give me internalised homophobia mike wheeler meeting mike the brave, who is confused when he hears about will having to "come out" and how hard it was for him, because homophobia just doesn't exist in the cleradin world
give me mike the brave asking mike wheeler what homophobia is and give me mike wheeler trying to explain why people in their world don't like queer people
give me mike wheeler breaking down half way through because he realises there really is no reason or way to explain it and it's just another thing about his life that he can't find the words for
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "thank you for being the victim of my shallow emotions."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "I am with you. My soul is always with you."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "If you want to die, then die somewhere far away from me."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "Have you lost some weight? Are you okay?"
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "I was going easy on you. If I were serious, you'd be toast."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "You're a real life honest-to-god sorcerer!"
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "If you murder another person, I'll carry that sin with you."
Or alternatively "one of them ell gee bee tea folks?"
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "It was his father. His father did it."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "I fucked your mother."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "Don't look like you're gonna cry alone, while I'm here."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "It'll be pretty lonley, won't it? You and I will be parting ways soon."
Gay people never say "I love you" they always gotta say stupid shit like "He is half of my soul, as the poets say."
bonus points if will doesn't initially realise what he's doing but mike is watching and he's just like "yeah yeah we know you have will memorized stop kissing all his moles" and then it clicks to will that mike just accidentally confessed he also has all the spots memorized
once again I couldn't control myself. I had to make this post real

my human bill from... 2024??
thought it looked rlly shit so i never posted it but it looks good now!!
mike wheelers character assassination upsets me almost every day because the duffers had multiple chances to expand on mike's character.
for example: the way mike deals with emotions, the way he bottles everything up until it bursts, and sometimes it comes out the wrong way because he never knows how to properly express himself. how he clearly felt lost for a couple of years, not knowing where he fit in when everything was changing. then he finally finds his place again: being a leader, not just making small plans here and there, but actually taking some charge, protecting his friends, his people, the original qualities that made him who he was as a kid. but now he's older and he's changed because multiple things have happened and he can't figure out how bring back that old spark he used to have when he was twelve before everything had changed.
mike with jane and will: the way mike was dating jane because he thought that's what he was supposed to do, because everyone assumed he liked her, so he felt like he had to. not knowing how to be with her without isolating his other friends. lashing out at will because mike didn't understand himself. not being able to write letters to will when he moved away because mike didn't know how to write casually towards him while writing multiple letters to his girlfriend and not being able to tell her he loved her. mike and will finding way back while living together for eighteen months, and mike possibly finally understand why he feels the way he does about will, but still not being able to express his feelings because a part of him feels like he doesn't deserve it after not understanding himself for so long.
if the duffer brothers hadn't made mike a self-insert and actually attempted to give him some depth, we would've had a very well-thought-out character. if they had actually written season 5 with some thought and care - as it was the last season of a ten-year long show - and weren't just trying to get it over with, we'd be in a completely different situation. it's upsetting that we seem to understand mike better than his writers, but here we are.
they really shouldve just given holly's plotline to mike.
imagine the chaos of the madwheeler duo running rampant in vecnas mind.
imagine them being forced to see each others worst memories and recognising the real reason they butt heads so often is because they just cant stand how similar they really are.
imagine they fight because theyre still in denial about their similarities because theyre both self hating idiots, and/or they have some sort of disagreement, maybe about how to escape or maybe max confronts him about how he's treated el in the past.
imagine that right as tensions are highest, they stumble into another memory and max finds out that mikes big secret is that hes in love with will. and he expects her to berate him. to yell at him, say she just knew there was something wrong with him, but of course she doesn't. she just hugs him and tells him its okay. and he's so caught off guard that he doesn't even react at first, but then piece by piece he just starts to break down and cry into her shoulder, because its such a relief to finally just admit it to someone, and the fact that max, someone who isnt very fond of him on a good day, still accepts him honestly just makes her the perfect person to admit it to.
imagine she opens up to him about how it wasn't the music that saved her at all, it was her connection, her love for lucas, and that if he wants to escape he has to accept the same thing for himself. he has to realize what love really tethers him to this world.
CRACK theory
You know how the season uses VERY little music in season 5 compared to before, but then uses like 8 songs back to back in the last hour. They're testing songs to wake Mike up. No I didn't count.
mike wheeler was the duffers self-insert and the reason he couldn't tell jane that he loved her was because it was projection from ross duffer and his failed marriage BOOM
