Jane the Ghost — Bulawayo's Most Famous Urban Legend 👻
okay so Zimbabwe has a ghost story and it's genuinely one of the most haunting urban legends I've ever come across 🧵
her name was Jane.
in the late 80s and early 90s, she haunted the streets of Bulawayo — showing up at shebeens and nightclubs, impossibly beautiful, the kind of woman you couldn't ignore. she'd charm men. walk with them. lead them through the dark streets toward Number 6 Cemetery.
and then disappear. completely. into the graves.
the whole city knew her name. The Chronicle newspaper ran story after story. men were too embarrassed to admit they'd been played — by a ghost.
the darker version of the story? she was a woman who was murdered. and she came back. and she wasn't done.
a film was made. a book was written. and people in Bulawayo still talk about her like she never really left.
