The Burning Rose - Summary

A rascal, troublemaker, maybe even a lesser sociopath-those were nicknames commonly attributed to Mathiaz Rider. An uncontrolled sixteen-year-old brat, who grew up in an orphanage with nothing better to do than annoy the skin off his caretakers and supervisors.

Yet he was also a fearless dreamer with an unachievable goal. Before he could even spell out his name, he idolized the people on his TV screen referred to as ‘spiriters’. They were superhumans, capable of impossible feats which Mathiaz found 'cool’ and 'badass’. Of course, the little boy wanted to become like them when he grew up.

Then one day, despite nobody taking Mathiaz’s conviction seriously, the incredible happened. Mathiaz awakened spirit just like his heroes. He was immediately assigned to the New Baymort Spirit Academy in Holy Bay, with a newfound dream to not only join the famed 'Spirit Tournament’ but to become one of the strongest spiriters ever.

But Mathiaz is soon crushed by the harsh reality when he enrolls at the Academy. It turns out that not everyone shares his view of the spiriters. Prejudice, hostility, and corruption-that is the broken relationship between spiriters and the citizens of Holy Bay.

What happens when the young dreamer refuses to accept this? With his dream now appearing like mere fantasy, he decides to make it reality himself.

The question is: can he do it?
