I need everyone start responding to people who call criticism of zionism/Israel “antisemitism” by treating those people as antisemitic themselves. As Matt Lieb of Bad Hasbara fame explained very eloquently, calling anti-zionism antisemitism tacitly assigns genocide and apartheid as a Jewish value, which is antisemitic.

The thing is I don't like or care for Carol Danvers but equally when she is repeatedly getting disrespected, downplayed and mistreated in comics, I do think it's a genuine cause for concern in the broader context of how Marvel Comics and American society at large treats it's women. By and large she is a litmus test for this kind of thing unfortunately.
Like it's fully possible to have actually grounded, feminist criticisms for a character like Carol Danvers and the way she's been written. The whole wave of white BuzzFeed feminism her character flourished under in the 2010s is definitely deserving of and warrants criticism, particularly the way it downplayed and removed the story of Monica Rambeau, the Black woman who was Captain Marvel before her. It's good to criticise the way the military is often portrayed in various of her contemporary stories, either being as a blanket force for good which made her the strong leader she is today, or a complicated, often distressing but ultimately positive force on her life. It's good to criticise stuff like Rhodey dying to further Carol's story in Civil War 2, again disposing Black characters to further Carol's history.
But the majority of Marvel Comics writers are not intelligent enough to understand these criticisms and process them effectively, and it's clear that a lot of writers simply don't like her for XYZ reason. Most of the time it's just straight up misogyny, but a lot of it is also a company-wide apprehension to acknowledge any part of her character from before her Captain Marvel reboot beyond the Rogue bodyswap, because it's better to have the vague symbolism of having a strong significant female character than it is to have that character be complex and messy and traumatised. We will never again talk about Carol's rape, or her alcoholism, or her violence due to said alcoholism in a way that matters that isn't a brief "I used to struggle, but I'm better now" empty feelgood sentiment and I find it very hollow.
