Gonna make some kind of veg-heavy chili con carne casserole with polenta studded with grilled corn, and a layer of sliced potatoes on top. Sort of like a tamale-inspired casserole but with sliced potatoes because I’ve got some hanging around
Maybe I’ll serve it with a little side salad of Spanish onions and tomatoes and coriander.
Didn’t like stomp clap when it first came out, but now I find it so endearing and pleasant to listen to. I guess that’s the millennial hope nostalgia or whatever they’re calling it.
The hardest thing about engagement ring shopping is my desire to put function over form.
I’m like ‘well I’m a notorious heavy-handed klutz so I need a bezel-set ring’ but that just! Isn’t! As! Nice!
The main unfeminist beauty behaviour I participate in is skincare.
I do have a multi-step routine. I oil cleanse, I use mild chemical exfoliants, vitamin c, over the counter retinoids and topical peptides, I have three face moisturisers with different purposes. I have a variety of cosmetically elegant sunscreens that I wear each day because I don’t want to get melanoma.
I acknowledge that men don’t put in this effort, and that it’s costing me money (although I don’t buy expensive products) and about 10-15 minutes of time per day. I do it because my skin is one of my best features, I’m vain about it and I enjoy going about the world bare-faced and knowing my skin itself looks particularly nice. I do have ‘good genetics’ when it comes to skin (very soft, no tendency to hyperpigmentation and my Nan didn’t get many wrinkles), but I definitely optimise what I was born with. I care about it in a way I never have about my nails/makeup/hair/clothes. I would never get any cosmetic procedures whatsoever, but I do this.
What are your thoughts and feelings on moisturizing? Should it be subject to criticisms from radfems?
I always thought that only soap and moisturizer are really necessary. Soap to keep you clean and stink free, and moisturizer to keep you from itching / cracking / peeling / generally feeling unpleasant from dry skin.
However, I recently saw someone say a "hot take" that most lotions and moisturizers are just scams, all they do is evaporate and leave a residue on your skin to trick you into believing it moisturized you and did something.
I'm feeling skeptical of this. I live in a very cold and dry climate, so my skin cracks and bleeds from dryness if I don't moisturize. But I'm wondering if maybe there might be some weight to this, with some moisturizers it really does feel like they don't do anything, so this might be true at least for cheaper moisturizers maybe.

if you have dry skin sure but no need to spend $40 on it. its like buying tums in my opinion you use it when you need it to solve a problem

If I don't put lotion on my face at least every second day, my face will start to peel and crack allll on its own, and it will itch horribly. I tried to ignore it for years, but that's just what it does. Using lotion improved my quality of life

I think my young cousin is influenced by looksmaxxing culture because his display pictures tend to be of him in like idk some sort of male sport leotard (wrestling? Rowing? Bodybuilding?) with a big belt, looking angry and emphasising his muscles and very heavy browbone.
Just finished reading The Mercy Step and gosh it was compelling, absolutely beautiful. Hope it wins the women’s prize this year. I think The Benefactors and The Others also should have been shortlisted but they’re out of contention.
Frankly, if Heart The Lover wins, I’ll eat my hat. It’s such a shithouse book and it did NOT deserve its place on the shortlist.
