So the new puritan Tumblr finally flagged me for adult content :D and it was this one :| Now, admittedly, this is an intentionally visceral draring, but my question is: What about it is not appropriate for the God-fearing Baptist children that are currently Tumblr's target audience?

On Saturday, June 3rd, I’ll be part of a show at Machine House Brewery celebrating the reissue of Marc Barreca’s 1983 electronic album Music Works for Industry. RVNG Intl. is creating new pressings of obscure electronic albums, while curating visual artists to create work inspired by the music, and Seattle interdisciplinary artist Satpreet Kahlon and I were each selected to create work in response to Music Works for Industry. I’ll be debuting two large-scale original drawings along with some animation, and the show will feature live performances by Marc Barreca, Rosen, and Jed Bindeman. Swing by if you can! Ran across this gem from way back with me and Tom Dougherty in the corner at Cafe Racer for "Jazz Night."

Though I know I shouldn't have, I decided to spend some of my time laid up on a modular form for Blobber's head. Each globule that composes Blobber's body mass will connect with every other with the same prefix. One day I'll stop coding.

I was a bit disappointed when I discovered a while back @staff doesn't have an equivalent to "Turn off retweets." But I found a workaround:

div.is_reblog { display: none; }

The drawback being 1. it only guarantees the posts you see are definitely from the blogs you follow, not necessarily their own material and 2. it’s just CSS -- you will occasionally go through several extremely short or completely blank dashboard pages. But it depends how you feel about half measures in these circumstances. I suppose the alternatives are campaign hard to add a “Turn off reblog” option or just quit Tumblr. But I tend to be more libertarian when it comes to UX; I got mine I’m fine.

Lava Explains the Most Important Element in Comedy

Re-post of Lava's comedic advice. The original gimmick was that I was posting a gif that didn't loop, and never had a frame where Lava said "Timing," leaving the viewer to sit there reloading and constantly expecting "Timing" until they finally gave up/went mad. I eventually realized a few issues with this plot:

Practical jokes are stupid and annoying.

Some people don't already know that timing is the secret to good comedic delivery.

While desktop Tumblr seems to have no problem playing a gif just once, mobile Tumblr seems to loop them automatically, regardless.

Even when it did load right, it still might skip a few frames, and consequently dialog, and more importantly motion. Or it might load before the viewer had a chance to scroll to it, just showing an still of Lava raising his finger. This all kind of defeats the purpose of showing off my now-functioning Lava model.

Anyway, here he is again, with (I hope) a significantly less annoying approach to the timing gag. Thanks.
