Black women are MAGIC! โจโจโจ
So often as women we succumb to the FALSE ideology that we are somehow defective. It is in my opinion that these feelings are further triggered due to our societies OBSESSION with โperfectionโ! Everywhere you look and I do mean EVERYWHERE we are force-fed images of human bodies male and female that honestly arenโt realistic. Couple with that the fact that in mainstream culture and even in the Sisterhood of FAM how many women of color do you see? It is this type of visual stimulation that fosters a whole other type of oppression especially in the mind of teens who happen to also minorities. I know in 2019 RACE is a tired topic. Especially when many of you in the white community consider yourselves to be allies or advocates for people of color when you see INJUSTICE taking place. The reason why Iโm sharing this is because as a Black woman I am the recipient of micro racism daily. It happens when Iโm told โwow youโre very preparedโ! As if, as a Black woman itโs shocking that I come prepared. Even though it might seem minor when these types of interactions are the ONLY interactions that you have with white people it can become nearly IMPOSSIBLE to think anything other than the narrative that all white women donโt understand and take my presence for granted. This is why, I CLING to and LOVE the support that I have received from what I call my WOKE FAM sisterhood! Many of you I have interacted with via direct message and each of you have expressed the desire to not only support me but many of you have also highlighted the fact that you as a non person of color recognize the fact that in the Fertility Awareness sisterhood thereโs much NEED for diversity. I am sharing this post with the HOPE of continuing a much needed conversation with ourselves and one another itโs time to get REAL and to see that unless we take a long honest look in the mirror race relations will continue to be what they are which is a whole mess if we are honest. Ask yourself โhave I tried to connect I mean genuinely vibe with a woman that isnโt in from my same racial backgroundโ? I ask this because unless you are WOKE and diligent in reaching out chances are that your circle of support looks just like you. I feel this is problematic because without anyone to challenge your beliefs and perspectives you will inherently NEVER truly understand the plight and the challenge of what it means to be a person of color on TOP of the challenge of being a WOMAN! I want each of you to know and understand this post is coming from a place of love and it is my hope that genuine dialogue can continue to be had. I know for a fact that I would not be the woman I am today without the support of women from various backgrounds. Oftentimes the most growth has happened when I was able to just sit back and listen from the perspective of other women who look different than I do on the outside only to find that WE as women struggle with many of the same insecurities and challenges. So with that, understand that no matter what the current culture standards are YOU are ENOUGH!

โThe strongest thing a man can do is cry. It takes real strength to be vulnerable and let yourself feel and that much more strength to allow anyone to see your tearsโ. -Jay Z Quote Paraphrased from New York Times interview with Dean Baquet, executive editor
Listening to the pain in Jay Zโs voice as he spoke about the inner struggles heโs faced as heโs matured as a black man both personally and professionally was surprisingly moving. Now I say it was surprising because as a black woman I didnโt expect myself to relate to the pain a man feels as result of his infidelity. In the New York Times interview the mogul candidly spoke about his shortcomings and failings and how they were something heโd not ever faced in such a significant and meaningful way prior to this time in his life.
For a moment I forgot I was watching a Jay Z interview because in that moment his humanity outshined his celebrity status. You could see the pain in his eyes and face as he talked about how therapy had gotten him to address things about himself, his manhood, and his relationship that before heโd never truly let himself explore. He spoke about how men compartmentalize to the point that they ignore their emotions because theyโre taught early on that men shouldnโt show emotion or pain. He said the streets that raised him taught him early on that showing or even acknowledging emotions was a sign of weakness.
Jay Z said it was therapy that truly gave him the time and space to explore his emotions and get to understand that in order to grow as a person he had to look at the mirror. He went on to say that the hardest thing is seeing the pain that you caused on the face of the one you love the most.
Jay Z said 50% of marriages end in divorce because people give up. I must say watching the interview he seemed sincere and genuine. He said the emotional maturity heโs gained after having experienced such a set of potentially earth shattering circumstances was life altering.
The New York Times interview and the interview he had with David Letterman on the hour long Netflix special show a maturity and openness that I think are showing a different side to the multifaceted artist. In both interviews I mentioned above I saw a deeply flawed man that is doing the personal work needed to make amends through therapy by taking full responsibility for the pain his actions have inflicted on those closest to him.
Only time will tell if Jay Z and Beyoncรฉ will be able to move past the infidelities. However, openly admitting and taking responsibility for the hurt and pain he single handedly inflicted on their marriage is a step in the right direction in my book.
Seeking help through therapy and by speaking about it openly says a lot about his character and how heโs grown as a person. Being that Jay Z is a trendsetter I wonder how many other black men will be moved by his example to explore their emotions and feelings through therapy or counseling. Removing the stigma surrounding therapy is a long road in the black community especially. Seeing these interviews has got to be at least a positive step forward. Using his celebrity and status to speak openly is a trend many could learn from in my humble opinion.

I absolutely LOVE Janelle Monae @janellemonae! She empodies how a woman can be flawlessly gorgeous and let fully clothed! It's like modesty is a foreign concept for our generation. So I like to celebrate and acknowledge women who choose to go against the social norms of presenting themselves as a sex object. We as women are so much more than our beauty! We are talented, passionate, and intelligent beyond compare but we are often defined by how we choose to display our sexuality. I LOVE all aspects of being a woman! I especially enjoy the exploration of my femininity but I will not be defined merely by it! I salute Janelle Monae for the talented woman and trendsetter she is! #hiddenfigures #actress #singersongwriter #blackgirlmagic #blackexcellence #blackwomen #ourblackisbeautiful #changingstereotypes #beautiful #naturalhair #teamnatural #melanin #beauty #talent #trendsetter #trending #followmyyoutubechannel #tashasvoice ๐ค (at Washington, District of Columbia)

Have you ever noticed how by and large all of us without realizing it get fixated on the end goal? I'm definitely an advocate of goals and planning but not at the expense of personal fulfillment and happiness! Yoga is teaching me the value of my personal journey! In all the years I've practiced yoga on and off yoga never truly became a central part of my lifestyle until the end of last year. I'm now truly understanding the principles behind the poses that we do in class. Essentially the poses are extensions of a mindset and philosophy that I have found to be quite beneficial for my life. I'm a type A get things done personality so yoga has guided me into understanding the value of a moment. I am learning what it means to truly be grateful while continuing to strive for excellence. Yoga is also about balance in every since of the word. Physical and emotional balance are two concepts that have come to have such a deep meaning for me in these past months. It's easy to get consumed with where you see yourself but make sure you're also taking time to sit and just enjoy where you are and those around you! Tunnel vision can be great but it can also be limiting! Choose to be self aware! Choose to embrace exactly where you are right now understanding you are on the journey you are intended to be on!
