I love how the more disturbing moments in Gravity Falls involve a twisted version of Dipper and his reflection. It really does speak of how the biggest fears one can have usually have to do with oneself. I don’t think Dipper’s the only one whose afraid of being frozen in place, to never grow as a person or strive to be something more. Or even worse, watching yourself become a twisted, distorted version of the person you used to be. To look into the mirror one day and realize you don’t recognize the stranger staring back at you.

I love the parallelism between these two scenes. Also, are we not gonna talk about the various hints pointing to Dip’s impending doom?

I mean it started w/ Bill’s messages in Rumbles Revenge, particularly, “What comes up must come down.” followed by “Dipper is playing with fire.” Then, we get the zombie episode where Dipper says it’s all his fault that they’re all in danger. That he was too curious and now they were all paying for it. Then the foreshadowing by that shapeshifter in the above gif. And I’m pretty sure there are more that I forgot. But anyway, geez dippy you in deep shit.

Kind of off topic, but I do have something to add.

If we presume that the Stan twin theory is true, then it can also be reasonable to say that there are parallels between the Stan twins and the Mystery twins. Unlike Dipper, Mabel and Stan’s relationship is consistently one of mutual adoration for each other while also learning from one another. On multiple occasions, Mabel has tried her best to help Stan while Stan’s con-man ways have rubbed off on Mabel. Stan and Mabel are the same and, considering that Stanley— or at least the author — is characterized to be as curious and intelligent as Dipper, Stanley and Dipper are also mirroring each other. Stanley reached his doom with the portal and one can only assume that Dipper will as well.

But here’s the thing: Stan is working to rebuild that portal and (again, we’re presuming the Stan theory is true) save Stanley. So if Dipper is doomed, Mabel is going to be the one to save him.

Even without the Stan twin theory, there is a lot of evidence of Mabel being the savoir. In “Head Hunters”, Mabel told Dipper that he was the sidekick, implying that she is the hero. Even when they faced Gideon and the shape-shifter, episodes in which Mabel is cited to be the immature one, she was the one who saved the day and most notably Dipper’s sorry butt. Most of the time when Mabel creates a problem, she plays a large role in fixing it. When Dipper creates a problem, he rarely solves it alone. Usually an outside force, typically Mabel, has to come in and help him.

I remember awhile ago seeing a post in which someone was discussing how impossible it would be for the twins to defeat Bill Cipher when he is in control of everything. One could even see Gideon’s fate (the prison and the burning Gideonbot) flash on Bill’s face when he made the deal. If Bill is all knowing, how can anyone hope to defeat him? My answer: be unpredictable. The random and weird Mabel is the only character that Bill has yet to truly out smart. In fact, she outsmarted him in “Sock Opera” when she used her knowledge of her brother against him.

TL;DR: Mabel Pines is a force of nature who will save Dipper from whatever damnation he gets himself in.

omg you have a good point (I mean, presuming that the twin theory is true). And even without the support of that theory, how many times has Mabel saved the day indeed (and let’s never forget her saving them both from being a spot on the ground in Gideon Rises).

The both times that Bill made an appearance, it was Mabel who (whether in vain or successfully) physically attacked Bill.

And. oh yeah, she was the one who pressed the button that ultimately destroyed puppet!Bill (and basically the rest of the puppet characters sans Mabel’s)

like damn girl. If anyone’s gonna survive the apocalypse, it’s bad-ass Mabel hands down.
