You don't have to ask me if you want to write some kind of fic in this AU - just have fun. I definitely don't want to act like I 'own' this AU. I would love to be tagged if I inspire something you write, but don't feel the need to ask my permission if you wanna play with these ideas. I am also posting this so that when people are reading my 70s College AU fics, they can have a better idea of the broader ideas and settings at play. I have said that this starts in 1974 because the book was published in 1979 (which is what inspired me to make this a 70s based AU) and if they start in 74 and have 4 years of College, then they will finish in 78/79.
For my writing purposes, I am definitely imagining that the College is in Maine (as a reference to the movie, and because it’s interesting when you can have all four seasons in a location), but don’t ask me what the name of the College is. I like it being purposefully vague; this is definitely not based off a real place, and it's definitely not a College that exists in real life, because I hate being beholden to details of things that exist in real life when I’m writing. If I had to name it, I would make up the name.
(King State University is so cheesy but it’s kind of perfect… Or Bachman Community College? Especially if the buildings were named after other iconic characters like The White Building and The Torrance Building…)
Like I have covered in the fics already, all the boys live in a boarding house rather than a traditional college dorm. It's a building that used to be a frat house until the frat on campus moved into a bigger, nicer house.
The house was built in the 1920s so the wiring, plumbing, insulation, and general conditions are not the best. Among the boys, there are near constant debates about whether or not the house has rats, and whether or not they would count as pets. And often, those conversations stray into debates about whether or not Barkovitch should be allowed to get a cat in order to take care of those theoretical rats, and usually Barkovitch is quickly shut down when he brings that up. But the boys feel like the benefits of living there far outweigh the downsides.
Each of them have their own room - fairly sizeable rooms compared to the traditional dorms that are usually shared between two people. And they have a large living room and a kitchen, and their own TV. And they have a nice backyard, and a driveway. (“which would only matter if one of us had a car, dick!” - Hank was quick to point out when they moved in during freshman year.)
Pete was actually the first one to save up in order to buy a car, a 1975 Chevy Pontiac Bonneville in powder blue, so eventually he started parking in the driveway.
Shortly after that, Barkovitch came home with a disgustingly ratty old van - one of those vans with a very detailed airbrushed painting on the side (his is a Pegasus holding a snake in its mouth and shooting lasers out of its eyes), and everyone absolutely hates his sputtering old gross van, but he loves it to death and he refuses it to give it up. And to his credit, he has actively learned how to fix it up in order to make it better. But the smell in that old shag carpet... it is kind of unforgivable. And the way people stare when he drives it around...
They have plenty of space to throw parties, and their neighbours aren’t close enough on either side to complain about the noise when they do, so of course, they quickly become the party house on campus. (Especially for people who aren't looking for all the bullshit that comes with joining a frat, and just want a casual fun time.)
Their place also has an advantage over being in the dorms because people can come and go as they please without any greater supervision breathing down their necks - they were supposed to have a senior student RA living with them to prevent shenanigans from a house full of freshman, but due to a paperwork error, they did not get one.
So they were assigned Stebbins to the last empty room under the idea that him being The Major’s son would keep them out of trouble; the thought that Stebbins would keep them all in line and 'narc on them' when needed. It did not work. This basically devolved into the corruption of Stebbins, with him looking for friendship and wanting to fit in - and they are all very proud of this.
The boys all moved in together as freshmen, and they became good friends and lived together for all four years of college.
In some versions, I say that Pete and Ray got their own apartment off campus during their second or third year of college. Maybe this is when they officially got into a relationship and wanted some space as a couple… but they didn’t spend any less time hanging out with the guys. They just wanted to live together on their own, and this is only the case in some fics, and it's an idea that is very flexible.
This also leaves room for the entrance of Rank and Curley. This could be when Rank and Curley moved in to the extra empty two rooms as freshman - I am imagining that they are a year or two years younger than the rest of the guys, and moving in as younger freshman when the rest of the guys are partway through their college experience.
Which Barkovitch was not happy about at first, loudly protesting about how ‘the new kid’ had a room right next to his, forcing Harkness to uproot - because he’s one of the push-overs of the group - in order to keep the peace. This did start a brief tension between Barkovitch and Rank that caused a lot of petty bitching, but eventually they solved it. Especially when Rank was one of the people who voted that Barkovitch should finally be allowed to keep one of the stray cats he brought home, that vote finally flipping in his favour now that Ray and Pete had moved out.
Also, random sidenote - Barkovitch is constantly trying to bring home stray cats. Especially while drunk. Ray is always the one who has to 'break it to him gently' that the cats are not allowed to stay, and because of this, the local animal shelter now knows them by name. He always gives them names, usually after singers and celebrities.
Cher #4 was the one who stayed the longest, because Ray was home with his mom for the weekend and nobody knew that Barkovitch was hiding another cat in his room until Ray came back and found her. One time Barkovitch brought home a raccoon while drunk and when Harkness woke up and found it in their kitchen, he screamed so loudly that he woke literally everyone up. Now it is literally someone's job to be on 'cat patrol' to make sure Barkovitch doesn't bring home or let in stray animals when they have a party or go to a bar.
One time when they went on a roadtrip, someone pulled off on the side of the road to pee and he got out of the van and tried to pet a grizzly bear cub, and he almost took one. It resulted in a lot of screaming and arguing as they pulled away, and him arguing back about how it 'wasn't that big of a deal'. (This is actually inspired by something that happened to me...)
For reference, this is the arrangement of rooms up (until Pete and Ray move out, if they move out): there is three floors above the main floor, and that first main floor consists of the the kitchen, living room, dining room, and a small bathroom.
Up the first flight of stairs, on the second floor (the first floor with bedrooms) there is Pete, Stebbins, and Harkness - Pete and Stebbins share a wall and Harkness is on the other side across the hall, beside the biggest and nicest bathroom in the house. Up the next flight of stairs, on the third floor there is Ray and Barkovitch (they share a wall), and Parker, and another smaller bathroom. And up on the top floor (with slightly smaller rooms near the attic) - Baker and Olson.
A lot of people have said that it doesn’t make sense for Baker to have one of the smaller rooms as one of the tallest guys, and Harkness offered to switch with him plenty of times, but he has said that he prefers the peace and quiet (especially if the guys are being rowdy in the living room, his room is a world away and he can actually get some sleep - because he likes to go to bed early whenever he can). That and Hank is his best friend, so he likes being right beside him.
There is an old greenhouse in the backyard. One of the windows is busted out, and originally it was ‘an old pile of junk’ that the boys were tasked with breaking down and hauling away if they wanted it gone, but they soon embraced it. Barkovitch bought a weed plant and he’s been growing strains in there since the first few weeks of freshman year (at first, slinking around and hiding it from everyone - until he found out that they were down), and it soon became the first thing that he and Art bonded over, because Art loves cultivating and caring for plants, and he started growing some pots of vegetables in the greenhouse as well.
They care for the pot plants as though they are babies, and even give them names, and when the harvest comes, they are the most popular house on campus. Barkovitch originally claimed that he was going to sell the weed, but he usually ends up giving most of it away.
Art, Hank, and Harkness are part of a campus environmental group called Young Green Warriors (usually they are referred to as Greenies by themselves or others). Art joined because he wants to keep God’s earth ‘as green and beautiful as he made it’, Hank joined because hates litterbugs and ‘assholes who don’t clean up after themselves’, and Harkness joined because he is very well informed on the politics of environmental issues, and when asked, he will go on rants about oil spills and large companies who don’t clean up after themselves and illegally dump chemicals.
Pete ends up joining later on after finding it very compelling when they talk about it, wanting to provide compassion for mother earth and make the world cleaner and better for the all people who live there (and even the guys who aren’t technically in the group get drawn into doing stuff for Greenies - like signing petitions and putting up flyers around campus, and going to protests to be supportive).
The group has done some pretty revolutionary things for the time - they have gotten a recycling program standard on campus with lots of recycling bins around the campus, they have installed a textbook recycling program where people can return their old textbooks for an incentive and then those textbooks can become part of the library or be resold for cheap, especially considering that a lot of professors reuse the same syllabus year after year.
Surprisingly, for a college house full of boys, there are a lot of home cooked meals on offer. Pete cooks a lot, and he's incredibly talented and skilled in the kitchen, and he gets upset when others come into ‘his kitchen’, and he is most often the one feeding the boys and forcing them together for a home cooked meal. Though some of the other boys do cook too.
Ray could set water on fire, and the same goes for Harkness, and some of the others like Barkovitch and Stebbins have a moderate understanding of cooking and can make decent food in order to survive. (Something nobody knew about Barkovitch is that he’s actually an amazing baker because he grew up baking with his Meemaw, and when they find out that he makes the literal best cakes and cookies on earth, he is called on for every single birthday and special day for the rest of their time living together - it was a talent he hid for a long time for fear of being made fun of, but now he's just annoyed that always nag him to make treats.)
Baker and Parker are amazing cooks but they don’t typically fight Pete for the kitchen, and Olson is one of the best cooks in the house because his mother is a really good cook and taught him a lot of traditional Chinese recipes while growing up. It's something he holds precious because food is one of the only ways he has been able to stay connected to his roots. But he doesn't cook often for the boys because when he takes over the kitchen, he's so fucking annoying about it.
(This is an obscure reference, but if you have seen Malcolm in the Middle, how Reese was in that one Thanksgiving episode - that’s Hank when he cooks for them.)
He will takeover the entire kitchen, demand help from the others and then yell at them for not doing it right, and the types of food he likes to cook take days of preparation and he is stressed out and naggy the whole time. But when he finally serves a meal, everyone thanks him for it and immediately forgets why they were so annoyed and mad at him because it tastes so fucking good. (But still, he’s only allowed in the kitchen once every six months, maybe, because he's so insufferable when he's in the process of cooking.)
One time Hank made them a peking duck and he had a whole duck with the head on left hanging in the fridge overnight and when Art saw it, he started crying, and everyone tried to make Hank apologize to Art (“what? It’s not my fault Mr. Duck is fuckin’ delicious!”). It was one of the first real fights that Hank and Art had, and Hank only made it up to him when he made a round of vegetarian dumplings from scratch that nobody else was allowed to eat.

Headcanons for Each Character
Ray Garraty - The Art History Nerd
What is he studying?
He’s studying Art History in order to become a museum curator. He wants to preserve important art and history and culture and pass it on to future generations. He has a minor in Philosophy.
What clubs and activities does he do?
He’s not much of a man for organized activities - he helps out with Greenies while not being an official member.
Later during his college experience, he joins a Poetry Club to try and get in touch with the artistic side of himself (and he will deny that it was to try and impress Pete). He gets relentlessly mocked when the other guys find out about the poetry club thing, but of course, Pete finds it cute and is eager to read some of Ray's poems. He spends most of his free time studying - mandatory material or material that interests him, or spends time socializing and partying.
What is his clothing style?
He wears a lot of sweater vests, cozy sweaters, button ups - he’s not into being stylish, he will just wear whatever covers him. He doesn’t think that he’s meant to look good, so he doesn’t have a specific curated style.
It could be jeans and tee shirts or flannels, and he’s one of the only guys who is genuinely prepared for the cold weather when it hits. The only thing he is sure to be wearing is a silver chain necklace that was gifted to him by his father shortly before his father passed on his fifteen birthday - a chain that his father used to wear all the time. Not many know the significance of it, but he almost never takes it off.
What’s his background?
His father died in a car accident when he was fifteen, and it’s been just Ray and his mother since then. He hesitated to leave her in order to go to college, but she assured him that it was the right thing to do, especially because he would only be living two hours away.
From a very young age, his father inspired him with a love for art and history by taking him to museums and showing him documentaries, and so of course, he chose his major and future career to honour his father. Some might consider Ray a bit of an art history snob, but whenever he corrects someone in conversation or spouts off obscure facts, he’s doing it out of a love for his father, one that few people would understand.
What are his relationships in the house?
(They are all close as a group, but this is a discussion of those closer personal relationships.)
Ray and Pete are close, of course. They are close in any world, in any universe. Even if it’s a set up for a fic where one of them dates another character, I cannot say that they’re not at least somewhat romantic, because their chemistry is just that strong. Everyone would easily label as best friends, and even if people don’t know that they are having sex and/or dating, they are together almost all of the time, and that much is obvious to everyone. The phrase ‘Pete and Ray’ just becomes common vernacular in the house, and it seems weird to see one of them without the other close behind.
Ray and Barkovitch are surprisingly close. Ray was one of the only people who would take the room beside Barkovitch’s - Barkovitch got off on the wrong foot on the first day, and of course, it was the wrong impression of him. But that first day left a sour taste in people’s mouths, and being the peacekeeper that Ray naturally is, he volunteered to take that room beside the person that everyone basically wanted to vote off the island. Barkovitch jumped on this olive branch extended out to him and he eagerly reached out to Ray for friendship, and during those first few weeks of school, the two became intensely close. They are now the type to waltz into each other’s rooms uninvited and stay up all night talking, and Ray is one of the people who is always on call to help Barkovitch with his homework when needed. Ray is the one who started calling him ‘Barko’ (because literally nobody - nobody - called him Gary) and the nickname stuck.

Pete McVries - The Musical Chef
What is he studying?
He is studying musical engineering and music history, and he came to college in hopes of getting a job scoring films someday. But early into his college experience, he gets a job at a restaurant and he realizes that his true passion is food. Music and food are incredibly similar - they both have a lot of working elements that tell a story to one of the senses, and Pete has a passion for telling that story and making people happy. His new dream is working at a restaurant and learning enough skills and saving up enough money until he can open up his own restaurant one day.
No, he doesn't switch up to get a degree in culinary - he still wants to follow through with his music degree, but he definitely wants a career as a chef.
What clubs and activities does he do?
He started out helping out with Greenies without being an official member and joined officially later on, and between studying and holding down a job, he doesn’t have time for much else. He likes to use that free time to spend with friends.
What is his clothing style?
Pete has two modes - he is either very casual in a tee shirt and jeans, wearing clothes that can get dirty and worn down so he can do rough activities without caring about ruining his clothes, or he cleans up real nice.
He learned early on in life the value of saving up for pillar pieces of clothing in one’s wardrobe (and the value of bargain hunting), so when it’s time to dress up nicer for something like a date, he puts a lot of effort into his appearance. He has nice, shined up shoes, a nice velvet blazer. He is one of the only guys in the house who actually knows how to use the iron. But other than that, he doesn’t care if his shirts get random little holes in them or if his jeans get grass stains on them - he knows that life happens to clothing, and that’s just how it is.
What’s his background?
Pete never had a real family. He was lost to the system at a young age and never knew anybody blood related to him. He bounced around foster homes and then group homes as he grew older, never staying anywhere long enough to make friends or put down roots. Maybe it was why he became so unconsciously attached to food. He never had any family recipes or home cooked meals, and there were a lot of times when he went hungry. But when he could learn to cook, he felt it connected him to something bigger. He could taste something that he had made, know that it was made with love, and know that even if he had grown up without that, he could feed that kind of love to other people and create something that had never been given to him.
When he was seventeen and on the verge of aging out of the system, he had a high school music teacher who saw potential in him and convinced him to submit an application for a scholarship. He thought he wouldn’t get to go to college, but a piano piece that he composed from scratch was impressive enough to get him a full ride to somewhere he would have never chosen to be - isolated, frozen Maine at a college that wasn’t at all prestigious or well known. A place where he found family for the first time in his life.
What are his relationships in the house?
We have discussed Pete and Ray - they are always going to be a guaranteed.
Let’s talk about Pete and Art. I feel like their relationship and their closeness is so underrated, and they would be really close in this house. Art has a huge family that he is very close to, and he was incredibly homesick during his first few weeks at college, so one of the things that Pete did to help Art was learn some Creole Louisiana recipes and cooked them for Art. It was one of Pete’s first serious forays into cooking that didn’t just involve preparing small meals for himself in order to survive. This was the first true spark that ignited his passion for cooking, especially when he saw the look on Art’s face when he walked into the house and smelled the distinct scent of gumbo cooking on the stove. Those spices, that warmth - it got right to Art’s heart, and even though it wasn’t exactly the way his grandmother would have made it, Art started calling it ‘McVries style gumbo’, and he would then ask for Pete to cook for him on a regular basis. And he would practically lick the bowl every single time, licking up that taste of home and feeling warm and full - not just because of the food, but because he got the true bonds of family, even so far away from where his big family was.

Billy Stebbins - The (Secretly) Emotional Wreck
What is he studying?
(He is harder to nail down for me. I have seen some people saying that he would be pre-med, and I feel like that could be interesting - I actually know how to tie that into his backstory in an interesting way.)
Stebbins is Pre-Med, studying to become a family pediatrician, wanting to catch potentially harmful diseases early and wanting to help young children be happy and well.
What clubs and activities does he do?
He is in ROTC - Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, which is a college program designed to train people and prepare them for the military.
In this AU, his father, known on campus as The Major (which was his position when he served in the military, and he is still widely referred to by that title) is the one who runs the ROTC program, and he also teaches a class called American History, which is very clearly biased toward America and very pro-colonization.
Billy actually came to this college specifically to be close to his father, and he sometimes neglects his studies trying to excel in the ROTC program specifically trying to impress his father. As well as doing physical training, the ROTC also does volunteer work and community outreach, and often that is Billy’s favourite part. He will never admit it to any of the boys, but cooking and serving hot meals to those in need and spending hours sorting clothing donations for the homeless is one of his mental reprieves in life. (Sometimes his father will ‘punish’ him with these menial tasks that other boys in the program hate doing, and he keeps it a close secret that he loves doing these things so that way he can take advantage of these ‘punishments’.)
What is his clothing style?
He doesn’t really have a distinct personal style either. Most of the time he can be seen wearing his ROTC uniform (either in full, or in bits and pieces), or workout clothing. Most of his wardrobe is athletic clothing. Or he can be seen wearing scrubs when he has to do practical work with cadavers for his degree. But he doesn’t own much ‘nice’ clothing, and he was actually scolded by his father when he said that he didn’t have a suit for a nice ceremonial dinner that the ROTC boys had to attend, and he had to panic buy one.
What’s his background?
He was a happy child. He grew up in suburbia, and though it was just him and his mom, he couldn’t have imagined a better family. His mom worked two jobs to make sure that he had the best of everything and he spent a lot of time with family friends when he wasn’t at school, but his greatest memories were days when his mom wasn’t working. She turned everything into an adventure - doing the laundry would turn into making a fort out of freshly cleaned sheets, cooking dinner would turn into a full blown cooking class and playing restaurant. They would spend Sundays going to yard sales to find treasures, she helped him build a backyard fort out of old wood - because she was good with tools and would give him anything he wanted. Billy never missed his father. Even though he knew everyone else in the neighbourhood had one, he knew that his mother was more than enough for two parents.
His mother was diagnosed with lung cancer when he was eight years old. Life went from fun adventures to hospitals and beeping machines and coughing. He barely understood what the word meant at the time, but soon, it metastasized onto her brain, and during her last days, she couldn’t even remember her own son’s name. She was gone by his tenth birthday, and soon, a man he didn’t even know was taking him away, claiming to be his father.
Then life became all about manhood. He was training, put into sports that would ‘turn him into a real man’. He was constantly told he wasn’t good enough. His mother’s voice - a voice that always told him to smile, told him to find the fun in everything, told him he was a good boy, the light of her life - soon faded. Died off completely in his mind. It was replaced by that haunting coughing (the one that made him terrified whenever he even got a cold) and the voice of his father - a voice that told him he was a stain on the world, he would never be good enough, he was a bastard who was never meant to be born. Billy Stebbins went from a happy child to a cold, jaded young man by the time he was eighteen, and even though he wanted to become a doctor to honor his mother, he felt like he could barely remember the warmth of the woman he was honoring.
For him, life now felt like an endless loop of chasing perfection he would never achieve, becoming disappointed in himself when he didn’t find it, punishing himself, and then getting up and starting all over again. But that’s what everyone feels like, right?
What are his relationships in the house?
Okay so… he’s not close with anyone. At least not at first.
Like I said, when he is put into the house, he is first known as ‘the narc’. They think he’s there to spy on them and stop their fun, and there is a string of incidents that slowly make him closer with the other guys. The first incident is him finding weed in Ray’s room, and rather than ratting on him, he asks if he can try some, and the first time he smokes with Pete and Ray, he is giggly and happy and they are both shocked that he’s actually such a chill guy. It's probably the first time either of them have seen him relaxed, or even sitting down in a slightly relaxed position.
The second incident is the first time he gets drunk around them. There are many months and many parties that have passed when he has never touched a drink, and the first time he gets drunk around them is after a particularly bad day with his father. After a string of name calling from his father, he comes in and grabs the first bottle he sees (from a collection that has been set out for a party that has not even started yet) and they are all shocked when he downs half a bottle of vodka before the party even starts, and Ray (being the peacekeeping guy that he is) decides that it’s his turn to be the sober caretaker. He ends up sitting beside the toilet with Stebbins when he inevitably pukes his guts up, wiping his head with a cold cloth and forcing him to drink water. A couple of the other guys (Hank and Pete, from what Ray can gather) are outside the bathroom, drunkenly calling Ray ‘mommy’ because he volunteered to take care of Stebbins. Between heaving recoils, Stebbins says “I had a mom once” in the saddest tone that Ray has ever heard, and Ray doesn’t ask, and Stebbins doesn't say anything further. But he does keep a closer eye on Stebbins after that day.
The final incident is a big one. Stebbins was having a bad week - it was coming up on finals, he was trying to balance studying, practicing the drills his father wanted, and of course, the first thing he neglected was sleeping and eating. He was already a thin guy, but Ray and Pete noticed that he was going from fit to emaciated and when they brought it up, they were promptly met with a ‘fuck off’ as Stebbins ran out the door to another exam. When he tripped during a drill (his vision half blacking out from personal neglect), his father punished him ten times harder than he would have anyone else, leaving him to stand in the rain in place for hours while holding a rifle over his head. He thought he was going strong and doing well when he collapsed. The Major left him in the mud without a second thought, and when Billy didn’t come home that night, Ray rallied everyone up out of bed to form a search party - everyone was grumbling and angry at being woken for Ray’s ‘mother hen’ worries, but when Harkness found Stebbins in the middle of that field, barely conscious, sick, shaking, still clutching onto the rifle, nobody spoke a single cross word toward Ray.
The boys argued in hush voices while sitting in the ER waiting room, waiting to hear about Billy’s condition, deciding what to do, and after much debate, it was decided - they filed a formal complaint against The Major. The first one that came up against him during his twenty years at the school. Nothing came of it - the college didn’t bestow any consequences onto him when The Major said that Billy was out there of his own volition, simply ‘training too hard’. Nothing came of it, except for The Major coming by their house and demanding to know who had made the complaint - only to be met with an ‘I’m Sparticus’ stand off where they all stared at him silently and Ray even told him to fuck off to his face. And Billy quit ROTC shortly after, deciding to pursue volunteer work in his free time and focus more on his premed degree to truly honour his mother, knowing that he didn’t need his father’s validation now that he had a true family at home that was willing to step up and back him so much.

Gary Barkovitch - The Photographer
What is he studying?
He is studying veterinary science and zoology. Most people don’t know this about him, but he has always related more to animals, and ever since he was young, when he rescued a small wolf pup from someone’s rabbit snare and nursed it back to health, thinking that it was a common dog. It was his first pet, and his first friend. Only to have his father find out and shoot it right in front of him, calling it ‘dangerous’, saying that it didn’t deserve to live. It was an experience that marked him so deeply. Since then, he sought to better understand animals, especially ‘dangerous’ ones, and how to care for them. Animals can’t communicate their pain - they need someone to speak for them and to understand them on their level in order to care for them, and that is what he wants to do. (Sometimes he worries that he might be too stupid to pass all the science classes that he needs to in order to get the degree, because he doesn't always make the best grades, but he is always trying his best. And like his friends have said - he does a lot better when he doesn’t stress himself out.)
What clubs and activities does he do?
He’s not much for organized activities - when he does photography, it’s for fun, and it’s for himself. Harkness has suckered him into working for the campus newspaper on occasion, but he doesn’t get regular assignments, because he would find it too stressful and that stress would make photography un-fun for him.
When one of the boys saw how passionate he is about his weed plants, they recommended that he join a gardening club, and he laughed in their face. He thinks that turning anything into a club makes it lame and stressful.
What is his clothing style?
Again, he’s someone who doesn’t really have a distinct clothing style, he just wears what works. He didn’t have much growing up, so a lot of his clothes are secondhand, fixed up, maybe have holes in them. But he also doesn’t always think to be self conscious of these things - he doesn’t think that life is a fashion show. And when he gets money, he’s more likely to spend it on film for his camera, good snacks, or booze for the weekend. He’s a casual person and he doesn’t truly care about how he looks.
What’s his background?
(This one is gonna be rough, so strap in. And we didn’t have much to work with from the canon, so this is all from my brain. Sorry Barko.)
His father was a military man, and he grew up in DC. Not many people know about the early years of Barkovitch’s life. He went through what many would describe as hell. His father was blatantly abusive and his mother was too drunk to care. Barkovitch grew up with the idea that he was a waste of space, a mistake, a scrawny horrible little boy who wasn’t worthy of growing up to become a man. When his father was around, he was beaten and called names and punished in every way imaginable for everything from looking at his father the wrong way to uttering a slightly wrong response. When his father wasn’t around, he was neglected and ignored and left to his own devices, living as a ghost in his own house.
When he had just barely turned twelve, he missed a few too many days of school during one of his adventures off in the woods behind his house (during a time when his father was physically absent and his mother was mentally absent and he was glad that neither of them noticed him gone), and a truancy officer showing up to their place was the thread that tore everything apart.
Shortly after, he was torn out of that life and sent to live with his grandmother in Kentucky - his Meemaw on his mother’s side that he had never met. She embraced him with tender arms, having only heard secondhand from social workers what he had gone through, and though at first it was like a skittish animal being caught in a net, he learned to embrace her love in return. She was someone older with a lot of family who rarely visited, and he was someone who never knew what love or family was. He learned to bake, to knit, he started enjoying an evening routine of eating pie and watching Jeopardy.
His friends often joke that he’s the oldest eighteen year old they’ve ever met, with the kind of phrases he uses and the body language he sometimes has, and the habit of going to bed at seven in the evening (that he was broken out of by all their late night partying), but he never regretted it, because he loves his Meemaw so much. And the boys have learned to love her too. She rarely travels, but she tries to make it down to the dorm at least once during a semester, and she cleans the house and makes them a huge meal and pokes Barkovitch and calls him too skinny - and the boys know that when they see Meemaw’s old Volks Wagen Beetle in the driveway, they are in for fresh laundry and a good, filling meal. (As well as some cheek pinching and invasive comments about which girls they are dating - but hey, give and take.)
She always leaves with “you take care of my boy, alright?” and she never gets out the door until she hears a round of promises from the other boys that her grandson is being well taken care of.
What are his relationships in the house?
We have already discussed that he is very close with Ray. Maybe it’s because Ray saw that skittish animal in him and embraced it, but now they are besties. Also, Ray is one of the only people in the house who actually knows about Barkovitch’s super secret backstory because during one of their many late night conversations, he actually felt comfortable enough to disclose some of the things that happened to him, and Ray sat back in horror and listened. Nobody understands why Ray is softer with Barkovitch, and Ray knows it’s not his story to tell, but Ray and Meemaw have a special understanding, and Ray keeps a special eye on him.
Also, Barkovitch becomes surprisingly close with Art - the first impressions between them are not good, but they learn that they have a lot in common. They both love animals, they both enjoy caring for plants (to a certain extent), they both enjoy nature. Art really comes to appreciate Barkovitch’s nature photography and even frames some of them to keep in his room. But they do have their conflicts - Barkovitch was often forced by his Meemaw to go to church, but he thinks religion is a huge joke, and there was a major conflict between them when he said “if God was real, then life wouldn’t be the way it is. Life wouldn’t be so fucked up.” Barkovitch was thinking of all the things that God ‘allowed’ to happen to him in his past, reconciling that by thinking that God must not be real because some greater, wise being couldn’t allow those things to happen, and of course, calling out Art’s religion to his face sparked a huge fight and then a wall of silence that lasted for more than a week. Art keeps trying to convert Barkovitch to vegetarianism, but he has hunted and butchered animals before, and he believes that you can love animals and still eat them too. It always comes back to “animals eat other animals too!” before Barkovitch stuffs his face with more pork rindes.
Barkovitch is also pretty good friends with Harkness. Harkness was surprised to see how skillful Barkovitch is with a camera (his grandfather’s old camera that he found in Meemaw’s basement shortly after he moved in and taught himself to use), and he has been nagging Barkovitch to officially join the campus newspaper for many months. But ultimately, he has learned that Barkovitch works best without the pressure. He works on assignments that interest him with an extended timeline, and Harkness calls him in when he needs something truly artistic and beautiful to catch the reader’s eyes. They have bonded while working on certain assignments, and Harkness loves the insight that Barkovitch can bring.
Bonus:
When Rank moves in, he becomes the Robin to his Batman. Rank is the younger guy who wants to emanate everything that Barkovitch does, and Barkovitch doesn’t get it at all. He follows Barkovitch everywhere, shows up wherever Barkovitch is, and at first it spooks Barkovitch and he has no clue what’s happening or why, but then he embraces having ‘a minion’, and everyone thinks he’s taking advantage of Rank. But he’s not - he’s vibing with having a little brother figure for the first time in his life.

Hank Olson - The Young Green Warrior
What is he studying?
(I had a bit of a time with this one, but then it struck me like a lighting bolt.)
He is incredibly passionate about the environment, so he is studying ecology and politics in hopes of becoming a politician someday so that he can install greener policies in office. When he was fifteen, he accidentally discovered a bunch of files that showed that his step father’s company has terrible ecological practices - including the unlawful and unsafe disposal of harsh chemicals, and they are generally a large polluter, and when he called out his step father about it, he was basically laughed out. And he even found out that his step father pays off politicians in order to be allowed to do this. So this sparked an intense passion in him about the environment and making the world greener, even if only to get back at one single asshole in his life.
He also has a minor in literature because he is a huge book nerd, especially when it comes to comic books, and he generally loves storytelling and pop culture.
What clubs and activities does he do?
Like I said, he is part of a club called Young Green Warriors that rally for better environmental practices on campus, help distribute information to try and teach people about environmental issues and try to get them to employ better, greener practices, and they spread information and rally for larger environmental causes as well. By his Junior year, Hank is the leader of the group, and he is someone who is loud and proud about his opinions, so he doesn’t hesitate to hold protests and chase people down to sign petitions when needed.
He also loves cooking. Cooking Chinese food is one of the only ways he has been able to stay in touch with his roots while living in America, especially with his step father basically banning every celebration of his culture in their household, he has been able to embrace that culture more since moving away from home and he loves doing it through the practice of food.
What is his clothing style?
Growing up, his step-father mandated that he wear ‘nice’ things instead of ‘dressing like a slob’, and he grew to hate wearing suffocating suits and itchy button-ups. Especially because he went to private schools his whole life that had hyper specific uniforms - he is now obsessed with casual, comfortable clothing. Especially if it’s the kind of clothing that his step father would hate.
He loves graphic shirts. He has 100 graphic shirts and he will have more. Winter time? Graphic sweatshirts. Jeans and a graphic sweatshirt. Corduroy pants and a graphic tee shirt. Fancy occasion? Blazer over a graphic tee shirt. He is absolutely that guy who owns a tee shirt with a tuxedo printed on it and thinks that it’s fancy. He has shirts with band logos printed on them, comic book characters on them, album covers, movie posters. Sometimes he wears shirts with graphics on them that he has no clue what they are because he bought them secondhand and he just likes the logos. He also has a bunch of shirts with lame phrases on them. He absolutely has a shirt that says “I shaved my balls for this?” and one that says “Virginia is for Lovers” (he has never been to Virginia). Always a graphic shirt.

What’s his background?
He was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts - his parents immigrated there from China just before he was born. His parents had one of the first and most popular Chinese restaurants in Boston, and they were amazingly successful during those first few years. Hank has spotty memories of the restaurant - but he remembers it smelling like happiness, and he tries to remember his real father’s smile. (Maybe that’s why the food is so important to him - because when he makes the food right and gets a taste of it, it brings him back there. And sometimes his roommates, his new family smiling at him while they eat his food can give him a glimpse into that feeling.) That happiness ended soon when his father was working alone late one night and a robbery turned wrong, and his father was shot and killed.
Soon after, Hank’s mother was romanced by a rich white businessman named Lionel Olson who clearly saw her as nothing more than a beautiful prize, and she rushed to marry him, seeking stability for her and her son - a non white child that he clearly didn’t care for and didn’t want. Hank became a ghost in a huge, overly decorated house on the nicer side of town, forced into a fancy private catholic school where everyone made fun of his thick accent, and then forced into speech lessons that were supposed to force that accent out of him. There are still traces of it, and it’s something he’s still incredibly self conscious of, especially when it’s clearly thicker when he’s tired or drunk.
His step father forced them both to take his last name, banned him and his mother from speaking Mandarin in the house, banned them from making and eating traditional Chinese food (after he forced Hank’s mother to close the restaurant), and wouldn’t let them celebrate any traditional Chinese holidays, effectively erasing Hank’s identity all throughout his life in exchange for financial security and a big house.
Though he had some friends, he’s never been truly close with anybody because he never got past those barriers of judgement - being the only Asian kid in fancy white schools meant that he always felt like an outsider, and he was never truly accepted or close with anybody. He never really had the feeling of having a real friend group. His step father only agreed to pay for college if he was going to do something ‘worthwhile’ like become a doctor or a lawyer, and Hank basically laughed in his face about it. So he picked a school far away, and he struck out on his own.
Maybe he would finally get to have that feeling, to try and forge a true friend group, to find family for the first time in so long.
What are his relationships in the house?
Him and Art are the definition of “if I’m not with my special guy, I’m gonna cry and scream and throw up.” They are always together. They grew close on the first day because Hank’s mother showed solidarity with his step-father and didn’t come to say goodbye to him at college, so he ended up moving in alone. Art was the only other person there on that first move-in day, and as soon as Art and his grandmother saw Hank struggling to get his heavy boxes up the stairs by himself (dropped off out of a truck by a moving service that his mother would deny that she had paid for), they stepped in. Art’s grandmother fawned over him and called him too skinny, and made them both a big dinner before she had to leave, and it was only natural for Art to take the room beside Hank’s, even though it was almost too awkwardly tall for the attic slope on the top floor.
They spent the night eating cookies that Art’s grandmother had packed for him and unpacking their stuff together, talking and getting to know each other, and by the time the other guys started to arrive the next day, a clear, close bond had already been established.

Art Baker - The Future Astronaut
What is he studying?
He is studying engineering and mathematics in order to become an astronaut. He has a very simple, very specific dream - he wants to be the first black man on the moon. The moon landing aired on TV during his childhood and had a very profound effect on him, and his room in the house is covered in space and NASA posters, and he has model rockets that he personally has built, and he is incredibly knowledgable about all past space missions, including unmanned ones.
What clubs and activities does he do?
He is also a part of Young Green Warriors, because even though he has his sights set on space, he wants earth to be beautiful and livable for everyone on it. He is also a vegetarian because he has had intense empathy for animals from a young age (he is the type of person who stopped eating meat as soon as he found out that it was animals when he was younger) and he is a firm believer in keeping the planet green for animals so they can have a better home. (He’s the type to cry at commercials of homeless dogs - don’t let that shit play around him or it will ruin his whole day.)
He also someone who uses his spare time to volunteer at soup kitchens and homeless shelters because it’s something that he’s done with his church since he was young, and when Stebbins quits ROTC and is lost about what to do with his time, he definitely recommends the type of church volunteer programs that he himself has already been a part of.
What is his clothing style?
He takes pride in his appearance. He grew up in a very large family where there wasn’t always a lot to go around, but he was taught from a young age that taking care of your appearance is how you present yourself to the world, and he was always taught to ‘dress nicely’ (and sometimes this might be a bad thing, because it means he can be a bit self conscious of others seeing him messy or too casually, and this is something that fades a bit as he’s living with the guys). Because of this, he dresses a bit ‘dorky’, because this is his idea of dressing nicely. He wears slacks, button ups, shiny shoes, the occasional sweater vest and bowtie. He’s probably the only other guy in the house who knows how to use the iron and he’s the only one who knows how to sew and he’s genuinely good at it. (And this means he gets pulled into fixing rips and tears for the other guys during an emergency, but he doesn’t ever mind.)
Later into his college experience, he gets more okay with wearing more ‘casual’ clothing, especially when Hank loops him into the graphic shirt game by gifting him some shirts with the NASA logo on them or different pictures of space rockets, and when he buys his first pair of jeans, it’s big talk in the house. The first time he’s seen wearing sneakers, everyone is delightfully shocked. But he is never the type of person who is okay with staining his clothing, and he is always on top of cleaning his clothes and probably the only person in the house who uses hangers who prevent wrinkles and keep things nice.
What’s his background?
He grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and he has a huge family. He has three siblings - one older sister and one younger sister and one baby brother who is only three years old by the time he comes to college, and he has many aunts and uncles and cousins, on top of people from his church who he refers to as family even if they aren’t blood related. His grandmother has always been a pillar in his life, as she took care of him and his siblings while his parents worked long hours, and all of his fondest memories are with her. Her teaching him how to cook, how to sew, her dressing him up before church, and her taking him over to a neighbour’s house to watch the moon landing and telling him ‘you can touch the stars if you want to. That’ll be you someday, Artie’ as he sat on her lap, staring at the screen in awe.
So even though it was painful for him to move so far away from home, he moved toward the program he had been accepted into in order to pursue his dream and fulfil those words that his grandmother had told him.
What are his relationships in the house?
As we have discussed, Art and Hank are very close.
I want to talk about another really underrated relationship - Art and Collie Parker. When everyone first moved in, Collie didn’t really make a concerted effort to make friends with the others - he acted slightly cold, ignoring the others, and nobody saw him as truly friendly. One night into the second month of their very first semester, Art walked past his room to the sound of cries, and he couldn’t help but to knock. And he ignored the ‘fuck off’ that was harshed out in return, muscling through and extending friendship. He was surprised to find that Collie was crying, alone, his things not even unpacked, still in boxes and suitcases because he was hurting and incredibly homesick. He missed his family too. He had a too huge family of many cousins, aunts, and uncles, and two little brothers that he had left behind (a huge part of the reason that he was trying to get a college education - to set a good example for them), but he already found himself crumbling, wanting to turn around and go home, especially because he missed his mom.
But Art wouldn’t let him do that. Art extended him a hand - a warm, homemade meal (not the kind that Collie was familiar with, but something warm and comforting that Art knew how to make) and then he spend the rest of the night helping Collie unpack his things, sparking friendly conversations about different things - like the guitar he had brought with him, and the different people in the framed photos that he clearly treasured. By the time they had finished, lovingly wrapping Collie’s bed in the handmade quilt that Collie’s mother had made for him, he found that ache inside of him settling - he didn’t feel so alone. And he started walking to classes with his new friend and walking upstairs for more of those late night talks if he found that feeling creeping up again. And later, Pete and Art conspired to learn some traditional Algonquin foods to try and make Collie feel more at home, which they executed… not so well, at first. But Collie stepped in and taught them how to fix what they were trying to make, and of course, the thought alone put a smile on his face.

Collie Parker - The Guitar Playing Mechanic
What is he studying?
He is also getting a degree in engineering (and because of this, him and Art often study together). He’s looking to go into civil engineering. Growing up, he always loved tinkering with anything mechanical that he could get his hands on - he was the kind of kid who would take apart a radio and put it back together, take apart his toys to see what was inside of them. He had an uncle that taught him how to fix cars, and he has always loved working with his hands. He’s unsure if he wants to open up his own mechanic shop and work on cars because he loves working with his hands (because ultimately, he does want to live close to home), but he knows that he wants to get his degree first, because he wants to set a good example for his younger brothers by getting a higher education.
What clubs and activities does he do?
He’s not one for organized clubs and activities either, mostly because he doesn’t have time. He takes his studies very seriously, and he tries to devote most of his time to getting good grades.
When he’s not studying, he does try to socialize - though he prefers smaller gatherings with just a few people he knows instead of larger parties. And he does help out with Greenies, especially if Art asks him to.
Other than that, he’s always had a passion for guitar. His mom taught him how to play from a young age, and though he doesn’t think he’s that good of a singer (and when he’s alone, he prefers to play instrumental pieces), his mother loves his singing and always encourages him to sing. Later in his college experience, he finds a shitty dive bar in town - one called The Overlook, and because there’s usually not many people there, the owner allows him to play there on weekends in exchange for free beer (and when the guys find out about this, they try to take advantage of it, and mostly - it doesn’t fly). Collie isn’t majorly interested in getting paid to play - he doesn’t have dreams of becoming a big rockstar, he wants a practical career. He just wants to play there to get over his stage fright, and he knows it will help him grow as a person.
What is his clothing style?
He does have distinctive preferences over the kind of things he wears - he wears a lot of band shirts with the sleeves cut off (only of bands he listens to), jeans, and other random shirts like flannels. He always wears his distinctive bear claw necklace, and he has a denim jacket that he’s very fond of that he wears a lot. He can almost always be seen wearing his doc martens, no matter what the weather is, and they are more than comfortably worn in. Some of his clothes have grease stains from working on cars, but he tries to keep that to a specific set of clothes, and he takes pride in his other clothes giving off a specific look and style, as well as being comfortable.

What’s his background?
He grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He has a big family, and he’s always been close with his extended aunts, uncles, and cousins, and cousins of cousins - but only on his mother’s side. His father was never in the picture, and never talked about much, but from what he can remember in those vague and hazy memories, the man never treated his mother right. It made Collie incredibly standoffish when the man tried to return when Collie was twelve, only to take off again shortly after his mother became pregnant again with twins - but by that time, Collie was already used to being the man of the house, and he had no issue with stepping up and helping to raise his two younger brothers. It’s a huge part of the reason why he was so hesitant to leave them in order to go to college - he knew the boys looked up to him, needed him, but he also knew that was a huge reason to leave. He needed to set a good example for them about finishing high school with good marks and chasing something better. And he still calls home and talks to them as often as he can, checking on them to make sure that they’re doing well.
What are his relationships in the house?
We have discussed that he’s close with Art, and aside from that, his closest relationship in the house is probably Pete or Ray.
At one point, he opens up to Pete about how he felt like he had to grow up too quickly, which Pete understands. And some late night lamenting about their lost childhoods causes them both to bond on a deeper level.
With Ray, it’s a moment where Ray’s mother is saying goodbye to him after dropping him off after a long weekend, and her clutching onto him in a tight hug has Collie’s eyes lingering over, and when Ray sees this after closing the door behind his mother, he says “what? You gonna laugh at me? Call me a Mama’s boy?” and Collie just frowns and says “no.” and the painful longing in his eyes has Ray knocking on his bedroom door later that night, and they have a long talk about how Collie misses home, and he felt like he abandoned his mom to come to college, and Ray assures him that he’s doing the right thing and he’s doing right by his family.

Richard Harkness - The Dorky Journalist
What is he studying?
He is studying journalism, with a minor in literature.
His mother is a reporter, and she is widely regarded as one of the most revolutionary female journalists in America. When the was fresh out of college, she was expected to be a pretty news anchor or only do fluffy pieces, and she did not accept that - even when she got pregnant with her first son and then had Richie a bit later on, she didn’t accept that she needed to be nothing more than a stay at home mom. (And she had a very supportive ‘Mister Mom’ type husband who stayed at home and raised the kids, allowing her to chase her dreams.) Harkness always looked up to his mother, who broke stories about corruption, pollution, and bad politics - one of her most famous pieces being about the poor living conditions of an asylum Masachusetts where the patients were negelcted and abused. The story even getting the asylum shut down as a result. Though his mother traveled a lot for work and it meant that he didn’t get to spend much time with her, he always admired her as a personal hero, and it shaped his idea of who he wanted to be when he grew up from a very young age.

What clubs and activities does he do?
He is part of Greenies - due to a lot of his mother’s pieces, he knew from a young age that environmental politics was important, and while most kids were playing baseball or riding bikes around the neighbourhood, he was collecting signatures on a petition to have a recycling program installed at his school. He has always been an active proponent for a greener environment, wanting to be involved in the issues.
He also runs the campus newspaper, called The Grapevine. During his first semester, he muscles his way in and becomes one of the only ever freshman to write a front page piece, and due to the senior editor having to leave school early due to a family emergency (and basically due to a case of nepotism due to Harkness’s mother’s name) - he then becomes the first ever freshman editor of the paper. And it’s something he takes incredibly seriously. From sports pieces (that he knows almost nothing about, and has to constantly defer to Stebbins or Parker about) to lifestyle pieces that could be about fashion and beauty that he also has to ask for help with, he takes each piece seriously and wants every single edition to be its best, even if people don’t see it as hard hitting news. He knows the experience is good, and he has a lot of fun doing it.
What is his clothing style?
He dresses like a total dork, in the most sincere and endearing way. He swears sweater vests, bow ties, argyle sweaters, actual long ties, button up vests, button up shirts. He wears slacks and dress pants and oxfords. And he does wear converse very often. He wears a lot of blazers and scarves. He very rarely wears jeans. Basically, his entire wardrobe is somewhere between ‘bussiness casual’ and ‘actual business’. He has a leather messenger bag that he takes everywhere with him, and several times, he has been mistaken for a professor (from behind, because he has such a young face that when people see him, they know he’s not actually one of the old, old, old professors at the school). Also, a bit later into his college years, he is mistaken as a TA, and people start leaving their papers on his desk. Often. And after a while, he doesn’t say anything about it, and he just does them the favour of handing those papers in anyway.
He thinks that he needs to make a good impression on people if he’s going to have a career as a future journalist, so he always dresses like he’s going to an important meeting. And it’s even funnier when he gets drunk and his fancy clothes are slightly off kilter and his perfectly gelled hair is a bit messed up and he looks like the nutty professor…
(Basically, I imagine him dressing like Spencer Reid - if you read the fic I wrote, I mentioned the mismatched socks. It was a reference.)
What’s his background?
He’s from New York, and he’s very much a city boy. Moving to Maine was a big change of pace for him - no subway, no concrete jungle. But he wanted to strike out on his own, especially because, between his older brother (who is insanely protective of him) and his soft hearted father, he has been babied his whole life, and he wanted to have a college experience that gave him true independence.
Of course, this meant that he had to learn how to drive (because again, he’s used to taking the subway), cook, and do laundry from the other guys, but in exchange, he’s the go to person in the house to proofread essays and because he’s known as a goody-two-shoes (based on appearances only - not something struck in fact) with professors and other authority figures, he covers for the others whenever needed. It’s a give and take.
What are his relationships in the house?
He is the type of guy who is friendly with everyone. Not only is he intensely likeable, but he’s very chatty, and he’s the type of person who can ‘mold’ into what other people need in the moment. And due to him wanting to be a journalist, he’s intensely good at keeping secrets and he’s a very good listener, so unintentionally, he becomes the house therapist at times - but he doesn’t mind. If people unloading their problems on him make them feel better, then he’s okay with that.
Surprisingly, a bit later into their college years, he becomes close with Stebbins - someone who seems uncrackable and was never super close with anyone. After that report against The Major doesn’t go anywhere, Stebbins comes to Harkness and asks if they can go a piece for The Grapevine about what happened to Stebbins - even if they don’t use names, even if they don’t call out The Major directly, he feels that the story of militant abuse at the school deserves to be exposed. And Harkness is more than on board. It’s the first piece he’s done exposing true corruption, and over the next few days, he does many interviews with Stebbins and dives deep. He learns all about Stebbins’s childhood, his mother’s cancer, his choice to become a doctor, and how his father dismantled that once happy child, piece by piece. He learns how Stebbins sought validation that he was never going to receive, and late one night, in the quiet of his room, over the hum of a tape recorder, he pulls Stebbins close, and squeezes him in a hug - something he hasn’t felt in years. And when he whispers “you’re a good person”, Stebbins breaks down crying.
Harkness eventually decides to scrap the piece. He knows that Stebbins needed someone to hear his story, but he doesn’t need that hurt paraded across the entirety of the school newspaper, and eventually, Stebbins realizes that too. Though it does inspire him to write something that he puts in the back of the paper that he calls ‘An Open Letter To All The Lonely Children’, and Stebbins cries again when he reads it. (Pete finds Harkness and hugs him tightly without saying a word after he reads it.)
Harkness and Stebbins become much closer after this, and many are surprised by their bond, but soon, it’s not so strange to see Harkness following Stebbins around excitedly yapping about something while Stebbins nods and grunts every few minutes.

He was one of the earliest known Dark wizards and his work left a lasting impression in dark magic during the 20th century. Herpo sufficiently achieved notoriety, earning the epithet of "the Foul" by his fellow wizards.

He had eight children, and probably some of them were wizards.
And it's canonical that William the Conqueror had connections with wizards, since the wizard Armand Malfoy was among his army. So it's not hard to say he had great relevance in the wizarding world even though he was a Muggle (especially since the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy didn't yet exist).
Gilbert of Ghent is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as having received titles to 172 English manors (mostly in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire), but also to 14 counties where there were holdings, including York, Derby, Huntingdonshire, Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire.
And one of Gilbert of Ghent's sons was a pureblood or half-blood wizard and became more involved in British wizarding society, and that's how the Gaunt family came about (headcanons).
The Gaunts gained even more prestige in the wizarding world for being descendants of Salazar Slytherin, always using this to their advantage.

The same happened with the descendants of Cadmus Peverell who, through marriage, the Gaunt family received the Resurrection Stone and it was set into the ring (probably the male line of the family of Cadmus Peverell's descendants is extinct, but the female line still exists because one of the descendants married a Gaunt and adopted his surname).
— The ring passed through the male Gaunts, generation to generation (canon), among the members of the Gaunt family, obtaining this ring means that you have finally earned the title of heir to the family (headcanon).
Family intrigues were common; fights between siblings and even cousins were to be expected. Poisonings and brutal deaths among family members (I think this would be canon anyway).
It was common for members to know about the dark arts from childhood - as pranks using dark magic were common (canon - Hogwarts Legacy, Relationship Quest "In the Shadow of the Bloodline")
And when any member disagrees or is against the family's ideas, it was a consensus among the members to try to change the mindset or get rid of that member, unless the member hides these types of thoughts for survival.
And probably one of the reasons why Ominis survived and wasn't "killed" is because of his aunt, Noctua (since she wrote regularly to her brother (who is Ominis' father) it shows that they probably had a "good" relationship even though she is against the use of the dark arts - but that didn't help since Ominis suffered at the hands of his relatives).
Members of the family were obsessed with their heritage (canon) and sought to know about anything that related to Salazar Slytherin, where many members explored and sought to know more (such as Noctua having sought after and explored Slytherin's Scriptorium. The Scriptorium itself was a small study containing Salazar Slytherin's personal property - canon).
— It was common for members to have several children (3 - 4) so that they would have several grandchildren to maintain family purity by marrying these grandchildren.

This brought side effects such as Mental Instability and Inbreeding. Inbreeding also had a negative effect on a person's physical appearance. Marvolo Gaunt was short, and oddly proportioned, and his eyes, like those of his son and daughter, stared in opposite directions.

The Gaunt family would already have a brutal fate, it was only a matter of time.

Let's say you have a yokai and are close friends with Momo and Okarun.. and you fought Acrobatic Silky. What if I told you that Aira fell in love with you instead of Okarun?
She saw you as a 'demon' since you have a yokai but you still saved her.
"Despite being a demon, you tried to save me multiple times. Why?"
If you responded to her with something like "you needed help, so I decided to help"
.. congratulations, you got an Aira in love.
She wouldn't hide her crush on you.
Her behavior when she's in love is noticeably more gentle and warm compared to her interactions with other people.
She would blush when she sees you and would clearly try romantic things with you, like holding hands, going on a date, or even going to see movies together.
She would do anything to protect/help you, did you see how Aira acted when she was in her yokai form? She would act the same way she did with Okarun. She in Yokai form, would call you Mister (Reader).
She would clearly be jealous and wouldn't even hide it, I can feel that.
Aira acknowledges her ignorance on how to deal with her feelings, as she has never felt this way before and we saw what she did in episode 08.
It would be chaotic to have a romantic relationship with Aira, but it would be a good relationship seeing as Aira is a kind and affectionate person with someone she loves.
The diva (Aira) knows a lot about fashion if we saw the style of clothes she wears in the manga. – She would make you wear matching clothes as a couple (It's very much like her)
First, I will use this scene as a base, where I gradually created the timeline, using the date 1619, shown on Acier Silva's tomb, and how Noelle was born a year before Acier's death, making her born in the year 1618, showing that the Black Clover anime started in the year 1633.
And of course I will add more things over time, and there will be a part 2 where I will try to record the events of the episodes (something that will take a while because I have to study for the final exams).
And I also decided to use this date based on this scene because it would make it easier to make the timeline.

– Tetia and Licht are married - Massacre of the Elven Tribe
– Lumiere fights Licht (who has turned into a demon), Secre seals Lumiere in a statue on top of the giant skull.
He later becomes known as the first Wizard King, Secre/Nero turns into a bird.
We don't know the date more or less about the time of Princess, Jester and Edward, they were born, lived and died centuries after Lumiere and centuries before the birth of Acier, Julius and+..
So I decided to separate this and since it was chronological to put the story and what happened, I put it like: "Princia/Jester/Edward Era"
★ "Princia Era"
Princia lived with her family, who wanted to live a peaceful life on the land they still owned. However, a group of selfish and greedy royals took over the family's lands and left them penniless and poor.
She became a magic knight of the Blue Rose squad. She quickly gained a reputation for herself, to the point that the royals made her the 11th Wizard King to strengthen their own influence.
During the war against the Diamond Kingdom, Princia played a key role on the battlefield, as she single-handedly held most of the enemy forces to a standstill, effectively helping the Clover Kingdom win overall.
However, at the end of the war, the generals hid the people and her own family from Princia, but she eventually found out and became consumed with rage at everyone involved in covering it up. Before she could retaliate, she was stripped of her title as Wizard Emperor by her generals and even imprisoned, having her magic sealed away as well.
During her imprisonment, the village where she was held was attacked by bandits, and despite having her magic sealed, she fought against the bandits, sacrificing her life in the process, dying.
★ "Jester Era"
Jester was born into a noble family, growing up privileged and without hardship. Due to his exceptional talent in magic, Jester became a Magic Knight. He became friends with Tenor (who died) and Raid, who revealed himself to be a traitor after Jester became the 16th Wizard King.
Guilt-ridden over his loss, Jester believed that the only way to end the wars between the four neighboring kingdoms was to rule all four kingdoms, leading to what became known as the Conquest of the Four Kingdoms campaign, which gained support from some but led others to officially view Jester as a "Mad King".
Despite his plan, Jester continued to gain support, as achieving it would bring the nations under a single banner and promote growing peace between the warring kingdoms and the villages and territories affected by those wars. However, Jester's growing influence greatly disturbed the Clover Kingdom's royalty, who set a trap to get rid of him once and for all. In the process of creating a unified world of peace, Jester unfortunately lost his life before he could even complete his goal.
★ "Edward Era"
Edward Avalanche was born with a promising future as a Magic Knight, but he had no interest in becoming one. Instead, he spent his time in churches, listening to priests in the Common and Forgotten Regions. He decided to leave his home to become a priest.
Ten years later, during the war between the Clover Kingdom and the Diamond Kingdom, Edward's orphanage was raided and the children were killed. After this, he decided to become a Magic Knight.
He soon rose through the ranks and was eventually crowned the 20th Magic King. Although the people loved Edward, the royals and nobles opposed his goal of eliminating the borders between the Royal, Common, and Forgotten Regions.
Edward's title of Magic King was revoked. Seeking revenge, Edward formed a resistance to eliminate the royals and nobles. However, his resistance was interrupted and Edward was eventually captured and subsequently executed.

– In Hino, a plague has ravaged its regions, killing those with weak magical power. As the two strongest, Ryuya and Yosuga are asked to acquire the Tengentsu to find the special herb that will cure the sick; however, whoever does so will lose all of their magical power. Ryuya immediately accepts without hesitation, and upon successfully acquiring the eye, locates the plant in time to save the people of the region.

On William's 16th birthday, Patolli fully awakens and receives his own grimoire. That year, he also meets Yami Sukehiro on the battlefield and they continue to meet until one day they both become captains of new Magic Knight squads.

The entire White Serpent squad and Conrad's wife Lovillia are killed in a mission that is revealed to be a trap orchestrated by a faction of royalty that hated Conrad. This leads Conrad to the conclusion that the only way to truly change the country is to rebuild it. As he immersed himself in researching ancient magic and tools, he eventually stole the kingdom's national treasure, Elsdocia, and began planning a rebellion that was stopped by Julius Novachrono.

— Morgen Faust dies this year

September 18: Yami is enjoying noodle soup when the curse of Briar Magic in the Roselei House causes the soup to spill over him. Cutting off the thorns, Yami confronts and chastises Charlotte Roselei for trusting only herself. At this point, the curse is broken and the thorns dissolve as Charlotte falls in love with Yami.
★ 1625 - 1633
At some point (I'll guess between 1625 and 1627), Yami Sukehiro and William Vengeance formed their own squadron.
Yami searches for a base for his new squad, Yami investigates a large house rumored to be haunted and discovers Henry Legolant, the bedridden and deathly weak owner. As Yami is frightened by the idea of someone dying in the house, he promises to bring others to live there. He also recruits Henry as a member of the squad.
— During the conflicts between the Clover Kingdom and the Diamond Kingdom, Yami fights and injures Lotus Whomalt, scarring and frightening the Diamond Kingdom mage.
– Vanessa and Gordon join the Black Bulls.
At some unknown point, Zora encounters Yami Sukehiro, who offers him a place in the Black Bull squad. Although Zora takes and keeps the mantle, he does not put it on and continues on his mission.
Grey enters the black bulls before Gauche. (Charmy probably entered before or after Grey)
Gauche, who was arrested but escaped, was defeated by Yami Sukehiro, who invites him to join the Black Bull squad, which he accepts and ends up.
Magna and Luck join the Black Bulls after the Entrance Exam.

“Gripoire Acceptance Ceremony” takes place in March – Yuno receives a four-leaf grimoire, while Asta receives a five-leaf grimoire.

Okarun is a self-proclaimed socially awkward individual who has an intense interest in the paranormal, with his main focus being the existence of cryptids and foundlings.
But imagine if you showed up all nice and wanted to know about the paranormal? He'd say so much that he'd only get all embarrassed/shy later.
Okarun was very quick to make assumptions about other people's judgments, which made him deliberately keep others at a distance.(I'm sure he loves words of affirmation) You get really close to him, and he's already all nervous!
Imagine dating? He'd still be nervous, of course! But he'd get all goofy with a 'I'm dating a beautiful girl!' face.
'I can handle anything! Because now I have a beautiful girlfriend.'
He kissed you for the first time? He'd get all goofy and even more nervous.
