some people had some questions about this situation and I will answer
Why didn’t you check the oven before preheating?
YKNOW. That is on me. But in my defense, this is unprecedented for me. I am 27 years old, I’ve had roommates for 4 years (each year was a different set of roommates) and this has never come up. At my parents’ house, the oven is eye level so you can look in and immediately see if something’s in there.
Not that I’ve never encountered storing things in the oven. Apparently my grandma does it, and earlier this year I stayed at a cabin where they kept the pots in the oven. But at THIS apartment— which I have been the only one living in this past summer— I tend to assume my oven is always empty. Because I always leave it that way.
Needless to say, I will be checking from now on.
No, actually! He thought it was his plastic spatula that melted, because he left that in there too (I took it out before taking the picture) and it was completely intact. I think it was a piece of tupperware.
Is your roommate latino/asian?
Yes actually. I would guess filipino/south asian if that makes a difference, but I haven’t asked.
I get people store things in ovens in some places, especially in cultures where the oven doesn’t get used often, but still, most people only put oven-safe things in there and not, a single plate and fork LMAO
I’m going to guess his family might only put pots and pans in their oven and maybe he got… a little confused?
I find the whole thing very funny. Another thing I found amusing is the only food he has bought so far is 36 eggs. Two 18 packs. I think he’s an athlete and I’m starting to suspect he’s a bit of a meathead
⚠️ Lead safe mama is an unreliable source!
THIS IS TRUE! And very important. If you have these plates, please don’t immediately panic and throw out all your dishes.
Lead safe mama is known for using extreme, scaremongering language, and has a clear profit motive. Corelle claims that if you have these plates manufactured after 1978, they should be perfectly safe to eat on as long as the coating is intact. I suggest you do your own research and make your own judgement.
However, that person in the notes who posted pictures of their plate with the paint almost completely faded off? 😬 I’d look into that…
Did you get to eat your brownies?
thank you for noticing my brownie tragedy. Yes, after deep cleaning the oven, I got to make my brownies and they didn’t even taste like plastic.
