“…”
Hanzo stared at the lady who was kind enough to stop and offer food to a random stranger. He felt a little embarrassed that he actually looked down enough to warrant attention, and it showed via a very light shade of pink tinting the sides of his cheeks.
“What kind of cookies?”
“Chocolate chip. I made them myself!”
She was quite proud, really- this was the first batch she’d made that had turned out just right. It was the butter that tripped her up: it was cow butter, not the Halla butter she was so fond of. Such a different taste...
“I’ve got quite a few left at home, so you really don’t need to feel bad about taking any.”
Ah, Naki- always speaking in words that she could never quite understand. Merrill felt like she got the gist of what he was trying to say, though she was half tempted to ask what kind of dance an ‘arctic tick’ was.
The idea of dancing with Naki was an interesting one to say the least. She knew neither of them were the most coordinated of people, not to mention her dancing skills weren’t exactly the best already. It was almost a certainty in her mind that they would make complete fools of themselves, but…
She just couldn’t say no. He totally had those puppy-dog eyes.
“I suppose I could.” With that, she cordially extended her hand. “Well, shall we?”
Naki was always confused, but the sentiments behind those words were always straightforward. He seemed to reach the point, even if the pathway there was chaotic. Just like now, where his hands somehow knew exactly where to end up on hers, and his other hand finding a place on her hip as he pulled her closer.
He pulled her into a light sweeping dance. Not the kind of dance he liked at all. He preferred when it went boom boom boom bada boom you know? Or maybe even shimmy shimmy shake shake. That was the kind of thought that went through his mind, but as Naki took the lead in the dance trying his best to concertate so much so it showed on his face when the corners of his lips pulled tight and his blocky teeth showed.
“This is fun isn’t it?” He said, smiling in a good natured way. “It’s something I never expected to do, but it’s fun.”
She followed his form the best she could, bare feet pacing across the cool stone floor. Naki’s movements seemed rather shaky, in a way, and she couldn’t help but think that he really didn’t know what he was doing. Clearly, though, he was trying his hardest, so she responded to his words with a kindly smile.
“Dancing is always nice, isn’t it?” the song washing over them from unseen speakers began to pick up in speed, and Merrill took the opportunity to try to lead Naki into something more akin to a waltz.
“I’ve never gotten to go to any fancy parties like this back home. Big balls were always reserved for the rich humans, you know?”
virassxn said: “As for myself, I absolutely refuse to go outside. I have dealt with enough bizarre things falling from the sky.”
“This is kind of like a really weird dream. Like, when you accidentally run into a demon who has a really strange sense of humor? Once I found myself in Denerim, where everything was normal except everyone had three arms and was this bright shade of pink. This kind of reminds me of that.”
“I spend a week in my house and when I come out it’s raining glitter and wax... What the hell did I miss?”

After arriving, Merrill had split from Muffet and headed in a different direction, wandering vaguely in the direction of food. She’d found the bar quite easily, and after helping herself to something called a ‘martini’, she took a seat on a nearby couch to watch the costumes go by.
Witch, dog, something with horns... So many people, so few she recognized. But soon, a familiar face came along- it was her, that mysterious girl who she’d only ever encountered in chaos.
She rose from her seat quickly, perhaps too quickly, but managed to catch herself before crashing into anyone. With her bearings intact, she straightened up, finding the girl eyeing her with surprise.
“Fancy meeting you here, hmm?” She said in what she hoped was a casual matter as she fixed her skirts. Man, did this costume have a lot of skirts.

“You still think I look fine in this... Really?”
Her anxiety was palpable as the two arrived at the site of the party, mansion seemingly overflowing with decorations onto the street before them. Music could be heard, muffled by the walls, but it was more of this ‘modern’ style that Merrill just didn’t quite understand.
It was less of the whole ‘going to a party’ thing that had her nervous, and more of the whole ‘this is a social tradition that I’ve never even heard of before two days ago’ thing. What if she messed something up? Missed some sort of joke or action that was obvious to everyone else?
So she practically clung to Muffet, grasping one of the woman’s right hands firmly.
“I think it seems a little boring, compared to what everyone else seems to be wearing...”
