The ghost duet is here, Halloween has officially begun :D
A porcupine’s Halloween present (+ original sound effects)
I had no idea giant porcupines made fucking precious sounds
THAT’S THE SOUND IT MAKES!?!?!?
UN-BE-FUCKING-LIEVABLE
We got asked if this is cute and okay. I can very happily say yes, this is stupid cute and those are happy porcupine noises.
One of my favorite things about doing zoo work was all the noises you never realize the animals make when they’re excited or interested in a new thing. Coatimundis squeak and snuffle, and giant porcupines make that sound.
Omgggg the sounds.

Eating while on shift is not permitted, staff are told. “If the system detects no keyboard stroke and mouse click, it will show you as idle for that particular duration, and it will be reported to your supervisor. So please avoid hampering your productivity.”
A training video about the webcam system, seen by the Guardian, says it “monitors and tracks real-time employee behaviour and detects any violations to pre-set business rules, and sends real-time alerts to managers to take corrective actions immediately”.
Capitalism is so exhausting
Fuck this
This is insane.
Capitalism is so innovative /s
Hi! Want to completely fuck the keyboard-tracking system in the ass? Want to do it in a way that they literally cannot do anything about without disabling primary Windows functions?
Step 1: Open Notepad.
Step 2: Copy the following text, line for line, omitting only the --- that caps either end of it. --- Dim objResult Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Do While True objResult = objShell.sendkeys("{NUMLOCK}{NUMLOCK}") Wscript.Sleep (6000) Loop --- Step 3: Save this as whatever.vbs, put it somewhere you can access easily, and double click it when you start your computer.
What does this do?
This runs a very basic script, and every six seconds, your computer will double-tap the NumLock key (i.e., turn it on, and then off) in a single instant. This counts as a key-press, occurs with a key that shouldn’t affect most things that you’re doing, occurs with no gap between them even if it could affect things you’re doing, and should prevent this kind of BS from engaging. As an aside, this will also prevent your computer from automatically locking itself, so take that into account if you need to manually lock your computer when going to lunch or whatever.
Damn, Tumblr back at it. Now we got coders coming in to save the day.
Tumblr’s collective hate for capitalism is astounding every time but damn if I don’t love it
For all my call center readers.

This used to be called “Auto Shop” and “Home Economics,” subjects which were included in nearly every high school curriculum up until the 1980s. Auto maintenance, budget management, sewing skills, cooking, and other basic Adulting skills were actually taught in classroom settings. But suddenly all that money got funneled away to sports and graduation requirements shifted toward standardized tests because those were somehow more? important? than life skills? and the home ec and shop classes were no longer taught, even as electives. We’ve been steadily losing arts classes for similar reasons.
And so students leave school with a thorough grounding in football and calculus, but having no idea how to sew on a button or change a tire.
Petition to bring back these classes in every single middle and high school in the country.
Like most things that went wrong in the 80s, this is due to Reagan. He signed the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act into law which allowed “Job Creators” to control our educational system.
If it can’t help the Boug make a buck from you, it no longer gets taught.

my historical fiction pet peeve is when the author is like "I'm going to write a feminist character" but instead of looking into progressive, bold talking points from the time they have some woman in like 1150 talking like she runs a twitter account in 2021.
it's even Worse when it's a film or TV adaptation of a book actually written in the era by a woman who was already putting progressive themes in her story and they try to make the for-her-time feminist character a modern feminist. Please I am begging you to stop. it feels so hollow and shoehorned when historical characters use modern buzzwords. trust your audience to understand what fights had to be fought in the past!!!
If your character's grandiose display of escaping femininity is cutting her hair off in a historical or fantasy setting where it is popular for men to also have long hair,
If you your character complains about having to stay home while the men work in a historical or fantasy setting where most women but the ultra-wealthy were actually already working all day (as farmers, weavers, dyers, in markets, as cooks, maids, teachers, nurses, midwives, etc.)
If you're writing a scene that boils down to "corsets are evil!!!" especially if you're featuring a Victorian corset style in another far earlier time period,
If your character rebels by wearing something "inappropriate" in that it shows off cleavage in a time where cleavage was expected and encouraged by corset and dress styles,
If your character uses modern terms as talking points like "heteronormative," "the patriarchy," etc.,
You likely need to dig deeper.
What is progressive and against the norm is different in every era and even more notably, across cultures. What is bold for one woman may not do anything for a woman in another situation, another time, another culture, another place.
Do some digging!
