calling ppl "larpers" to insinuate theyre fake fans of smth/poorly pretending to be smth is so fucking stupid cuz. tell me u have never met a real LARPer without saying u have never met a real LARPer. those guys care. they are fucking locked in dude. like LARP is a lifestyle its a commitment they care so much. they're not fake nerds either like fake nerds just repost LOTR gifsets and talk about how nerdy they are for being into like, fucking batman and stuff. LARPers know their shit. they read the whole Silmarillion. they know who Ambush Bug is. like get LARP's name out of your fucking mouth

The real absurdity of using "larper" as a synonym for "poser" or "phony" is the same absurdity that makes most lame comedy bits about D&D (or larp) fall flat. Larpers aren't trying to fool anyone, but a phony explicitly is.
If you walk into a larp in progress as a non-player, the larpers don't keep acting in-character. They'll say things like "are you looking for someone? We're kind of in the middle of something" or "we've booked this venue for a private event, are you lost?"
Larping is a form of play, and play only happens between willing participants. Tackling someone on the sidewalk who happens to be holding a rugby ball wouldn't be playing rugby, it would be assault. Behaving like something you aren't in everyday life isn't larping, it's deception.
