"? No" is such a foundational linguistic construction to my psyche. a hieroglyph. it should be a standard emoji
every morning i wake up and make the worst possible time management decisions anyone has ever made
so a very long time ago, my dad worked with an arson investigator
this guy was often one of the first people on the scene following a suspected arson, once emergency services had done what they needed to do. at times, there were also civilians on the periphery. often, they were freaking out, and understandably so; their home or workplace had just, quite literally, gone up in smoke
this investigator wouldn’t try to calm them down. he wouldn’t comfort them or be a shoulder to cry on.
instead, he’d walk up to the person most visibly losing their shit, hand them a fire extinguisher, and say “hey, can you keep an eye out for any other fires, and if you see one, can you put it out with this?”
of course, there was no actual risk of another fire. he wouldn’t be on the scene investigating if there was even a chance that the fire wasn’t completely put out. but the bystander didn’t need to know that
because that person, without fail, would immediately pull it together, take the fire extinguisher, and stand guard. they were, at least temporarily, calm enough for this investigator to do this job
my dad has told me the parable of the fire extinguisher a hundred times, and i think about it a lot. i think about what it says about people and crises. i think about what it says about the grounding power of having a purpose. and i think about the importance of letting someone help me through something, even if that help is just going to be another casserole to throw into the freezer, because useless or not, that fire extinguisher might be the only thing holding them together
media literacy would automatically go up 100% if people knew how to consume stories without self-inserting themselves into the characters' shoes. "if i were him..." you're NOT. you may relate to his story, his past, his traits, his quirks, his identity but the moment you start treating the story accepting what you feel/think as what the character feels/thinks, you're misunderstanding the story.
#the point of 'walking in a characters shoes' is to get a NEW point of view you were unfamiliar with #not to shoehorn the blorbo into your worldview as if they were YOU (x)
Here is a very good example of high fry screaming from Vessel. This is very different from Ivy’s
I think it’s sweet that when he’s performing outside of Sleep Token, II goes by “Sleep Token II” instead of his government name “Vessel II”.
why do they let the worlds most boring people direct movies
They explain this in the tinkerbell movies. The light comes from the pixie dust covering every faries wings. This guy hasn’t even seen the tinkerbell movies
Couldn't stop thinking about that tweet, I love the idea of a god promoting his faith.
A spectre bringing you visions of your doomed future that finishes like "and if you enjoyed this, please like and subscribe"
I had a dream that the members of sleep token started a ye olde audio-only podcast and I don't remember what they talked about in it but they used a voice modulator like ii did in the drumeo videos, and it made them all sound exactly the same
the entire fandom went crazy trying to decipher speech patterns and pinpoint individualized vocabulary usage and arguing over who had said what but it was like. Completely Pointless because even if you could say 100% that one of them said one specific thing you had no idea what else was said by that person because their voices were just. identical.
The whole cover of Dancing in the Dark (Bruce Springsteen cover)

I luv them 💖🌌✨

i mean close enough yeah?
I love how varied and universally weird the circumstances for making lifelong friendships are. Here's this guy I accidentally messaged once and I could not imagine my life without them now. Here's this girl I was so scared of when I met her, I would kill for her and remind her to rest on the regular. Here's this other guy we have so much in common we used to joke we were the same person in different timelines. It took us years to meet in person and I attended his wedding. There are also people who entered my life in absolutely unremarkable ways but changed it forever for the better. It's wonderful how easy it is to find people to love.
This is the best post I have ever written, read the notes and be blessed by loving your friends magic
@anais-ninja and sometimes the small ginger one threatens someone and the tall brunette one cackles from across the room and they spend the rest of their lives sharing a brain cell
I have the opposite of what the catholics have going on. I think that if I'm irredeemably wretched and imperfect, that's not my problem, and it's god and my parents who should be begging for forgiveness about that. Why would I be ashamed of being their creation, they should be ashamed of creating me.
my most toxic trait is i fucking love work gossip. i play neutral not to be the bigger person or take the high road but to hear slander and hearsay from every side. two coworkers complained about each other to me in the same afternoon and i nearly blacked out from the rush
To my understanding, show dogs and racehorses have the same kind of a "no two animals with the same exact name in the registry" rule, so they have to get creative with the official names.
And that's why pedigree show dogs have full legal names like Lotus Farms' Pilgrim's Light (answers to the name "Piggy"), and champion race horses have names like Cocaine Canoe Nutcracker Supreme (answers to no man nor god).
