Chapter 2 | Abnormal Days | Here We Go Again | Tohru (ATTN: Haku)
Haku wasn’t expecting the bump, so the sudden force, albeit small, was enough to catch him off guard, and throw him off balance. With a soft grunt, he stumbled ever so slightly, before be managed to catch himself. Blinking in surprise, dark and tired eyes moved to look at the person who had bumped into him.
“Hm? Oh. S’cool.”
If Haku didn’t get upset at a punch to the face, he was hardly going to bat an eyelash at someone accidentally bumping into him in a still rather crowded area. This was… Tohru? He remembered the name from trial, when he did nothing but listen and groan over yeehaws.
He turned a bit more to face his company properly.
“Yeah, I’m Hhhhaku.” Haku don’t be rude. “An’ you’re Tohru, yeah? I remember you from las’ trial.”
There was a slight pause, and Haku glanced back over towards the body, flattening his lips a bit as he let his hands rest in his pockets.
“Mmm, kinda sucks. I didn’t even get to know the kid’s name before this.”
Aww, how sweet, Haku, actually showing regret towards–
“An’ they made a mess of the spring.”
Thanks.
The edges of Tohru’s visibly lips tugged down at the light teasing, but he bit back whatever remark was sitting on his tongue. Instead, he waited a tick for the look on his face to go away, and then continued the conversation.
“Yeah, I’m Tohru.”
It was a laconic response that didn’t leave much else on the topic. Instead, his eyes switched focus to where the body still lay inanimate on the shore as he thought about what Haku just said about them.
Had they ever even introduced themselves? If they ever did, it just completely escaped Tohru’s memory. The only words Tohru could remember exchanging with them were a few unpleasant remarks. Perhaps not a great impression left upon them, but at least it was shallow.
“Yeah...”
It was also surreal to think that just a few days ago, he had been doing his laundry here. God, where was he going to do it now? Could he come back without associating it with what still lay at the shore?
“I guess there’s still the waterfall not far from here, though.”
He said that more to himself in response to his own thoughts, but it vaguely registered that it was probably not a great thing to say with the circumstances being as they were.
“Say, uh, are you going to stick around here for long?”
Tohru’s hand reached behind to gently scratch at his own neck.
“I actually had a reason to just suddenly talking to you, but honestly it’s probably several kinds of inappropriate considering everything going on.”
He was laughing tensely at his own words, but his lips curled a bit as he paused to think about what to say next.
“Just not sure when I’ll get the next chance to give you it, if I even do get a chance.”
Whatever that implied.
