Off the coast of Australia Macroctopus caught the shark, wrapped all its tentacles around it and soon released it. Most likely, he scraped all the parasites off her.
I saw this video and thought maybe the octopus just gave up on eating a shark, but, that shark was absolutely doomed if that's what the octopus really intended. I can't find anything about them eating parasites, but it's something they could certainly figure out how to do anyway.
If it's not trying to eat the shark OR eat parasites, the third possibility is that grabbing and releasing a shark is fun and amusing to it, which is how captive octopuses already treat toy boats.

Did anyone else happen to see @shalesifters poll on the landmasses (followed by the reblog of the mollusc)? I think that I was simply born in the wrong generation, that I should have been able to experience the joys of being a land-dweller.
