Submitted Prompt: Marinette's Miraculous Redesign
Ok! So, this is my first Submission so I apologise if it’s not of a high quality.
Anyways! My friend Asuki and I were reading through a few of the “Break the Miraculous to free the Kwamis” Prompts when Asuki had a thought.
Asuki: “Hmm… While I don’t mind the concept, what if the Order wasn’t lying about this shit?”
Asuki: “Like, not the whole THIS IS FOR THEIR OWN GOOD bullshit, but the part where the Kwamis need the Miraculous to stay in contact with the physical world? While breaking the Miraculous would free the Kwami it would also make them unperceivable to every but the other Kwamis while making it so they can’t do anything but watch events unfold. Wouldn’t that be fucked up?”
Richard: “Hmm… You have a point, but what else are the characters meant to do in that situation?”
Asuki: “Huehuehuehue… I’m so glad you asked!”
She then sent me a file labelled “Neo Miraculous Aspect List” and told me to read it.
Apparently she’s had this thought before and created scenario where the Miraculous still exist but the Kwamis aren’t enslaved by them.
The general situation she outlined goes something like this:
-Marinette somehow discovers the Kwamis are enslaved by the Miraculous.
-She plans to destroy them to free her smol friends, but Tikki stops her and explains despite the Order of Guardians being filled with arrogant and controlling ASSHOLES, they really weren’t lying about how the Kwamis needed to be bonded to a Miraculous in order to interact with the physical world and blow everything up with a single use of their unrestrained Powers.
-Despite this setback, Marinette remains determined to help them because that’s just how she is.
-And so she comes up with a Plan B. She first asks(Specifically ASKS) to Unify Tikki’s and Ziggy’s Miraculous, waiting until she has their permission before using their combined might to create a specific object: The Miracle Altar.
The Miracle Altar has the ability to alter and change how a Miraculous functions, basically rewriting their rules. Using it, Marinette immediately threw in the Ladybug Miraculous and began modifying it so Tikki doesn’t have to obey any orders unless she wants to.
But then Marinette figures- “Hey! I’m changing the Miraculous anyways, so why not give ‘em an upgrade while I’m at it to give us an edge over Hawkmoth?” -and then basically adds so many cool features(With some input from the Kwamis) that the Miraculous go from shining shackles to truly beautiful magical accessories.
And here’s where the Neo Miraculous Aspect List comes into play since this next part is just a literal Copy-Paste of it.
Shoutout to Asuki for spending so much time working on this.
Also quick note: This is based on Asuki’s own Miracleverse, so the stuff about the Miraculous having multiple Powers each and the stuff about Elemental Magic stems from that. Just so you know.
A list for the traits and abilities of the Updated Miraculous
This list details all of the traits a Miraculous obtains when it’s updated and how they work.
One of the most prominent aspects of the Neo Miraculous is that the Kwamis have much more control over them.
Instead of essentially being slaves to the shackles, the Kwamis are now fully capable of restraining the usage of certain Powers, or the entire Transformation as a whole.
If the Holder wishes to use their conceptual might, then the Kwami has to allow it instead of the Holder being able to do it regardless of the Kwami’s opinion on the matter.
Furthermore, how many times a Holder can use a certain Power is also determined by their Kwami.
If the Kwami allows it, the Miraculous Holder is also capable of transforming and activating Powers without incantation(Transformation phrases and saying Power Names).
The Kwami can also disable the Miraculous’ Parental Controls in order to allow the Holder to use their own energy for extra Power Uses and to maintain a Transformation
-Addendum - 1: In the case of an evil Holder, the Kwami are also capable of forcing a detransformation.
Another prominent aspect of the Neo Miraculous is the new phrases: “[Kwami], Tag-In!” “[Kwami], Tag-Out.”
This Tag-Teaming function allows the Kwami to take control of the Holder’s body, even without manifesting the Miraculous Suit on the Holder’s body.
It should be noted that the Holder cannot forcibly retake control of their body, the Kwami must tag themselves out.
This means that the entire function of Tag-Teaming requires immense trust from the Holder as once they hand over the reigns they won’t be getting them back until the Kwami is done and willingly gives control back to the Holder.
-Addendum - 1: If the Kwami desires they can changes their host’s physical features to align with their own appearance, essentially making them look like the Kwamis taking on a different form.
-Addendum - 2: In the case of an evil Holder, the Kwami can hijack their body whenever they want.
Through the link of the Miraculous the Holder and Kwami are capable of sharing memories and emotions, or just simply communicating telepathically.
Note that this is a consensual process, if the Holder and/or Kwami don’t want to share their thoughts and feelings then the other won’t get anything.
Although this is partially subverted if the Kwami naturally has empathic abilities, such as the likes of Nooroo and Duusu being able to detect emotions.
-Addendum: A recently added trait is that if both Holder and Kwami agree to it, they can “Stick” the Miraculous to the Holder, preventing it’s theft. However this is only if both the Kwami and Holder agree to it, so the Kwami is unable of forcing the Holder to remain as such.
If the usage of an Advanced Power is required or the Kwami simply wishes to test their Holder, they can initiate a “Trial”.
These Trials are challenges that, if completed, allows for a single use of the Power dictated by the Kwami.
The difficulty of the Trial is decided by the Kwami, ranging from Level 1 to Level 10, with the lowest Level being something simple like a nine-piece puzzle or crossword game and the highest Level being nigh-impossible to complete.
If the Trial proves to be too difficult for the Holder, they can simply give up and lose out on the potential Power use.
It should be noted that only the Holder can quit the Trials, the Kwamis cannot prevent them from not giving up.
As these Trials take place in mental simulations, this means a Holder can spend years trying to complete a single Trial without a second passing in the real world.
Unlike the original Miraculous design that force the Kwami to remain within their Miraculous when they don’t have a Holder, the Neo Miraculous allow the Kwami to spend as much time as they want outside even when their Miraculous aren’t being worn by someone.
The Kwami is also capable of remaining within the Miraculous while it’s being worn and the Holder isn’t transformed. This does not change the Miraculous out of it’s Camouflage Mode.
It should also be noted that their Holders can also no longer give them orders. Meaning the only orders that the Kwamis obey are ones they choose to follow.
Each Miraculous has a pocket dimension within it that the Kwamis can store stuff in.
The space is infinite, so the size of the object that the Kwami wants to story away is irrelevant.
Time also doesn’t apply within the pocket dimension, so entropy can’t touch anything held within it. This means that every memorabilia that the Kwamis want to keep will last for eternity.
Addendum: The appearance of the pocket dimension changes according to the Kwami’s will. They want a small house? Done. They want an entire apartment complex all to themselves? Why not? They want a single chair in the middle of an endless void? I don’t know why they’d want that, but it’s an option!
If a Holder proves themselves worthy, or their Kwami just really likes them a whole lot, the Kwami can Bless the Holder with some sort of gift.
This can be in the form of one of their Powers, enhanced affinity with a specific type of Elemental Magic, the ability to transform into the Kwami’s animal, etc.
The only limitation to this is what aspects of the universe the Kwami is made of(Example: Trixx is Illusion, Secrecy, Trickery, Sabotage, and othersuch concepts, so he’d be able to give Blessings related to those things, but not defence/protection-oriented Blessings as those are not his turf, they’re Wayzz’).
Similarly to the Bless function, the Kwamis can also claim their Holder as their “Chosen”, granting said person a number of benefits:
1 - The Chosen can immediately summon the Miraculous back to them, meaning there’s no danger of losing it.
2 - Due to the excess Miraculous energy coursing through their body, the Chosen becomes stronger, faster, and more energised more quickly.
3 - The Chosen and Kwami will always have a telepathic bond much like in the “Connection” section, except the Holder doesn’t need to be wearing the Miraculous.
4 - Marks the Chosen with the Kwami’s symbol/emblem, informing people who see it(And know of it’s significance) that this is someone they should respect.
The Kwami’s symbol/emblem is protected by magic so only those the Holder wants to see it will be able to do so. Furthermore the symbol/emblem can be moved to any part of the Holder’s body, even including their eyeballs!
Addendum: In the event of being the Chosen of multiple Kwamis, the Chosen can merge their symbols/emblems into a single one if they desire, with the resulting design based on the Chosen’s desires(Yin-Yang symbol style, making an emblem split into pieces with each one representing a different Miraculous, etc).
Note: The Holder is fully capable of refusing the privilege of being a Chosen, whatever their reasons for doing so may be, so the Kwami can’t force it upon them. Though they might get called crazy for turning it down.
Instead of a Magic Glamour to protect the Holder’s identity, the Miraculous generates a Perception Filter that renders everyone caught in it incapable of linking the Holder to their alter ego.
The only exceptions to this rule is if the Miraculous is being used by an evil Holder or a good Holder actively wants someone to find out about their identity, therefore nullifying the Perception Filter for only that specific person/people.
If the Miraculous Holder desires they are capable of cutting off the memories of their civilian life from their hero-self.
The exact reason they might do this varies. Maybe they have a bad home life, maybe they don’t want personal feelings to get in the way of their heroics, maybe they just want to see what it’s like.
Regardless, they can do it. But it’s optional though so you don’t have to worry about that.
So yeah! According to Asuki she was trying to make the power dynamic between Miraculous Holder and Kwami to be as close to equal as it could possibly be, the Kwami can’t force the Holder to be their Chosen, the Holder can’t forcibly transform, and neither can force a takeover via the Tag-Team function.
What are your thoughts on this?
