Not sure if strategy map games are your thing, but have you heard about the new Dragon Age total conversion mod for Crusader Kings 3? It takes place at the start of the Glory Age. I haven’t got a chance to play it myself yet but it looks like you can play as the Dales and can win against the Exalted March and even as a mage! It still seems early enough in development but it looks really interesting imo

I call my current favourite lil AU ‘Ascian Azem’ but I feel like they would never really join them in the full capacity or join them from the beginning because they always believe there is a better way and also they never agreed with either the Convocation and Venat on how the two faction dealt with events post Final Days. They became a pariah and I think it remains that way even after their survival. Although, even if they and Lahabrea don’t really get along, I think Elidibus would try to mend things and convince them because he looks up to Azem a lot. But as his memory fails him, Azem would also probably become worry about him and hover around him more. Although I don’t think general people can tell the difference between them and the core Ascians, and at the point of present day, they probably stopped caring. 12k years will also leave even them quite jaded despite still manage to hold on enough to not fall into total destruction as a solution. Their goal would likely be to kill both Zodiark and Hydaelyn, seeing them as the parasites of the star while still acknowledging that their deaths will cause total destruction which is why they haven’t just try to murder them outright and are looking for a way to do it safely. As for the rejoining, they are probably torn about it as they also see the state of the star as is as broken but at the same time, they are not so blinded by the past as to destroy everything to bring it back even if it’s a false hope.

So their character in this AU is a jaded unsundered who is a pariah against both factions, yet still have complex emotional ties with both Elidibus (who essentially is Zodiark) and Hydaelyn. They have their own plans, and their own goals. As time goes by and they become more jaded, they become more willing to cross their own lines to achieve their ultimate goal. So the question for this AU, I think, will be how far will they fall and will they be able to pull back before it’s too late.

For Emet-Selch, I’m making him DRK this time around because I love him being DRK too much lollll but as a shard even if he looks identical to Hades, he will likely have some personality difference being a shard and also having different experiences. But more importantly, he was one of the Convocation who summoned Zodiark so Zodiark always have a pinky finger around his soul (the game doesn’t explain this properly so I’m inspired by the Eldar and Slaanesh in Warhammer 40k in a way). I still have to work out how he ended up a DRK because I think his talent with magic remains but also he will have the ‘echo’ in the form of him being a soul seer in the past. He can probably identify souls to an extent, but not having nearly the same degree of power he used to have. I will also be adjusting the setting a bit since the history has be altered entirely, I have some freedom with this. Idea for his name right now is Aidoneus, but I might look around a bit more.

For the ship, it will probably be very confusing for Aidoneus (shard Emet) because I feel like Hades is the type of person who sentimentality would be etched right into his soul so he will have strong feelings for Azem the moment they meet. Meanwhile, Azem would delude themself that they feel nothing. Their confusion will come in the form of detaching Aidoneus from Hades. After 12k years grieving, being with a carbon copy of their lover who is still ultimately a different person will mess them up quite a bit. And they can convince themself that they are just using him and feel nothing all they want, but he definitely left them very shaken. But will he be able to break the layers of armour they built up? Hehehehe.

I think Azem being silly and fun and full of whimsy is good and wonderful but also my Azem needs to be hurting deep inside

She needs to never feel like she belongs, she needs to make these people into being her family because she has no one otherwise. Zodiark was the last straw and what leads to her wishing to take the role of Azem forever forhrtself so no one else can ever have it, because who is she without that title?

But also I need her to be silly and giving silly reasons why she went against orders again and torturing Emet forever
