as a person of color it’s so important to me that miles looked at hobie—rule-breaking, conflict-provoking, dark-humored hobie—and couldn’t help but call him cool, that pavitr and gwen see him as a reliable dude when adults call him a “piece of work”. we see him just fuck around and cause trouble and joke about capitalism and silently advise miles to be skeptical about authority.

idk like its easy to have another charming (usually white) rebel without a cause who stirs the pot for shits and giggles with a smug grin on his face to match his devil may care attitude, that the kind and humble protag shrugs off in his quest to seek approval from authority. but then instead we get teens from marginalized identities looking up to a young black man who challenges them to think about their actions carefully and question what they know, who jokes about things that other people would politely grimace at in response to, who makes adults uncomfortable. i can think of some people in my life like him—those older kids whom i was told were troublemakers, whom adults told me to ignore, to be scared of, to reject, yet were the ones who gave me wisdom and whom i ended up looking up to and whom i bitched about colony and homophobia and fascism with.

and it isn’t just hobie and his throwaway lines barbed with criticism and discontent, it’s also when gwen says “can you stop being a cop for once”, it’s also when pavitr says “this is where the british stole all our stuff”, it’s that level of awareness of unfairness and injustice in the world they live in and as kids they just have to passively accept the status quo and kick the dirt and angstily, cynically point at injustice with a half-cocked smile of irony. of course young vigilantes would say shit like that. of course young vigilantes would have blm pins and trans lives matter flags and jokes about colony and capitalism. of course kids like me would understand that. of course kids like me would look at hobie and say he’s one cool fucking dude.

Y’all get mad at Jessica - the black Woman doing her job and trying to hold the multiverse together so her baby can have a universe to live in more than y’all blame Peter, the whites man who knew and trained Miles and still chose to believe he was an anomaly.

Like Peter TAUGHT Miles how to swing and he still was like ‘oh yeah miguel that makes sense yeah miles isn’t suppose to be spiderman’ HOW

There needs to be a breakdown of Jessica's mentoring style vs Peter's mentoring style and how it reflects on Gwen and Miles

Because Jessica allowed Gwen to make mistakes. She guided her, but she wasn't going to hold her hand. She told her what she needed to do, she'd check in on her, but she trusted Gwen to be honest. She's so much more hands off of Gwen because she deadass be treating her like an adult which is funny cause thats what black moms be doing

Jessica absolutely seems like the type to be like 'you asked for this so i'm not gonna treat you any different because i trust you handle ur shit' - that's why she doesn't go around calling Gwen 'kid' like Peter does.

Gwen isn't her little friend Gwen is Jessica's trainee. She treating her like that because Miguel isn't gonna treat her like a friend either.

Eventually Gwen's not gonna answer to Jessica - she's gonna answer to Miguel and Gwen had to be ready for that because if you're not ready for Jessica's 'attitude' and leadership then you're NOT ready Miguel's genuine anger and irritation she's deadass prepping Gwen to work for Miguel thats her job fjkgksfdgh

that's why shes like I can't help you - its like when youre a little kid acting bad as hell and ur mama is like 'iight wait till ur dad get home just wait' and youre like 'FUCK' because u didn't listen to her and now have to deal with him

I don't have experience to draw from my life; but movie Jessica Drew doesn't stray too far in the comics! She is consistently 'disliked' because of how she has an 'attitude'! She says what she means and how she feels consistently

She calls herself the 'surly' neighborhood Spider-Woman! She wants a good world for her kid and goes out of her way to go to the universes' best hospital in childcare! Jessica having a child while still being a superhero was such a big thing! She physically fights off hoards of bad guys after giving birth! She's badass as fuck!! NOT TO MENTION! That Jessica's baby in comic is from a sperm donor, and that Jessica has NO desire to learn the donor. She hates that people assume she must have slept with someone to 'end up' with a kid!! But doesn't let that force her to divulge her personal business!

Jessica Drew deserves so many readers!! Especially the comics that are written and illustrated by women!!!

Jess in the ATSV is viewed as 'aggressive' and too 'forward' maybe because no one is used to seeing a powerful woman, let alone a powerful, black woman. It's hard knowing that Miguel (especially), Ben Reilly, and other characters are liked for their aggressive behavior and loud thoughts, but forbid a black woman to have anything close to strict rules, or even a thought.
