        Carl fixated his eyes forward, listening to the repetitive startling sound in the silence… His breath hitched for a moment as his eyes caught sight of what he thought was something to be frightened of, one of the dead, but no. ❝ It’s nothing, just a stupid tree branch. ❞

Meghan lowered her hands, relieved that it was only a "stupid tree branch".  "So, there's nothin' out there?"

        He stood slowly, looking back at the other momentarily with a finger pressed softly to his lips. He cocked the gun, as he rounded the corner, the small click of the metal hung as the only sound in the air for a moment.

She nodded at him, beginning to cover her ears to protect it from the sound of the gun. She watched with furrowed brows, waiting for whatever it was to die, again.
