Sorry to keep hating but I genuinely dislike the idea of Wally joining the Batfamily for soooo many reasons but also just… why would he leave the flashfam for the bat family when it makes twice as much sense for Dick to do so?
I can hardly name and issue Wally’s had with other speedsters that isn’t tied to Barry’s dead or his impostor’s syndrome… But I can name you more than a few problems Dick has had in his family that are not on him.
You don't see the Wally fans part of the Birdflash shipping pushing for Dick to join the Flash fam but I might as well, right? Heck he doesn't even have to join as a hero, but how come there are so many fics of the batfam threatening wally for sating Dick and none of Iris interrogating Dick?? Or how it would go do with Jesse?

Being a DickWally fan who doesn’t like Tumblr Bat-Flanon or Young Justice makes DickWally feel like a rare pair.
Avoiding “Wally joins the Batfam” content is especially hard. One thing I do know is that Comic Young Justice fans were also seriously impacted by the show, making it hard to find fan content related to the stuff they liked, so they started using “Young Just Us” as a tag to find their content.
Maybe us DickWally fans who don’t like batflanon or Young Justice could do something similar?
Admittedly, I’ve also always kinda hated the ship name birdflash, especially because the other ship names for that show are so freaking genius. I don’t like the show, but the ship names were the most creative I’ve ever seen. I made a poll a long time ago offering alternatives but not many voted on it and picked the joke answer as a winner, though another tumblr user recently did their own poll using a name I also liked and used to use, and it got voted in.

Out of curiosity, when did DC's silver age begin? It's usually stated that it began with the introduction of Barry Allen in Showcase #4 dated October 1956. Kathy Kane is also considered to be a silver age character though. She was introduced in Detective Comics #233 dated July 1956, which means she was introduced before Barry.
The start of the silver is is solidly 1956, the year the Comics Code of Authority was enacted and comics had to change permanently to try and survive ✨
Therefore if you’re trying to find out which issue is the starting point look for which was the first issue to be printed in a different size to accommodate the changes being made to the companies
Okay I have a few questions because I’m extremely confused. So first things first, what I know from Wally comes from 1- the Young Justice cartoon (loved that show but omf was not Young justice), 2- the new teen titans and I’ve barely finished that and 3- the absolute flash which is a new universe so it doesn’t really count.
So my question is:
Are Wally’s parents shitty?? Because I thought he had a good family life, which is what made the absolute flash Wally different from the main universe Wally, but I’ve seen some people saying that they were shit but also saying that they were okay??
Were they bad?? And then if they were what makes is like absolute flash’s main difference from main universe?? Like how Batman is not a billionaire and how Superman grew up in Krypton.

I was actually gonna make a vid on TikTok about it but this will be like a half-assed version bc I’m not done with research yet.
I’ve only read one appearance of Rudy and Mary in the og “The Flash” where Wally graduates high school/ comes clean about being Kid Flash and they barely interact so there’s no hint of what the relationship is like. From what I know it’s very vague in other issues too so leaves room for interpretation (but I could be wrong bc I haven’t read this)
In Teen Titans as you know Wally writes them a heartfelt letter, that hints at them not being the closest but still loving each other.
Everything changes with Messner-Loebs Flash, the first to really create a dynamic. Now if you’re reading YJ fanfic you’ll probably see a lot of Rudy is an abusive drunk schtick, it occurs so often it’s official fanon. In Wally’s Run of the Flash, Rudy is a gigantic asshole, but a very scammy calculated and sometimes charming narcissist way, not bumbling drunk way. Wally still cares for his parents and loans them thousands after winning the lottery, but Rudy blows it all within weeks and comes back to pressure Wally for more, showing a very toxic power dynamic where Rudy uses Wally’s relationship with him against him.
Then Rudy turns out to be a spy for the Manhunters all along as each spy was assigned a different hero to become close too, but since Rudy wasn’t all that close with Wally he was asked to kill him to get him out of the way. Oh and he told Wally his mom was dead bc he faked an accident that was supposed to kill her but it didn’t. Rudy escapes but Mary lives and stays with Wally.
Mary’s another story. She’s self absorbed, temper-mental, Wally’s biggest critic while being nice to him when she feels like it. She’s just like Monica and Ross’ mom in Friends, and Wally is Monica. And Wally’s friend Chunk is Ross. The Beautiful thing about messner-loebs Flash is that he was all about character development and redemption, and Mary grew to be a better person but Wally still couldn’t forgive her, and as they slowly got better and easier around each other, their history and personalities came to confront how she treated him growing up, and Wally straight up let her know he couldn’t forgive her. From there she’s tossed out of the storyline but I haven’t gotten very far in Mark Waids stuff, but his first story arc centers around his two father figures: Barry and Rudy
It’s Wally’s first year as kid Flash and Mark has Rudy as an even worse dad. Instead of an emotionally manipulative power dynamic Rudy is downright scum, and as Wally puts it, “the kind of people who never should have been parents”. It supplies that Rudy is emotionally distant and that the two go head to head in almost abusive fights, though as to whether or not Rudy does get abusive you have to factor in where Wally comes from there was abuse and there was spankings, and almost everyone from the south (including myself) got improvised spankings. I’m going to guess that Wally got spanked growing up, even if he never struck him anywhere else or with anything else.
The ending is really weird moment where Wally hates his dad and wants more than anything to get away from him but when his dad almost dies Wally saves him and profoundly forges a better relationship, not a good one, but better relationship where he actually tries for his dad. Mary is hardly mentioned.
As for Wally’s stepdad, the feelings are pretty neutral.
As far as I know, Wally’s parents are rewritten to be like a pseudo ma and pa Kent, as Worlds Finest: Teen Titans is currently canon past. They’re written as saints, who go “oh poor Roy, Ollie doesn’t pay enough attention to him, we wish we could give him the love he needs” I got severe whiplash reading that after reading The Flash vol 2. But then again, they’re drawn just like Wally’s parents in The Flash vol 1. So maybe that’s who they represent, I’ll know when I read it. And also Wally isn’t an Asshole in WF Teen Titans, and is weirdly the emotionally sensitive and soft spoken kid, and for some reason the youngest. Wally is a much better character when he’s an asshole.
I highly, highly suggest reading the Flash Vol 2. It’s not only the longest running canon for Wally’s parents, but the way Messner-Loeb does character development and character dynamics is literally unmatched by anything else you’ll read in DC. His plots are pretty good too. He doesn’t put Rudy and Mary into boxes, they’re so deeply fleshed out and go through many things. Rudy occasionally makes a come back then gets presumed dead again, honestly the best scene to sum up some of this iswhen Wally joins a cult and is tricked by Rudy (who’s a ringmaster in the timeshare/cult) into thinking his ghost has been conjured up for Wally to speak to (Wally doesn’t know he’s alive) and one of the first things Wally says is “can I talk to Barry?!” After seeing his dead dad. Peak dialogue for Messner-Loeb too.
