@mostlyharmlessgaming
lol log in here for the first time in forever to find one of my Valin/Theron SWTOR screencap spams has been flagged by tumblr as NSFW? Seriously?
“You’ll be careful out there, right?” “Of course.” “You’re a terrible liar.”
Logged into the wrong blog, so here, have a post.
So new blog is a go. After consideration and talking it over with friends, I decided not to full out delete this one (mostly because of all the writing I did directly into the tumblr window during the swtor-tumblr~guild days whups.)
I’ll still be checking in on this account for the next few days, but otherwise this is goodbye! Or well see you around. Hurrah.
So! I’m opening three commission slots this week.
All of my examples + prices + general info are here in this post. Send me an ask or email me if you’d like to take a slot, and I’ll update this space if/when they’re all gone. :>

My choice is what matters.
For everyone who hesitates to comment on a fic
Today I got a reply to a comment saying that the author had been so discouraged by the lack of response on the last two chapters that they had decided not to finish it, but that they had changed their mind and were now thinking of finishing. Just because I took 30 seconds to comment on each chapter.
It doesn’t matter if the fic is years old
It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what to say (“I loved this” is always music to an author’s ears, no matter how many times we hear it)
The author will not think you’re a creeper if you’re commenting on every single one of their fics
The author WILL cuddle your comments close to their hearts like the precious gems that they are, even if they’re only one word.
Comments and feedback matter. I’ve written in fandoms and for pairings that have very active, vocal fans who comment a lot, and I’ve written for ships that are not terribly popular and don’t get much reaction. The difference in my attitude is incredible.
Your feedback matters to authors. Click the kudos button, but please, take the time to leave a comment. Even if it’s just one word. If you like the writing and want to see more, let the author know

yes yes yes yes yes yes
Comments are very motivational.
Kudos is wonderful and I want to thank everyone who’s ever clicked that little heart on AO3 but I have to admit, getting a comment would be even nicer :)
I live for comments. Every time I get one, my confidence and happiness goes through the roof. As an amateur writer, knowing that someone out there reads and likes my stuff - and likes it enough to spend time writing in response - is probably the greatest feeling in the world.
I look at ever single reblog to see if they put tags saying they like it, it honestly means so much to get something saying you enjoyed & if you say it directly to me I will legit thankyou so many times bc it honestly keeps me going
Seriously. Comments make me so happy. I literally re-read tags and comments to motivate myself when writing.
Seriously. I got 6 comments on my fic today and I literally felt so goddamn inspired to write even more fic. Someone even offered to BETA FOR ME and I was like HELL YEAH I will roll out more longfic just for feedback fam.
Don’t hesitate to comment y’all. We love that shit.
tag yourself. I’m naive wanderer!

Cullen was trying to put his life back together. Dorian was following a mystery halfway around the world. Ian? Ian just wanted to find his brother.
Life has a funny way of defying expectations and bringing people together. Sometimes the things you find are the things you aren’t looking looking for.
Chapter Seven: In Hushed Whispers Part 1 or: Dorian makes three dramatic entrances, Ian bonds with their newest stray over shared past mistakes, and Cullen, perhaps has a bit of a crush.

@agent-gwendolyn said: never had any of the tabletop rpg handbooks in my hand, but where does it say that it isn’t?
If that’s your interpretation, you do you. I just don’t know why some people think it’s actually set in stone that it absolutely is - and try to enforce that. I haven’t seen anything in the source material that suggests it’s a patriarchal society.
fan interpretation is one thing, but I can see how people might get that idea from the concept of “Ruling Families,” given that family units are often patriarchal, and if the Ruling Families are the model of Chiss culture and society, it would therefore follow that their society is patriarchal. on the other hand, it’s just as possible and valid to interpret family units as matriarchal, or neither, etc., thus changing the view of the extrapolated society (I personally ascribe to the idea that as a society, they are neither patriarchal nor matriarchal, instead being based in family units, as they are in most other places, formed of adaptive meritocracy)
I’ve also always extrapolated that it’s more of a ‘best person for the job’ kind of deal, given that we have more than just men in leadership positions in the source material.
As a society, they straddle a strange and often conflicting line between respecting ceremony and tradition, and the drive for efficiency- but misogyny doesn’t appear to be among their fervently held traditions.
Xenophobia, species-supremacy complexes, extreme isolationist tendencies? Absolutely. They’re a flawed people with many myopic viewpoints. I just see no evidence of them applying to their women.
The notion that a bloodline is carried down the male line is purely a social construct, not a biological one. I don’t see any reason why they’d naturally fall into having a man at the head of every family for the sake of passing down a pedigree as often happens in societies here, especially as merit adoptives can hold great value, and they aren’t genetically related to the ‘ancestors’ of the house.
But, that’s just my take on it. If people want to read it as their family units being identical in structure to many real-world societies, they’re welcome to it, even if I don’t personally get it- so long as it isn’t pushed as canon.
I’m more or less on this boat. I always believed it was a “Who was best for the job” sort of deal and nothing more. The Chiss seem far too intelligent to hold misogynistic ideals or to stunt their efficiency solely based on an individual’s gender.
But as Cyan says, people are absolutely welcome to their own interpretations because to be frank, there’s no actual canon about any of it. Technically the Chiss aren’t even actual canon right now as far as I’m aware.
Forcing your fanon onto others as though it’s fact is where I’ll draw my line. If you want to believe that Chiss are Patriarchal, that’s cool. I can work with that sort of thing and have my characters treat it as just that House being Patriarchal. As long as you don’t force onto me that your way is the right way, because I’ll never do the same in return.
I personally love the fact that it seems so open because it leaves room for a lot of Houses to operate differently based on every player’s personal views. I personally want to have a more Matriarchal structure for my Chiss’ House. Not because I personally believe Chiss are like that, but because that is how my character feels.
Plus girl power, yo.
Yup. Big difference between ‘this particular house has these traditions’ and ‘this is how the entirety of Chiss society functions, do it my way’. Without the evidence of their society particularly favouring any gender, I prefer to leave it open ended, to the variation of each house. Saying their entire society is male governed, no ifs or buts, literally cuts the scope of potential in half.
Without doubt, there will be different views, different cultures, different microcosms of power structure within their society. If people desperately want to have their house structured one way or another, there’s room for that- but then espousing it as the rule across the board makes it extremely difficult to play in the same sandbox as them.
Exactly the same thing applies to the Mando community, if I can take a tangent. There are some who get so het-up over their particular brand of clan structure and motivation being the de-facto society structure, then attack others who don’t adhere. Same sort of thing: ‘my clan are crusaders’ vs ‘all Mandos are crusaders’. Big difference.
Really, each clan is bound to be different, and SWTOR is set at a time of great change for the clans. It’s totally realistic that there are clans of all sorts of political and spiritual persuasions existing together in this timeframe. Some IC tension between them is natural, and adds a little realism. OOC attacks for it are not okay.
