Not Karl..
"have you learned how to drive yet" i have the spirit of friendship in my heart. the joy of lifes little things in my soul. the whimsy of magic. the beautiful enjoyment of nature. the answer is no though
I finally did, age 42, and I love it! But yeah, the number of people who defined me by this one thing was bull.
"this too shall pass" well can it fucking get on with it
Like a kidney stone
stop showing me ai ill fuckin kill you
One thing that's likely not visible to all younger queers is that little kids shows have gotten radically queerer in the last 10 years.
I'm not just talking about Owl House, Kippo etc, much as I love them.
I mean like stuff for kindergardners.
Characters in Strawberry Shortcake and Superhero Girls and more have gay parents just unremarkably in the background. That was unthinkable 15 years ago.
But the thing that shocks me utterly is the casual inclusion of nonbinary characters.
Dee and Friends in Oz, Polly Pocket, Craig of the Creek...it seems like half the shows my daughter watches have nonbinary characters just seamlessly included. Not even a Very Special Episode. Just...here's the scarecrow in charge of scarecrow village who uses they/them pronouns that everyone just uses without comment.
I was almost 30 before I found the word nonbinary. For my kid to just grow up with this is astonishing.
Conservatives are so mad because it's INCREDIBLY hard to just put this kind of inclusion back away. Once something is normal, and clearly not causing anything bad to happen, it's hard to convince people to be scared of it.
When I was a kid, there was one lesbian couple in kidsâ media, and theyâd very famously been censored into âcousinsâ: Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune.
When the end of Legend of Korra came out, as someone who had never watched the show, I sobbed.
Now I hear about a new cartoon with queer characters and itâs like âoh, okay,â and I get on with my day.
This inclusion isnât just helping kids. Itâs helping older queers too. Even five years ago if youâd told me there was a preschool show with a nonbinary scarecrow I probably wouldâve started crying. Iâm pretty sure my reaction would absolutely NOT have been a mostly-unsurprised âhuh. Cool.â
I love this so much. And more than that, I love that it no longer feels like An Event to me. Thatâs important.
i don't think gym muscle counts. i think you should put on muscle from ploughing the field. rowing a boat. spending your days at the loom weaving intricate carpets. things of that nature
I'm here for this
I think you should legally disclose if something is ai just like how you legally have to disclose if something is an ad
you guys know being neurodivergent isnât just ⊠having interests a little too enthusiastically , right? like you know neurodivergence includes mental illness, right? please tell me you know this
I know this out loud
Realizing that when you have adhd, your house will need to be arrange how you see Kindergarten or daycare is arranged.
Big boards of weekly reminders and events for parents to come in and see, labeled everything and open clear baskets so that students can see what they need and put it back easier, open shelves for the same thing, snack breaks and a place for coats and shoes by the door, lower lighting rather than bright overhead to calm stimulation and focus on where the light is shines at, out of sight out of mind. As they say.
(Makes you think how adhd people would do well in nomadic lifestyle)
Like kids have low attention span and cannot be bothered to do nitpicky stuff. Same with people with adhd. Cuz of brain stuff i cannot really be bothered to extensivley hyperfocus on right now.
What else is there? whos a teacher here and how do they areange classrooms thats how you arrange your house but like aesthetically pleasing ofcourse.
Honestly just treat your kid like a kid and no shame bout it. Attention and focus, treats and rewards, calm rather than demand, invite it and trick it for their own good.
Make it easy to grab and easy to put back.
Like thats pretty much how you can hack it, Accept that that part of your brain is a kindergartner.
(I have to do it too cuz i literally just reaized it like five minute before i posted this)
I teach PreK and this is literally the thing to do to hack my very divergent brain.
