this is going in my rules because i’m tired of seeing this shit in 2018 but if you aren’t a lesbian stop using the term femme to describe yourself! i know nobody on this website actually gives a fuck about lesbians, but the terms femme/butch are historically Lesbian Only Terms and the discourse surrounding this (ie: lesbians being terfs or exlucisonists for refusing to share OUR terms) doesn’t exist outside of tumblr because it’s based on lesbophobic rhetoric started by some fuckheads on this website!

the femme and butch identities are FAR more intricate than you idiots on tumblr being like “haha uwu i’m FEMININE!!! so i MUST be a femme!!! uwu” and rely on the factor of romancing women and ONLY women and you as a non lesbian (even those of you in long term wlw relationships) simply cant relate! your preconcieved idea of these identities are based on superficial! stereotypes!

and even cuter is how i’ve never seen a non lesbian identify as a butch BECAUSE of your superficial image of us! you don’t want to be related to women you see as typically masc presenting because you don’t get that these identities run deeper than outward appearance.

just so we’re all on the same page / for my own peace of mind: poison ivy is not a sexual predator. when she seduces people, it is not at all with the intent to use sex against them for blackmail or emotional manipulation, and the “relationship” is largely non-physical. her power over people comes from pheromones* and promises of wish fulfillment-- money, power, companionship, etc.-- that she never intends to make good on. she lures people in with sex appeal and she often uses sex appeal to keep them interested but there is no actual real sexual aspect to the dynamic.

she does not force people into sexual situations. she does not use her “mind control” abilities* to make people more sex-favorable. she plays off the desires of her target-- which, since her targets are usually gross old men, tend to revolve around sex and money-- and uses her “mind control” abilities to enhance that desire, as well as to make her target fixate on her as the only option to grant that desire.

the control may be entirely nonsexual in nature-- and she actually prefers this type of dynamic since it doesn’t involve the same type of risk that a wish-granting dynamic does. when someone falls victim to her pheromones, she is, essentially, the only clear voice they can hear. their own mind becomes fuzzy and thick and it is much easier to simply do as she says than it is to try and work things out on their own-- even if what she says goes against their personality or beliefs, they’ll often still do it because they can no longer puzzle out why they shouldn’t. (however, this does have limits; while no one can completely resist her powers, several people have proven that it if she gives a command fundamentally repulsive to them, the sudden realization that This Is Foreign can shake her hold on them-- ie, she probably can’t make batman kill.)

*all of these are the result of mind-altering spores that she developed herself. the spores put the victim in a fuzzy, suggestible state, but as ivy is the origin of the spores, any commands she gives are clear to the victim. she may also be able to subtly influence the victim without commands by manipulating the spores in their system, but this requires a large concentration of spores, and the victim will quickly fall ill. ivy’s powers work the same on all genders and orientations because they affect brain chemistry and mental state. her victims do not instantly become attracted to her; her victims instantly become drawn to her.
