“Don’t waste it. Don’t waste your life.” ↳ MCU + growing up
this is my most old-man opinion but I think the internet really, really fucked up a lot of Gen Z kids
More than it fucked up us millennials?
Yeah, definitely. Millennials were born in the 80s and early 90s, most of us didn’t have unrestricted internet access as kids. Nor was the internet in those decades anything close to what it became by the mid-late 2000s and 2010s. There was basically no social media as it currently exists, and you had to go out of your way to find the really crazy shit, there weren’t algorithms pushing it on you. There were definitely weird places you could end up, and some people got sucked into message boards where online abuse was rampant, etc. but most of that happened when we were a bit older, and it was just different, and easier to get away from. Gen Z was the first to truly grow up online, and seems to be far more vulnerable, as a group, to conspiracy theories and radicalization (both toward the left and the right, or sometimes, both at the same time) and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
