This Fickle Thing

A rainbow scaled salmon

Sliding effortlessly up the stream

It evades my every grasp

I stick my hands into water from thawed glaciers

I envision sinking my fangs into blood about to fail (just like mine)

The stars stare down watching my revel

Instead

The ocean roils

Hurls a wave that will rush the stream

Skipping along the salmon

Grinning at me with golden eyes

Then comes the rain
