This was actually a major clue to Poirot in the Cruise Ship episode of Season 1. He suspected the husband because his faux kindness and acceptance of being treated like garbage was too perfect.

Hastings is shown to be more of a 'commoner' than Poirot, as he works on his car himself instead of delegating the task to someone else. Much to pour it's consternation. Victim has a very 'modern' Art Deco home. Interesting note: the alley used in the mystery has been shot in other mystery shows such as an episode of New Tricks as a murder location. Victim shot.
