One of the biggest problems with religion is that people stubbornly, insistently reduce God to their own size; they imagine that God loves the same people they love, and that God hates the people they hate. This is not just insidious theology; it’s actually idolatry, because people are just worshiping a blown up version of themselves. So let me say it simply: God’s love transcends all of that. When your parents reject you, God loves you; when your friends or classmates make fun of you, God loves you; when your priest, minister, imam, or rabbi tells you that you are an abomination, God loves you; when politicians cater to people’s basest prejudices, God loves you. No matter how many times and in how many ways people make you feel less than human, God knows otherwise, and God loves you. When you feel frightened, or abandoned, or humiliated, I hope the unshakeable conviction that God loves you can help hold you and enable you to persevere.

Happy Thanksgiving, a holiday that sugarcoats ethnic cleaning! Here’s an ongoing project that I’m working on called “Know History,” which overturns the tradition of absolving America’s leaders and presenting them as exemplary figures. Show these to your racist relatives, as well as your liberal ones, and remind them that America is rooted in white supremacy.
The problem is that white people see racism as conscious hate, when racism is bigger than that. Racism is a complex system of social and political levers and pulleys set up generations ago to continue working on the behalf of whites at other people’s expense, whether whites know/like it or not. Racism is an insidious cultural disease. It is so insidious that it doesn’t care if you are a white person who likes black people; it’s still going to find a way to infect how you deal with people who don’t look like you. Yes, racism looks like hate, but hate is just one manifestation. Privilege is another. Access is another. Ignorance is another. Apathy is another. And so on. So while I agree with people who say no one is born racist, it remains a powerful system that we’re immediately born into. It’s like being born into air: you take it in as soon as you breathe. It’s not a cold that you can get over. There is no anti-racist certification class. It’s a set of socioeconomic traps and cultural values that are fired up every time we interact with the world. It is a thing you have to keep scooping out of the boat of your life to keep from drowning in it. I know it’s hard work, but it’s the price you pay for owning everything.

But these white people have developed a set of beliefs that have led them to see a sort of strongman nationalist politics of ethnic exclusion as being perfectly acceptable, only two generations after their country fought a global war against that very thing. They see it as acceptable, even welcome, that a president-to-be has promised to ban all Muslims from entering the country (“temporarily”), to mass-deport millions of Latino American families who have been living in the United States for decades, to describe those immigrants as “rapists,” to question the citizenship and loyalty of minority Americans. These white voters, while they don’t consider themselves racist, do not see a problem with a president-elect whose only response to black Americans is to speak of violence and moral degradation. Or a commander-in-chief who has not seen fit to disavow the phalanx of white supremacists, neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan figures who have accompanied and cheered his campaign.

republicans: give trump a chance. we obstructed obama for 8 years. we blocked his jobs bills, blocked his infrastructure bills, voted to repeal obamacare over 50 times, fought gun control after sandy hook & the pulse nightclub shootings, gutted the voting rights act, passed new voter suppression laws, cut funding to daycare & food assistance programs, waged a war on women, fought marriage equality, courted the votes of neo-nazis, we elected a serial rapist who wants to put muslim american citizens in internment camps, and we’re still blocking a scotus nominee that was legitimately obama’s to pick. but don’t worry democrats, this time we’re gonna play fair & let you kick the football. honest :)
democrats: ok

the US is unreal like girls cant wear shorts to school, you can literally lose your job for being gay, and unarmed black children are brutally murdered on the regular but old white ppl r still like “what a beautiful country. i can freely carry a gun for no reason and some of our mountains look like presidents. god bless”
THIS IS LITERALLY IT. THIS IS WHAT ITS LIKE
Honestly, it’s irresponsible to treat Trump supporters in any way that suggests their actions and views are excusable. The ones you know, shame in both public and private. Shun them. Large-scale social enforcement works. Bigots’ going unrebuked is why we’re in this mess.
The deluge of desperate, whining pleas from so many Trump supporters circulating right now to not “bully” them, to extend them respect as though they didn’t just vote to strip it alongside actual, tangible rights away from masses of people, essentially to coddle their consciences and pretend their vote wasn’t a vote for injustice itself—this is evidence that enforcing accountability via social means WORKS, and plenty of these assholes are indeed afraid of it.
Could you specify what rights that Trump has threatened?
Yeah, sure.
“Sealioning is the name given to a specific, pervasive form of aggressive cluelessness, that masquerades as a sincere desire to understand.
A Sealion is a person who, when confronted with a fact that they don’t care to acknowledge, say, the persistence of systemic racism in America, will ask endlessly for ‘proof’ and insist that it is the other person’s job to stop everything they are doing and address the issue to their satisfaction.
Sealions are just ‘asking nicely’ but they are asking questions that have been asked and answered fully many times, and are unwilling to so much as open a tab to look up the answer, nor will they recognize the validity of your sources, your experience or expertise.”

Ya’ll are so worked up over Fidel Castro’s death, but as someone who lived under his dictatorship, I’m over here mumbling, “Meh.” I admire that he was able to oust and combat American imperialism, but he’s still an example of what happens when a rich boy reads some Marx, builds a movement, and is so corrupted by power that he outlaws all dissent. Stop idolizing a dictator, and expect more from revolutionary leaders. In addition: It’s possible to support Cuba’s revolution (as I do), denounce Castro’s reign (as I do), and recognize the role America has played in oppressing Cuban people and others worldwide (as I do). I’ve seen a lot of non-Cuban people prioritizing their ideologies and attempting to exonerate Castro by arguing that America is a greater Evil. Despite that being true in many ways, it doesn’t erase the suffering of a nation’s population at his hands, or their despair to escape. And if your love for communism + hero worship clouds your ability to acknowledge oppression and human suffering, I don’t see how you’re really any better than capitalists. In fact, one of the biggest failures of Castro’s revolution is that it’s caused Cubans to mistake capitalism for freedom.
This is a photo my friend posted of what their little brother wants for Christmas. And I love it, I want to help make this happen..
The people of Standing Rock Indian reservation have been protesting and fighting against the multi-billion dollar oil pipeline that would pass through four states. This pipeline would pass through both the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, and would be half a mile from the Standing Rock Indian reservation. This means that any possible oil spill could have devastating effects upon the local’s water supply. The residents are also worried that the pipeline might also destroy their sacred suit tribal sites.
The protesters have been gathering for about a year in hopes to preserve and save the land. And of course, police are involved. There has been a series of upsetting allegations, such as a woman’s arm being blown off, mass arrests, and even police armed with teargas and bean bag rounds to evict protesters which resulted in over 140 arrests. Though I understand some force had to be taken when a few protesters trespassed on private property, resisted arrest and refused to leave the site after being asked too, I also believe that these locals have the right to their freedom of speech and I understand them wanting to protect the land. But this isn’t about my thoughts. This is about helping the people of Standing Rock Indian reservations and a making a little kids Christmas wish comes true.
SOOOOO here are 10 ways we can help Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

If you’re on line to vote and stay in line, you are allowed to stay as long as it takes to get to the front of the line and vote. No one can turn you away from the polls if you got on line within polling hours.
