It is fair to say Belfast has had it’s fair share of Italian eateries, including Speranza and Scalini, but as with most restaurants here, they have gone downhill in favour of lesser quality food.
So imagine my surprise when Prezzo popped up, in the now vibrant Victoria Square.
I have been a few times, but I thought it was time for it to get the review treatment, as with so many other great places.
As you can see from the pictures above, it is a very contemporary feel with an open kitchen, perfect for eagle eyed cooks like myself. The bar is well stocked, and I don’t think I have ever seen a bottle of Peroni as big as that before. It was bigger than my fat head.
As there were four of us dining, we ordered the anti-pasti to begin with.
What came out was some excellent prosciutto and parma ham, with Italian salami. This was finished with a full buffalo mozzarela, with oven dried tomatoes and rocket. There was some bread as well as an olive oil and balsamic dip.
It was delicious, especially the ham, it was really good quality.
I couldn’t help it, pizza, as you know, is a folly of mine. It is quite simply my favourite meal.
What came was the Posh Pepperoni, with a side of truffle infused fries.
As you can see from the pictures, it was a magnificent beast. The crust was so thin, that you never felt full at any time, prolonging the enjoyment of it.
It was covered in pepperoni, ham, salami and chilli’s. The chilli’s were impressively hot, and my tongue burned heavily throughout, which dampened my enthusiasm a bit.
But I finished it, and minor grumbles aside of the heat of the chilli, it was glorious.
I was in two minds as to which dessert I was going to have. I oppted for the Salted caramel arctic slice.
I am not ashamed to say it, this was the best dessert I have ever eaten, and trust me, I have eaten a few in my time.
Sponge, with salted caramel spread on top, with a block of vanilla ice cream on top of that, followed by another layer of salted caramel, and another layer of sponge.
I can still taste it, it was so good. The absolute highlight of the evening for sure.
It was a very busy night for sure, and the servers were rushing around like mad things. We received everything in good time, but due to the speed, the server dropped a few things as she was cleaning up the table.
Other than that they were very friendly, had great advice on the desserts and deserved the tip they received.
