She is me. I am her.
gosh but like we spent hundreds of years looking up at the stars and wondering āis there anybody out thereā and hoping and guessing and imagining
because we as a species were so lonely and we wanted friends so bad, we wanted to meet other species and we wanted to talk to them and we wanted to learn from them and to stop being the only people in the universe
and we started realizing that things were maybe not going so good for usā we got scared that we were going to blow each other up, we got scared that we were going to break our planet permanently, we got scared that in a hundred years we were all going to be dead and gone and even if there were other people out there, weād never get to meet them
and then
we built robots?
and we gave them names and we gave them brains made out of silicon and we pretended they were people and we told them hey you wanna go exploring, and of course they did, because we had made them in our own image
and maybe in a hundred years we wonāt be around any more, maybe yeah the planet will be a mess and weāll all be dead, and if other people come from the stars we wonāt be around to meet them and say hi! how are you! weāre people, too! youāre not alone any more!, maybe weāll be gone
but we built robots, who have beat-up hulls and metal brains, and who have names; and if the other people come and say, who were these people? what were they like?
the robots can say, when they made us, they called us discovery; they called us curiosity; they called us explorer; they called us spirit. they must have thought that was important.
and they told us to tell you hello.
So, I have to say something.Ā
This is my favorite post on this website.Ā
Iāve seen this post in screenshots before, and the first time I read it, I cried. Just sat there with tears running down my face.Ā
Because this, right here, is the best of us, we humans. That we hope, and dream of the stars, and we donāt want to be alone. That this is the best of our technology, not Terminators and Skynet, but our friends, our companions, our legacy. Our message to the stars.Ā
Iām flat out delighted, and maybe even a little honored, that I get to reblog this.
Sometimes I look through old archives of the internet and wonder just how much has been lost. If what we have collectively preserved publicly is so massive, how much art has been left to fall between the gaps in the records. What has been lost to time, disintegrated by the disinterest of people. I mean, sure, maybe a lot of it was useless to most, but if even one percentage of the information that has been lost was valuable, then humanity has suffered greatly. I find myself remembering a time I walked through a pine forest, and seeing the various bits of plastic and waste left along the pathways and even taking up the hidden corners as well. Much like the idea of lost history, most of this stuff is discarded because of disinterest or inconvenience/laziness. But when I looked hard, I found things I wished I could use, if only time had not eroded them and left them beyond repair. An old car, with a partially intact engine decomposed by rust. A wooden pole, half eaten by the water it sat in. The fallen branches, however, were still usable. The vines and the bushes still lived on. Despite all that is lost, life continues to push forward towards its own inevitable demise. The feeling this leaves me with is a wistful sadness, a sort of soul-twisting, stomach clenching sense of dissonance. Despite all this, I continue on, I do not stop, marching in time with the heart that will eventually fail. Using the legs which will inevitably falter. Breathing with lungs that will collapse. Thinking with a brain that will simply not last. And yet, I still march. Maybe I am just like a discarded piece of plastic, incompatible with my surroundings, and yet refusing to deteriorate because of my design.
I do often think about how the origin of āhe would not fucking say thatā was in reference to a post which depicted Cartman SouthPark responding politely when asked for his pronouns
meme phrases are so mobile and versatile and that's really really beautiful but i'm always thinking about the first "she x on my y til i z" being "she ebbin on my neezer til i scrooge" and the first "fork found in kitchen" coming from a tweet about sehun from exo being spotted at a gay bar. like sometimes you just utterly nail it the very first time and no variation of the joke is going to be better.
EXACTLY.

Situation that happened in class this semester that was so funny I immediately sketched it out in my notes
everything about the bathroom scene murders me. shane practically running from the awards ceremony trying to get as far away as he can so he can have his Big Feelings alone. ilya arriving just seconds later so you KNOW he was hot on shane's heels even if he's trying to act all casual about it like what are the chances i just sauntered into the same faraway bathroom. shane's FACE when he's looking at ilya waiting to see what ilya's going to say to him and you can just SEE the longing and confusion and hurt all over his expression. and then ilya LAUGHING, obviously trying to break the tension and make it just part of their jokey fuck-you bros bantering routine, giving shane an out (we don't have to get serious, we don't have to talk about it, we can just let the fact that i went radio silent and ignored you for six months slide), and shane refusing to take the out!! with TEARS in his EYES!!! demanding to know what ilya wants!!! and ilya being like ok i'll make it about sex that's safe. suck my dick. except you can see the second he registers that he's pushed shane too far and is in danger of losing him for good and then he pushes off the wall and closes the distance between them and grabs shane's jaw (you're MINE this is how I touch you you're mine you're MINE). and i love how the d/s text of the scene (ilya holding shane's face and making him say please) barely conceals the emotional subtext! the please isn't about shane wanting ilya to suck his dick!!! it's please see me, please want me, please don't ghost me, please need this like i do. please. it KILLS ME!!!! and then shane wants to be kissed sooooooo bad he's turning his face up towards him waiting and ilya doesn't kiss himmmmm he doesn't kiss him!!!! we didn't even kiss wahhhh but ilya lets him lean against him and take the wordless comfort he needs!!! and then they kinda find their footing again because shane got what he needed, sort of, or he got what ilya could give him and heās decided to take it. the whole part afterwards wahhh where they're joking about the new yorker being boring (they're right) and shane's softened a little but his body language is still so touch me please hold me pleasepleaseplease let me lean on you hold me hold me hold me hold me will you just hold me and then finally ilya kisses him instead of telling shane what he's going to do with him because he can't say what he really wants to do (have him. hold him. keep him). SORRY to be such a HUGE SAP about it but i'm PASSIONATELY INTO IT
terrified of unwittingly enjoying the shadows in the cave. the song you didn't know was a cover. the movie you didn't realize was a parody. the game you never knew was a bootleg port. and then even after you find out, there's something in you that still likes the shadow better than the real thing
