The Raging Wrath Of The Lagomorph
both taylor swift and sarah j maas come from the same school of plausible deniability, and are two examples of some of the best marketing strategies to build a persona ever, you will never catch them taking a wrong step because they never explicitly say anything, they dont engage and they act like mirrors for their fans
the most basic example is how sarah j maas never writes racially diverse characters, theyre always ambiguous, sure she sprinkles some vague clues about "tawny skin" or "almond eyes", does that mean theyre non white? sure why not, but she'll never explicitly say so, what would she say if confronted with it, that literature doesnt need to be explicit on all its ways, or that its up to the readers, which serves her as a perfect excuse when she comits a wrongdoing like making a *supposedly* asian lady turn into a dragon or a *supposedly* black woman kill herself for the white mc character arch (but they arent quite said to be poc are they?) so she'll keep doing the same thing because her books will sell anyways as long as they carry her name
wow can't believe I've never been wrong about anything ever, so now the billionaire woman who's grown up rich, who's a country singer in its origins, who's never pronounced her standing on any social or political issue ever, she now has an openly MAGA fiance and you're all surprised. And yet you'll still see most of her fanbase defend her or ignore this because she's been so smart at crafting a mirror-like image of who she is that you think she's you, or your sister or your friend or whatever, so whatever you feel is good and correct and nice she will reflect it rights back at you, in reality you truly know nothing of who this woman is because you don't know what she believes in.
this isn't pointed only at Taylor, there's a lot of high end celebs who choose this vague, non earthly, ethereal and chill persona to approach their fans, keep defending your faves all you want but the truth is that not taking a stance is a stance on itself regardless of what these people's marketing schemes believe

why am I seeing takes about wwdits season 6 abandoning the nandor/guillermo relationship and leaving all the characters unchanged I am going insane I know this is the autism website but because someone on TV SAYS something DOES NOT MEAN IT IS TRUE.
please! understand! the point of tv is that itβs a visual medium. this means you can WATCH CHARACTERS LIE. Literally half the point of tv is observing the gap between what a character says and what they do.
yes of course the finale said that nothing changes. thatβs a joke. because you can see with your eyes that things have changed. two entire characters have been added to the vamily, one of whom (the monster) is the product of laszloβs successful life-creation experiment. a thing he thought heβd never do!! colin is genuinely their friend/son/polycule member now. nadja and laszloβs relationship is much stronger. Guillermo isnβt just the familiar any more! heβs an equal part of the group!
If you are automatically believing things said by characters WHO ARE CANONICALLY LIARS, after six seasons of watching them lie to themselves and everyone else, then they did it. they hypnotised you! Have you believed them all along? Did you really think Nandor was in love with Gail? Did you think Jeff was Nadjaβs true love? Oh my god did you believe Nandor when he told you he didnβt care about Guillermo???? Maybe 1/4 of all lines delivered to the cameras on wwdits have even been slightly true! Most are straight bullshiiiit.
For me, that was the point of the finale: the show saying as clearly as it ever says anything that nothing weβve been watching is emotionally real. I do have issues with the way Paul Simms storytells - I think heβs got a bit of an annoying obsession with the idea that common plots, and especially common romance plots, are cliches and thus not worth reproducing. Which I disagree with! But the finale is absolutely tonally connected to what has gone before, and totally makes sense for the show.
I think the finale breaks the fourth wall in a really nice way (for the show) because it is finally made so obvious that the documentary weβve been watching (which is NOT the same thing as the real life of the characters) has never actually let us see what they do in the shadows. That will always be beyond us, in the way Nandorβs lair is beyond us. We donβt get to go there, we donβt get to see it, but we finally do know absolutely clearly that Nandor and Guillermo have been holding back on us up to this point because it exists and they head down there together. I think itβs a valid reading of what is visually on screen in the final episode to conclude that they have been having a secret relationship, one that will continue after the show is over.
And that, for me, is why I ended up feeling satisfied by the end of season 6: because I think the end of the documentary frees the characters in a way they havenβt been free for six years. They are no longer performing for the cameras. They can move forward and move on and move beyond the roles they have on the show. Theyβll still be the same shithead dumbass goofballs, the shape of their lives probably wonβt massively change, but they wonβt be watched by us any more. They wonβt have to second-guess themselves. And I like that as an ending for them! I like knowing that theyβre unknowable to me, and happy in a way I donβt get to see. I can obviously imagine what I think happens, but I wonβt ever get to know that for sure. And I also wonβt ever get to know how much of the show I watched for six years was actually true!
Itβs meta! Itβs kind of ridiculous! I donβt know if itβs totally successful! But I think thatβs what the writers were trying to do. And to let your mind accept that you just have to stop believing anything the vamily have directly told you. Free your mind from listening to them! They are bullshit artists! They have been trying to trick you! Because this is TV and on TV people lie. Look at what they have been doing, not what theyβve been saying and the story becomes very different and much more satisfying.
imagine being a Korean person awake at like one in the morning trying to accept that the president of South Korea actually just tried to go full dictatorship by way of an emergency martial law because he was basically having a political temper tantrum and every agency and corporation in the country is all hands on deck, code red mode on everything and the military is being deployed and then the assembly revokes the martial law and then the president is like lol nevermind and now you have to get ready to work at your shitty job on a Wednesday
can americans in the notes please stop comparing this to trump. we're not america. yoon seok-yeol isn't donald trump. this is a national emergency in south korea that has nothing to do with american politics. stop making everything about you for once.
anyway just so you know many Korean citizens were not sitting still at home they threw on their winter coats (our winters are very cold) and got to the parliament building however they could (there was a traffic jam, so people got out of the taxis to ride bikes) to go physically stand in front of guns
(some background: it wasn't 30 years ago that the military of a dictatorship massacred protesting civilians by railgunning them from tanks and helicopters. not only is the democratic revolution still in living memory, but there was also a popular movie this year about the military coup. Han Kang became a nobel laureate this October for writing about the people who died in those protests.)
the special ops team's guns on the night of were loaded with rubbers, but there were reports that real bullets had been handed out ready to be used if the order came down (south korea bans the use of guns. it is also treason if you fire at parliament.)
what helped was the speed with which people rushed to take action against this middle-of-the-night onslaught. soldiers had been sent to politicians' homes to arrest them before they could gather in assembly, but the politicians had already headed to parliament for an emergency meeting.
a lot more Koreans were tracking the situation via social media, news reports, radio channels, and personal streamings. night shift workers at parliament barricaded the doors. the scrutiny and pressure put on the military troops attacking parliament was not insignificant. it bought us the ten minutes required for parliament to slapdash a martial law cancellation motion and vote on it, even as the strike team was breaking the windows and pushing in to the assembly hall.
this could all have gone really fucking wrong. we were saved by every civilian who put themselves in front of gunmen (including disabled human rights protestors), every councilor who jumped a wall to go vote, every reporter who shared breaking news on-site, every single audience member of live streams and social media, every police or soldier who tried not to escalate violence against civilians.
this was very much a group effort. and we were very lucky it didn't go sideways, but at the same time, it had nothing to do with luck.

Favorite bit of adventurers bible lore is that Marcille was a researcher developing new healing magic before she joined the party but then learned all the offensive spells we see her use in a single day. Insane behavior. Imagine knowing the top med student in the country and one day she drops out of her cancer research program and perfects the art of making pipe bombs in 24 hours.
