I was going through the script file looking for something specific and found this instead:
Harding: Fried fish or coffee? If you had to pick?
Neve: Am I hungry, or working?
Harding: If you could only have one of these things for the rest of your life.
Neve: Why can I only get one? Has something happened to the fish? To the coffee?
Harding: No, they just want you to pick which one you like better.
Neve: Who's "they," and why the ultimatum? What's their angle?
Harding: You are so bad at this game.
this is now specific to my worldstate but imagine you're morrigan. you had weird sexual and romantic tension w a woman a decade ago, or smth like it, but you haven't felt that w anybody since, so no need to linger on it!
but now you're the sinister magical advisor to the empress of orlais, who is famously a lesbian. and she's in the middle of a massive break up. and like. you are morrigan. you are not surprised or put off in the slightest by power dynamics that are fucked. the world is bad. you know this, etc. nothing will ever shock you btw if anyone even cares. you're 30, not a child.
but gradually you become aware that the empress of orlais is sort of flirting w you. or more accurately, the empress of orlais is using you to make her ex jealous. now you can't tell the empress of orlais that a) you're aware of what's going on, and b) it's all pointless bc you're Not Into Women Like That, but whatever who cares. it's someone else's needless and childish drama. you have a job to do. you're doing it. you're 30.
and okay maybe it's also sort of flattering that someone as powerful as the empress of orlais finds you attractive. does this mean that no one will fucking talk to you at meals anymore? sure! but no one was talking to you at meals before, anyway. a hot, morally bankrupt woman keeps putting her hand in the small of your back. take the win, morrigan! you're not just somebody's mother, you're not just 30, you are ALSO a hot, morally bankrupt woman. if you had time for any of that, maybe, who knows, maybe you'd give it a real go, but you don't, so for now you're just handling it.
you don't WANT to give it a go. but you could prob fake it in a pinch, and the way things are going, you might have to. it wouldn't be the first time you had sex you weren't thrilled abt to get what you wanted.
speaking of which, your son, kieran, is doing great. he gets to be tutored by royal tutors. he sleeps w you in a huge bed w a feather mattress and everyone agrees he's darling and he's old enough that you're starting to think maybe those few years of sleeping on the ground and having to travel even while ill and sobbing for hours and hours bc his mother couldn't figure out that the problem was a toothache will not permanently damage this kid. he's going to be fine. weird childhood, undoubtedly. different kind of weird from yours, tho.
it's fine that the empress' whiny ex, briala, hates you bc you kind of hate briala. but gradually celene starts getting more intense. 'oooh morrigan your hands are so soft!' 'morrigan your fingers are so slender!' 'i think we must find you a more flattering wardrobe, dear morrigan.' and you're having flashbacks to the last woman who had this accent telling you how to dress. that woman had also been kind of gay. you are sweating a little bit. for normal reasons.
and it all comes to a head when you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the empress is going to make a move on you. the empress of orlais is going to kiss you on the mouth. you can only escape this for so long, and the other thing you know beyond a shadow of a doubt is that the empress of orlais is careless w her lovers. not that you would want to be lovers btw. you're not like that.
for that matter, you're not even sure you enjoy sex, period. the last sex you had was w someone who loathed you and didn't bother to hide it. you got v dangerously close to crying in front of him, and you think he maybe got v dangerously close to crying in front of you, so you try not to think abt it, bc it all worked out in the end. kieran's doing so well. if you can just figure out a way to keep kieran's life running smoothly, then who cares abt all the rest, and you can do that, bc you've done it over and over thru much worse circumstances.
so you take the first opportunity to jump ship and end up in a religious organization partially run by the aforementioned kind of gay woman who stared at your breasts and told you that you have a lovely neck and tried to convert you. convert you to what? doesn't matter. you don't believe in the maker, and you're not gay. you're 30. you are a MOTHER. and you are NOT INTO WOMEN LIKE THAT!
