the “bad guys” in hallmark movies end up always being the most respectful men ever.

because they will find out their girlfriend of 3 years (that they were about to propose to) went off to a random farm in minnesota, hours away from were the two of them built a life together, and she decided to just… stay there without even consulting him.

and then he decides to take a trip to make sure she’s okay, because this is generally alarming behavior, and then sees that she literally fell in love with her ex within one (1) week- and he wasn’t there, but you can TELL that they’ve made out a couple times.

and then she just strings him along for a few days, until fucking christmas eve, when she just breaks up with him and is like “i know we used to have the same values, but i’ve never loved you. mark makes me happier than you ever did. and you ONLY care about work, whereas i like christmas and fun, like a Good Person.”

and then, after finding out his entire relationship was a lie and he had his life turned upside down in a week and he got dumped on christmas, this guy’s just like “ok yeah that makes sense. i only wish you the best of happiness with mark. i hope you guys build a great life together in christmastreefarmville. thank you for everything.”

Also I think we need to get rid of the idea that therapy is just a paid bestie for you to vent at because like therapy is so much more than ranting to someone it's challenging your internal cognitive disconnects and replacing maladaptive coping mechanisms and a whole bunch of other stuff and involves you putting in as much work as the therapist but I feel like that part is lost on people

do you guys remember when people were making fun of mcu’s bad cgi and so mcu fans started trying to defend it with “well it’s because the vfx team is overworked due to crunch and they use cgi instead of sets because vfx teams aren’t unionized” but like. expected you to STOP criticizing marvel because of that?

that’s exactly what’s happening with pokemon right now.

the reason the cgi in the mcu got so bad is because they’re producing way too many marvel moves/shows in a record amount of time and because they rely on it more than other studio’s it’s caused both their films AND the workers to suffer because of it.

the same thing is happening with pokemon where the time between major releases is becoming shorter and shorter and it’s caused both their games AND the employees  to suffer which is not great. but for some reason (some) people think that pointing out the low quality of the new games means you think the devs are lazy and that we should be greatful they’re releasing games when like. it doesn’t have this to be this way actually.

I worked in HR, handling applications and interviews, and if someone turned in that string of techno babble nonsense, I would have rejected them out of hand.

A resume doesn’t need to sound fancy or overly technical, it needs to tell us why we should hire you.

“Independent novelist/writer” is more than sufficient here. If you want to express the skills that fan fiction taught you, something like, “creative writing, editing, and publication,” will get you a lot further than… Whatever that just was.

A resume should be tailored to the position, if you can afford the time and energy for that. But if not, then just think about what writing got fandom taught you. How to respond to criticism, how to present a professional pubic face, how to correct punished mistakes, creative thinking, project planning, persuasion via emotional leverage, html formatting, office suite fluency.

There are a lot of actual, marketable skills that go into fan fiction.

Ah, and welcome to another meta by Colethewolf. I feel like writing out a new meta has become a weekly thing now. It’s pretty fun.

Anyways, this meta is about Sterek’s relationship plus the whole “spark, light and darkness” dynamic that’s quite possibly being played into both the development of this relationship and the development of these characters. 

I think that “light” and “sparks” are being played as something important to Sterek. I actually think a few hints have been revealed in the show in regards to how important it is, but perhaps we’ve missed them. 

Starting with the initial introduction to the whole “spark” thing that happened back in season two when Deaton talked to Stiles about using the mountain ash, that’s basically what kicked it off. I don’t think that conversation had anything to do with Sterek, but i’m bringing this up because it connects to the bigger picture. Moving on.

Back in 3a, Peter and Derek had a conversation about how being an alpha gives you an extra “spark”, something that Derek could give away to Cora to save her life. At the time, of course, I connected Derek losing a spark and Stiles being a spark. Why not? I mean, Stiles could totally fill that missing spark in Derek.

Honestly, it could have just been a coincidence that Peter chose to use that word (Jeff choosing to put that word into the script), but I don’t think it was coincidental. 

That was the first tip off. But now as we move into the way Derek and Stiles are developing, that whole “spark/light” business seems to be even more relevant. 

Before 3b’s air-date came around, two things happened—two things that I believe are both important, and connected to each other. 

The first thing that i’m referring to happened during one of Jeff’s Q&A’s with the fandom here on Tumblr.

Jeff was asked:

all of the terrible, no good, very bad things that happen to derek used to be kind of funny in a laughing-while-crying way, but now it seems like it’s almost too much. […] is there a light at the end of the tunnel for him, or will he always kind of be show’s the whipping boy?

Jeff’s reply was:

light. yes. 

At first, I connected Jeff’s answer with Stiles being a spark. Since sparks can be defined as “light”, I got happy. But then something else happened and Jeff’s vague Q&A answer connected Stiles and Derek together in a way some people may not have noticed. 

Before 3b began started to air, the Teen Wolf characters’ bios were updated on Teen Wolf’s site. Stiles’ bio had something in it that caught my attention. 

Stiles’ updated bio read:

As Scott’s loyal and trusted best friend, Stiles brings the brains and often the humor to the operation. Always willing to risk his life to help his supernatural friends, Stiles is the light of Beacon Hills. But this season being part of Scott’s pack will bring new challenges and their friendship will be tested.

I don’t know about you, but the reference to Stiles being the light of Beacon Hills felt a bit odd. The sentence, “Stiles is the light of Beacon Hills” seemed out of place from the rest of Stiles’ bio. 

Nevertheless, I connected Jeff's vague answer about Derek finding “light” and Stiles being the “light” together.

Next, we move onto the most recent episode of Teen Wolf, “Riddled”. In this episode, Stiles goes missing and the gang tries to find him. 

There was one scene in this episode that both made me jump for joy, and also made me stop to think about it. It was the scene where Stiles’ jeep is dead, and Derek eventually jump starts it. 

Starting off before Derek even gets to Stiles’ jeep, Sheriff locates Stiles jeep and realizes that it’s dead, saying that Stiles must have left the lights on. 

I thought this could potentially be symbolic of the fact that Stiles is “light”, but his light has dimmed/died because of the darkness and possession. And then…what do you know… Derek comes around in a later scene, ready and willing to turn Stiles’ light (symbolized by Stiles’ jeep’s battery) back on. 

Yes, I know. I’m probably looking into this way too hard, but it’s good to think of everything. You never know what actually could be something, even if it looks like nothing. Who knows? This whole scene could mean something more. 

Now, onto what Derek contributes to this scene. First, let it be known that I was extremely happy over this scene because, hello, it’s a Sterek scene despite Stiles and Derek not being together. 

And then an anon left me a message in my ask box about how Derek thought about Stiles and then proceeded to cause a “spark” by touching the jumper cables together. So I’ve been thinking more about this even more with a huge smile on my face. 

Back to the point, when you really think about that scene, it’s wasn’t necessarily needed. However, yet it was there ( and thank god, because I needed some Sterek).

Anyways, it was an important moment for Derek as he realized that Stiles may in fact be the Nogitsune, and that something may have “jump-started” Stiles’ possession. 

But let’s look deeper into this scene

When I say it wasn’t necessary, I mean it. Despite the fact the scene was perfect, Derek finding out that Stiles could be the Nogitsune could have happened in a different place. But it didn’t. 

In the midst of everything that was happening, Derek took time to drive over to Stiles’ dead jeep and jump-start it.

Why?

Honestly, the most logical thing to do would have been to have it towed back to the Stilinski residence. Because even after Derek jump-started it, he didn’t have the keys to Stiles’ jeep and Derek had his own car with him. There was no way for him to get it back to Stiles’ home. 

This is why it came across as weird to me. 

Next, we move onto the last part of that scene that I found to be strange.

Derek and the jumper cables. 

After Derek realizes that Stiles very well might just be the Nogitsune, he makes a show of touching the jumper cables together to create a big spark. 

This could have just happened for dramatic flare, but it could have had something to do with Derek being symbolized as the person who can spark Stiles out of the dark and back to being light. 

When I took Driver’s ed, as boring as it was, they talked about how to jump start a car and what not. I’m pretty sure they spoke strongly about NOT touching jumper cables together when they’re connected to a live battery because it’s dangerous. 

Yet, that’s exactly what Derek did. Again, it could have been for dramatic flare. But I thought it was strange that Jeff purposely put this into the episode so that we could literally see Derek cause a spark.

Finally, we move onto the last thing i’m going to talk about and it has to do with Derek connecting power/electricity to the Nogitsune/Stiles and what happened at the power plant. 

Maybe I didn’t pay attention to the episode, but from what I understood, Derek thought it was extremely probable that the electrical blast at the power plant may have made whatever is possessing Stiles way stronger. 

Since Kitsunes have to do with auras and ch'i (natural energy, life force, energy flow), it’s quite possible that an energy blast like what happened at the power plant, strengthened the aura/ch'i of the dark Kitsune (Nogitsune) that has attached itself to Stiles. 

This could be why Stiles was able to take out the Onis easily, as opposed to Chris’ flashback of the Nogitsune being no match for the Onis. It explains Stiles’ enhanced strength and power. 

After all, Stiles walked into that power plant with a metal conductor in hand (his metal bat), the blast would have struck the conductor, striking Stiles as well.

All in all, we’re seeing Stiles fall into the shadows—into darkness. For Stiles being described as the light of Beacon Hills, it’s pretty contradictory to how Stiles is being portrayed at the moment. 

I think a lot of us have thought, “Hey, maybe Stiles will be Derek’s spark.” But what if it’s the complete opposite?

What if Derek will be Stiles’ spark?

The Truth Behind Sterek: Part II

A couple years ago, I made a huge post titled: The Truth Behind Sterek, which provided some information about Sterek’s trajectory within the show and why things ended up the way that they did. Some people liked the post, though there were some people that still felt unsatisfied at the vagueness.

Over the years, I’ve been able to talk with more people and have been able to shape up a clearer understanding regarding what happened with Sterek on the show. Of course, it’s not happy news. For most people, it’ll make you sad to hear. It might even make you hopeful for the future. But I hope that it helps bring some closure to all of this crazy stuff that has plagued this fandom for so long.

As usual, I cannot guarantee that all of the information I’ve been told is 100% accurate. Whilst I do trust all of the people that I’ve made friends with, I’ve had to work to put together certain elements to create understanding. Not everybody that I’ve spoken with provides blatant and plain explanations for things. There’s a lot of vagueness & refusal to answer certain questions. They make their own speculations and they’ll sometimes only point you in a particular direction and wait for you to draw the correct conclusion for yourself.

This is going to be an incredibly long post, but I encourage you to stick around and take in all of the details. Keep yourself open minded and try to work through any confusion you might experience.
