It is extremely sad what happened to Brianna, but the fact people have jumped on saying she was killed because she was trans without a released statement of evidence is just feeding the fear-mongering machine.
Two 15-year-olds have been charged. Could it be transphobic related? We don't know that yet. Currently, the UK (England and Wales specifically) reports a knife crime involving young people every few months or so. Last year 3,490 10-17 year olds were charged with a knife crime offence.
In England and Wales, 679 homicides were recorded last year (ending June 2022). 7/10 were male (72%), 3/10 female (28%). 91% of male murders were committed by a male, and 95% of female murders were committed by a male. 38% of murders was due to knife crime or a sharp object.
Knives and sharp objects were used in 75% of teenage murders. In the last 12 months, in England, 51 teenagers were murdered due to knife crime or a sharp object.
This is 1 incident out of 679. 1/ 282 for knife crime, and 1/51 amongst young people. The problem is knife crime. We need to look at why some young people think it's okay to just attack someone they don't like. The societal issue here is more than a hatred towards trans people.
