@misschambers
Can I say something. I kinda love when batman fans talk about it like there's one definitive canon universe and we're all always talking about the same version of batman. Like no we're not but I'm obsessed with the implications
Jason Todd has fucking died in lego city
is he okay?
When DC took advantage of the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" blow-up-the-multiverse storyline to revamp Jason Todd's origin story from the original "basically a Dick Grayson Clone, right down to having a circus acrobat family who were murdered by criminals" premise to its modern "street urchin who got caught trying to steal tires off the Batmobile" concept, there were two separate ongoing Batman titles with separate writing staff: Batman and Detective Comics.
Though the events of both comics were meant to be contemporary with each other, the writers of the latter either didn't get the memo about Robin or simply refused to acknowledge the change, resulting in a period of several months where Detective Comics continued to publish stories about original flavour Jason Todd at the same time that Batman was publishing stories about the revamped Jason Todd.
DC's editorial staff eventually ordered them to knock it off, and the character of Robin stopped appearing in Detective Comics for nearly a year. When he returned, it with the revamped origin story established in Batman, and also his hair had changed colour; neither of these discrepancies were addressed in any way.
The upshot is that even without crossing mediums, and considering only comics which were published simultaneously with each other within what is ostensibly the same post-Crisis continuity, it's possible to construct a reading whereby Batman has had two completely separate Robins both named Jason Todd.
