Hello tumblr.
I know Romania isn't well known by most of you, and I know this isn't as important as what is currently happening in America, but please take a moment to learn and spread information about the current issue faced by romanian lgbtq+ people.
As a response to attempts to introduce sexual education in schools, the senate is trying to pass a law making it illegal to mention "gender identity" in academic spaces. According to this law, schools and universities alike would be banned from discussing "gender, understood as something different from biological sex".
Not only is this a bigoted law and an attempt to bring censorship in academic spaces, but it also creates issues for universities which offer master programs based on gender studies. Through this law, university programs based on gender equality or gender studies would be banned.

Causes event in Bucharest, Romania by Feminism Romania and Asociatia Accept on Thursday, June 18 2020 with 290 people interested and 128 peo
Tomorrow, june 18th around 6pm, Feminism Romania and Accept will organise a flash-mob as a response to this whole thing. I higly recommend you attend if you can
The president has said he won’t pass the law.
The part that makes me laugh bitterly is that the law already says that religious propaganda isn’t allowed in schools - despite the fact that Religion is an official subject taught by priests during the normal school schedule.
some photos from the event (x)
a bit of good news for a change: earlier today president iohannis announced that he will not promulgate the law banning gender studies and has instead sent it to the constitutional court for re-examination. this means there’s a solid chance the law (and any similar proposals in the future) will be declared unconstitutional.

I like to think there is a parallel universe where reading comment sections is known as a soothing pastime because everyone on the parallel Internet is as kind and polite as the commenters on yourdailypoem.com:

Mr Incredible helped his clients find loopholes in their insurance claims because it was the closest thing he had to being a hero in a long time
*third eye opens* Mr. Incredible originally joined the insurance company thinking that it was the closest he could be to helping people and found out that insurance companies were the real villains and did everything he could to dismantle the opressive establishment.

What I mean: In Fullmetal Alchemist, Roy Mustang says “It’s raining” or “It’s a terrible day for rain” at his best friend Maes Hughes’ funeral, held on a day with clear skies. It seems like he says this because he begins to cry after he says it. But when you think about it, Mustang is “useless” when it rains/when he gets wet because he can’t use his flame alchemy. He equates rain to uselessness. So when he says it’s raining at Hughes’ funeral, he means that he feels useless/helpless now that his best friend is dead. The writing in this show has the ability to rip out your heart and stomp on it when you’re least expecting it, then kick you while you’re down. I am NOT okay.
Also, he says this specifically to Riza, who is usually the one protecting him when he can’t use his alchemy in the rain. Roy himself sometimes forgets that rain ruins his alchemy, but Riza remembers and is always prepared for such a situation. Roy, by saying “it’s raining,” specifically to Riza, is conveying that he feels helpless, accepts this, and is asking to be supported. FUCK.
You fucking made it worse. I don’t know how, but you mADE IT WORSE.

Man full metal alchemist really uh really did everything attack on titan tried to do but ten times better like uhhhhh ten years earlier. I’m talking the uhh theme of a singular city constantly at war, an oppressive monarchy enforced by military police, daddy issues, dead mothers, powerful kids, the constant air of mystery surrounding the monstrous beings and the implications of a huge conspiracy. It goes without saying it helps that fma isn’t uhhhhhhh written by a hardline nationalist
More importantly: full metal alchemist is actually fun and enjoyable to watch and can have dramatic and emotional impact without resorting to

#fma is written by a woman who wrote about racial relations specifically because of her observations of the mistreatment of the ainu people #And the fact that she has both ainu and imperialist ancestors #it’s literally so much better

For bonus context, the actual quote they’re citing for this protest comes from Edgar Mitchell (1930-2016), who flew in Apollo 14 and was the sixth person to walk on the Moon.
The full quotation, referring to the experience of observing Earth from the Moon surface, is thus:
You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.’
