If you’ve ever had surgery, you might have encountered some of the molecules featured in today’s graphic, which looks at IV anaesthetics: http://wp.me/p4aPLT-1ql
I am a terrible bloggggerrrrrrr
Abdominal Pain Differential Diagnosis (Dx) according to different regions
7 Things I Learnt In Anesthesiology
1) Contrary to popular belief, this specialty does NOT involve passing the time by doing crossword puzzles
2) All the physics I thought I’d never need for realzies is actually useful :/
3) As soon as you see a procedure READ ABOUT IT!
4) It’s important to tread the fine line between making yourself available for doing procedures and swiping opportunities from your classmates. Be kind to one another.
5) That being said.. don’t wait for them to point on you just glove up!
6) Find Residents who seem up for teaching and stick with them.. don’t be a pest just show them you’re interested. It also helps to be on top of your game when it comes to questions.
7) You don’t want to be remembered as the Chatty Patty but when you know an answer SAY SOMETHING! Even if you DON’t know it TRY! This lesson is being reinforced in my current rotation and it’s something I struggle with. Confidence is key! Stop being so afraid to say the wrong thing!
I LOVE ORTHOPEDICS!!!!
That Is All.
Remember when i promised to be more consistent with blogging?
Yea.. I suck at consistency in pretty much every facet of my life lol.
I start each month thinking this is the month I start my weight loss journey in earnest and 2 weeks later (usually when i’m ovulating) my enthusiasm reserves are depleted and I give up.
I start each rotation like OH YEA I”M GOING TO OWN THIS SPECIALTY! Then by the end I’m like WHEN WILL IT ENDDDDD! (Ok this only applied to 2 of the 3 rotations I’ve done so far but still)
I even considered spacing out my posts and being all mysterious about it But I don’t think i’m cool enough or have enough of a following to pull that off. Hence I will try to actually try to be consistent instead of letting everything slip by me.
I can’t even blame it on the stress of rotations because I somehow manage to have time to binge watch shows and take up jigsaw puzzle solving (found a free website filled with soooooo mannnyyyy puzzles.. HEAVENNNNNN)
Sometimes I wonder if consistency even matters considering this is more therapeutic for me than anything and It’s not like I have 480 million followers.
However I like to think that somewhere out there in the tumblrverse there are introverts or med students or girls struggling with weight issues or professional procrastinators who identify with my struggle and appreesh that there is someone who feels their feels. Lemme stahp before this gets too deep.
My Anaesthesiology rotation is almost over (Pray for your girl.. exam on Thursday) so I’ll have to do a 7 things recap to make up for the month I missed.
I should probably get somme sleep.. K Bye.
7 Previouslies
Hello friends! You know how most shows have a "Previously on.." segment at the beginning? Let's do that but in blog form since I haven't done a '7 things this week' for a couple weeks.
Previously in my psych rotation:
1) New patient assignment wooooo!! My first patient made me sad. Very sad. I realize my feelings are nothing compared to what they have to go through but still the feels persisted. New patient really taught me lessons in keep my composure and how important it is to build a rapport with your patients. \I think there's a fine line between being homies and a proper DPR and I'm not sure if I have crossed that line but at least my patient is talking to me now :D Progress!
2) All those nights where I was either too sad or too tired to study have caught up with me. Exams this week. Le sigh. OSCE's make me so nervous. I just feel like I'll nvr be adequate so I suck it up and try to feign confidence regardless. My rotation buddies have commended me on my interview skills so I guess faking it til I make it is a great plan :D
3) A patient in A&E tried to hug/hold on to me until her family member came back to be with her and I kind of let her for like a minute and the resident looked at me like wtf are you doing? TRES EMBARASSING! T.T See this is why i'm reconsidering psych as a specialty. I'd get too emotionally attached/invested. There's empathy and then there's me letting this little ball of anxiety hug me cuz she thinks she's dying :/ Too many fine lines I don't feel equipped to navigate.
4) Group work is annoying. Nuff. said. My OCPD is showing.
5) I want to go home. Trying to repress these feelings because I really just have to suck it up. I don't even have a return date to look forward to. I hate this feeling like things are up in the air and I don't know what's going to happen. Yea.. my OCPD is showing. I know in reality that we never really know how things will turn out despite our plans but I don't even have a plan! I was content with this before when all my plans were blowing up in my face and I gave up. But now it's just like ahhhh what to do what to dooooo. My spirit needs to be rejuvved. I haven't found a good church yet so I think that's why I'm all over the place emotionally. And yes I know God is with me no matter where or how I worship. It just feels unsettling to not have that sense of community I feel at my home church. I did attend one service via skype a couple weeks ago. Almost but not quite the same. Wow this one ran long. I feel like this should count for 6 & 7 as well.
6) My diet/workout plan got a little derailed but I think I'm back on it.. I hope. NO LONGER WILL I BE A SLAVE TO CARBS!! The cravings for bread are so bad now I can almost taste it. The whole wheat bread here is just.. <3_<3
7) Two more weeks of psych left!
Meh
No 7 things this week. Psych is making me sad :(

[Antibiotic Cheat Sheet]
21 People On What They Would Tell Their 19-Year-Old Selves
Jonathan, 55: There is no such thing as “the only one”. You will meet lots of “the ones”. Only commit when the timing is right for the both of you – that can take years for some, and that’s okay.
Miranda, 24: Drop pre-med.
Isaac, 48: Deodorant does not count as a shower, and that haircut only looked good on Bon Jovi.
Anya, 42: Make the conscious decision to be happy, and then stick with it. Society will do everything in its power to convince you that your personal happiness is dependent on something external – beauty, success, wealth, etc. – it isn’t.
Parker, 55: 60% of the things you think are important now won’t matter a whit to you by the time you reach 50. The trick is to figure out the important 40% and work it.
Megan, 34: He doesn’t love you, and you will be okay.
Peter, 58: Don’t let anything stand in your way of taking part (or all) of your junior year abroad. You’ll never again have quite the same opportunity to experience a foreign land, for an extended period of time, in your youth. It is destined to be one of the most memorable aspects of your life.
Eleanor, 67: Talk less. Listen more.
Donald, 27: There’s a huge difference between who you want to be and who everyone around you wants you to be. Figure out which is which.
Camille, 56: Always remember: when falling off a horse, pull your tongue in.
Jackson, 57: No one knows anything for sure. They’re all just doing the best they can with what they have, just like you.
Vicki, 47: You’ll never have all the answers, so make every question count.
Donald, 38: You don’t have to grow up to be the dad you never had.
Katelyn, 30: Make the most out of college. You will never again be at a place where your only goal is to learn. Learn a lot, learn often, and learn with reckless abandon.
Joshua, 55: Women love to laugh.
Annabelle, 38: Drugs are not beautiful, glamorous or opulent. They are not a remedy, a solution, a cure-all, or a cure-anything.
Colin, 50: You miss so much life when you sleep until 3 PM. Wake up to see sunrises; they are the most stunning of nature’s masterpieces.
Eleanor, 26: Eating two pints of ice cream won’t make you happy. Neither will sprinting 10 miles. Be nice to yourself.
Aaron, 52: Don’t forget to ask that girl in the Oberlin library what kind of perfume she’s wearing. You’ll buy it for her in 20 years.
Scarlett, 54: Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Those that get you will love you, those that don’t, well, their loss. Just remember: Wherever you are, it’s a party.
Zack, 9: I hope you’re awesome. And be nice to girls.
7 Things This Week
1) Started my psychiatry rotation!!! WOOOOOOO! I'm actually interested in psych as a specialty so hopefully this is a great experience
2) The struggle to eat properly/not waste money which can be used for food continues
3) Moved to a new hall where I only share with 7 other girls! HUZZAH! Privacy..ish! I really like it here compared to my former dwelling place. Also I finally bought a pillow!!! Yes I have been pillow-less for about a month now. Among my list of random things to buy are cooking utensils, a pan, a nailcutter and braiding hair. I'm acquiring the necessities as I go along instead of buying them all at once.. mostly cuz idk where to shop lol.
4) Went to a bible study group where we looked at John 3. Was pretty good. Main takeaway were the tips on how to approach bible study. First observe, then try to interpret and apply. This sounds a lot easier than it actually is.
5) Had duty this week and spent time in the A&E department. Things get cray in there lol. Our patient was not having this interview. Either feed him or leave him alone. We opted for the latter
6) Came to the realization that not only is chivalry dead, its been buried, mummified, dug up by archaeologists, then cremated and its ashes were spread at sea while amazing grace was being played on bagpipes. You mean to tell me 3 young men (If they should be addressed as such) sat and watched me and my unfit self STRUGGLE to haul 2 huge suitcases and about 5 bags of my things from the parking lot where I was dropped off, up a mini hill, through the door to my building and up 3 flights of stairs and didn't think it would be gentlemanly to AT LEAST hold the door open on one of my multiple trips? Nah? Kay. Guys need to remember they're going to have daughters one day. Treat us how you want guys in the future to treat your little princesses. And yea yea i'm down for the whole WomenDon'tNeedToRelyOnMen movement but dayum I was panting and sweating and in visible distress! A little human decency is all I ask. Thank you though to the girl who was leaving the building on my last trip who held open the door on her way out. I salute you!
7) Was finally able to get a stable internet connection to talk to my fam at length :) I am content.
7 Things this week
1)Officially finished my first rotation. Main takeaway: ENTs are bosses and I am not worthy of this specialty
2) Passed my first OSCE :D
3) Gathered provisions for the month.. hopefully I don't eat all my snacks in the first week.
4) Resumed working out!! Today was day one tho so it remains to be seen whether I will keep this up or not. My biffle and I have decided to give each other a dollar for every day we don't workout. Hopefully this motivation will suffice.. especially since I'm broke lol
5) Made a plan to save money on food. I can't afford to live this extravagant lifestyle of buying lunch every other day
6) Successfully installed tiny plaits into my hair.. I'm currently removing them since I look like a toddler. Can you believe I searched high and low and couldn't find a single store which sold braiding hair :/ I may have to go on another adventure next weekend to find some. My poor sleeping habits kinda lessen the amount of time I have in the mornings to tame my fro.
7) Had a pretty good weekend off. I start psych tomorrow!!! :D EXCITED! Psych is one of the specialties I'm considering suh I hope this experience is a good one.. altho from what I've heard there's lots of free time during this rotation..
22 Things I Learnt This Past Year
1) "In EVERYTHING [not some things or the good things or the things you asked for] give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" 1 Thessalonians 5:18
2) You don't have to apologize for your personality or try to be something you're not for another person's amusement.
3) Silence doesn't have to be awkward.
4) There's a fine line between optimism and being realistic, however this "realism" should NEVER turn into blunt pessimism. Ever.
5) Despite the fact that the way you look (especially your hair) has absolutely no effect on other people's lives, some will find a way to give their input as if their opinion is the gospel. Just leave them be and hope they one day realize the error of their ways
6) Things aren't going to be sunshine and roses all the time and that's ok.
7)Never try to plan your life 5 years at a time. God's going to have a hearty chuckle at these plans of yours then ask you to have a seat.
8) Your sister really is your best friend. Yes, Some friends are like sisters but it's not exactly the same.
9) "Not everything that comes to your mind has to come out of your mouth."-Granny C.
10) Grandmothers, especially praying Grandmothers are the best people. You only call them once a week but they're praying for you every day.
11) You can't do anything to earn God's grace.
12) No one HAS to like you.
13) You don't HAVE to like anyone.
14) People say respect is earned. I don't believe that. Treat everyone with respect from the jump. If necessary this respect may be revoked.
15) A proper sleep cycle is important.
16) Proving that you were right and getting the last word in is not worth it. Often times the person on the other side of the debate is not worth a rebuttal.
17) Never forget the valuable life lessons that can be learned from Disney movies.
18) LET IT GOOOOO LET IT GOOOOOO!
19) Diet and exercise actually works best when you stick to it long term! SHOCKER! Starting and stopping after losing a couple lbs is not the way.
20)You're a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for.
21)"Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride in that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place" - Kurt Vonnegut
22) "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it. Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain" - Psalm 127:1
Can't wait for the 23+ things i'm going to learn this year!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEEEE :D
