how to replace a 1998 furby’s eyelashes
there’s an awful lot of furby tutorials on the internet but i haven’t seen any yet for eyelashes specifically and it’s something that took me a few tries to get right, so hopefully this helps someone out! also i apologize for the photo quality, i had to retake several after i was already done but they should still be easy enough to follow
materials: screwdriver, false eyelashes, scotch tape, scissors, tweezers, quick-dry glue
step 1: skin your furby and remove its shell. plenty of people online have already taught you how to do this much better than i ever could
step 2: remove the topmost screw on the back of your furby, and the one on its faceplate. on this one it was on the left, but its location varies. if it’s below the beak you may need to unscrew the speaker in order to get to it
step 3: using a small screwdriver or a toothpick, gently push out the rod holding the eyes and eyelids in place
step 4: gently pull the faceplate forward until you’re able to remove the eyes and eyelids. be careful not to pull out any part of the light sensor
step 5: i wasn’t able to get pictures for this one because they were already long gone, but if you need to remove the old eyelashes just gently pull up from one end of the glued area. by now the glue is so old and dry that it should come up easily
step 6: pull out your false eyelashes. i’m using these rainbow tinsel ones i got from party city
step 7: stick a piece of scotch tape on the back of the eyelashes, about half a centimeter below the glue strip (is that what it’s called? the little strip of fabric you use to glue them on. idk)
step 8: cut off the excess tape and the glue strip. the issue with the strip is that it’s too raised, so if you leave it on your furby won’t be able to move their eyelids properly
step 9: cut the eyelashes in half and use a pair of tweezers to remove any loose ends
step 10: apply a thin coat of quick-dry glue to the front of the eyelashes and stick them in place. i use latex-based craft glue, but super glue will also work
step 10: repeat steps 7-10 with the second eyelash and layer it over top of the first one. leave the glue to dry for at least an hour
step 11: reassemble your furby and enjoy their fancy new peepers
