As someone who is now closer to 30, how do you find friends in Fandom who are closer to your age? It's not always easy to discern who's really young and while I don't mind chatting with people of any age I would prefer to have fandom friends closer to my age in general.

Hi! Sorry for such a delayed response.

I don't really have a great answer for you - as most of my friends I've kind of tripped over along my journey through fandom.

I think just talking with people gets you a sense of how old they are. Also, younger people have a tendency to put their age on their blogs more often than older people, i've noticed. And I know us older folks (I'm not even old I can't believe I have to qualify that) tend to be in our own circle. Most of who I follow and converse with are 30+, so I recommend just pulling up a chair and start talking!

Two J*bitha things I wonder:

1. Is the lack of chemistry…intentional? Like is it an acting choice? If Cole can have chemistry with a typewriter, why does it look like cousins being forced to interact when J*bitha is on screen?

2. I figured out what seeing the takes of J*bitha having problems being all to do with ghosts reminded me of. Y'all remember that episode of Buffy where Spike stirs up trouble between the Scoobies, and when they resolve it they admit that yes, he stirred up some anger, but that was only because there was anger there to be stirred up? That’s J*bitha to me. Sure, the ghosts and the alcohol may have exacerbated the problem, but they didn’t create it. These are organic issues they have that will be there in the ‘vale or the 'dale.

@thecharmedquill I’m tagging you because you wrote such an in-depth post about the whole J*bitha interaction in 6x02 in relation to the extent of the ghosts’ influence on their behavior. I think @thatiranianphantom has a point here (#2). I remember that Buffy episode, too. I’ve watched enough tv-shows and movies (Supernatural, Buffy, Charmed. Not heavier stuff) on the matter to know possessions/infuence from ghosts or other entities, can amplify problems/tensions/feelings, but those problems/tensions/feelings are already there.

Maybe simmering under the surface, but they’re there.

This is why I can’t say 'Tabitha has no responsibility for her actions because she was possessed’ and believe my own words. Do I believe she’d smash the typewriter if she wasn’t possessed/under the ghost’s influence? Not entirely. I’m sure she would never intentionally hurt Jug, of course, with a hammer or with any other weapons. But oh boy, she holds grudges. Yes, I’m sure of that, 100%. Both about him not being over Betty (vomit drafts reading and all the other little things, inlcuded him confirming it) and his career/job that maybe she values less in comparison to her working her ass off at Pop’s all day. Thing is, she knew Jug was a writer. It was one of the first things she learned about him. If she chose to be with him, that’s something she has to accept. I live with a guitar player. I learned to accept the fact that music will always be his first love. Did I suffer about it? Yes, at the very beginning I did. But he was a musician before meeting me and he’ll be a musician even if we should ever break up. He used to tell me “You knew who I was and what I did for a living before we got together, you can’t hold it against me”. At it is so very true! I can’t and I’m not, anymore. We’ve been together for over 7 years and we learned to compromise. Being with someone means coming to terms with things we don’t completely understand/recognize the value of.

I wanted to add that I don’t think it’s necessarily abnormal for a couple to have issues. Every couple has issues!

But J*bitha’s issues seem to be rooted in trust and communication, neither of which they actually resolved. Fundamentally at the end of the episode, they still don’t trust each other and they still don’t communicate well.

Jughead still doesn’t trust her with his drafts. They’ve talked about nothing regarding the issues that brought them to fight in the first place. They’ve plastered over the issues with “our first fight” but not actually resolved or talked about any of the issues that caused those fights. That’s not a good sign for them.

I did not address the 'chemistry’ in my first reblog because there will anons telling me I’m biased because I like Cole. So what if I do like him?

I think he has loads of chemistry with just about anyone. Even carrot-top-Apa, when they gave them decent scenes to shoot together (and the dead deer in 6x01 LOL). So with Erinn and Cole it’s either

#1. they’re not comfortable with one another in real life. It’s hard to imagine because both seem to get along quite well (as far as BTS footage goes), but you never really know, right?

#2. they’re acting weird because they think the script is bonkers and they’re not putting that much effort into it. Which I know is a bit extreme an unprofessional, but there’s a limit to how much you can pretend you believe the lines/actions you’re about to say/do

OR

#3. they’re purposely acting weird. S5b has scene after scene of them being weird: a) the arson-induced kiss b) the duet in the musical episode AND the kiss afterwards 3) the movin in together after said freaking date. Note on the musical reference: Cole doesn’t like to sing, everybody and their mom knows that. But at least, as long as he got to sing with Lili he made it look believable (sue me, I’m still crying over that 'Seventeen’ duet), while in the 'Next to Normal’ duets he looks…out of place (because he is ahah).

ALL THE ABOVE dissertation would lead me to believe that no matter which of the 3 points is believable/reasonable/true, J*bitha is really, truly DOOMED, because the actors struggle to portray a storyline they don’t like/think it’s pure craziness and the writers are intentionally scripting a relationship that doens’t have any real fundament and substance and won’t last.

That’s a great explanation of why the actors might purposely be playing the characters as so awkward around each other.

Maybe the writers/directors are trying to show us they’re doomed from the start. Perhaps that’s why the threw together two characters who clearly lack chemistry – because they want to show that there isn’t a viable partner prospect for Jug outside of Betty. (Not ashamed to admit I’m hoping for this.)

(I don’t think the actors have romantic chemistry, at all, but I do think they used to be able to appear comfortable in the same room.)

I think I figured out what it is that makes the 'chemistry' feel lacking, what makes the relationship seem stale. Music. It's music. There's no sweeping backdrop of a big/bold/romantic song for Jabitha kisses (or whatever couple-y scenes), but there is for Bughead.

Which means, it is very much intentional, that's how it's supposed to seem like. They made it so in post production.

(disclaimers: my memory is toast anyway and I didn't rewatch everything to support my theory, BUT I remember several cool songs for Bughead kisses, and.. I think there was a song for the weird Molotov cocktail -induced one for Jabitha? And it wasn't even that great.)

/edit Also, Bughead have a theme of their own, and every time it plays, it reminds the audience of their whole story and feelings. I don't think there is one for Jabitha?

Cole never opened his mouth to kiss Lili, at least in later seasons. That’s probably why Barchie seems so much hotter lol.

Are you all just bored? Have you finally accepted that your ship is crap? Because the things you BA have come to my ask box the last couple of days is pathetic. They had one scene in the shower, wow okay congratulations. If you think the table scene was hot I just laugh at you.

You know what else you all don't have, an returned I love you, don't have respect from the male side of the relationship towards his partner. I mean basically to Archie Betty is just a baby making machine there for whenever he wants. Heaven forbid she have some thoughts or concerns of her own about having kids, and how dare she suggest something so gross as adoption? If it doesn't come from Archie's seed it just isn't good enough for him. How dare she challenge Arche to his crown of Maple King, when she should just stay in the kitchen and only worry about Archie's problems. Man what a great guy and what a great relationship.

So sorry I will take my closed mouth kisses (as you say) and great chemistry ship where both people in the relationship respect and love each other. I will take my ship where there is trust to be open to the darkest parts of each person and not hide it because you have idealistic childhood views of each other. I will take my ship where not everything has to be about when we were little. And I will defenityly take my ship where they are both in love with each other and are not just waiting until the other option they really love is available.

One day you all will figure out that if they have to make Veronica not available for Archie to be interested and then completely change everything about Betty's character for her to be interested it isn't a good relationship.

So, I’m re-watching Glee because that’s a thing these days, and I’m looking at the guy who plays the head Warbler in Season 6 and I start wondering who he is. So I go googling and find out his name is Myko Olivier, and I’m looking at pictures of him and thinking, “Boy, he looks like...” and then I find this.

Cause I'm pretty sure I read that he's been Darren's stand in for forever. That'd explain why he looks like Darren. Not an accident, he was probably chosen for that reason.
