The Ancient One

I’ve always had a soft spot for Norwegian folklore, and this idea had been living in my head for a while.

I wanted this piece to feel less like a monster fight and more like the moment you realise you’ve stumbled across something impossibly ancient.

I also took the opportunity to experiment with a more painterly style than usual, and I had an absolute blast painting it.

Fun detail: Sam and Dean are watching the creatures hidden among the trees… while Cas is the only one who’s noticed The Ancient One.

the thing about Faith is they literally heal Dean to humiliate him. his determined skepticism and disdain is a pronounced FEAR RESPONSE to the concept of God because of course concepts like 'hope' and 'faith' are fucking scary! faith makes you vulnerable. Here’s a little help OP:

Cas is a seraph. In the bible, ‘seraphim’ translates directly to ‘fiery serpent.’ When seraphim are described, it comes out crazy, but only becase biblical authors are using poetic terms that people back then would have understood and interpreted- but we can’t. That ‘flaming weel, multiple eye’ thing? He’s describing a giant, winged snake. In the temple of isaiah, he sees serpents with wings and legs. In the Garden Of Eden, a ‘serpent’ speaks to eve, and is then cursed to slither on his belly- implying he had other limbs beforehand. Seraphim look like dragons. ‘Fiery serpents.’ Castiel’s true form looks like a dragon. A dragon the size of the chrysler building.
