“Nylon halters melt in fire” Its a reasonable argument, but like… Who leaves their horses halters on in their stalls??? And if the barn is burning down and its THAT hot for the halters to be melting on the horses faces, idk about you guys but I would be opening stalls and slapping rumps rather than taking the time to halter and lead them out one by one…
Pretty much the whole argument is asinine.
You like Leather halters and can afford them? Good on ya.
You like Nylon halters and you make sure that they are breakaway? Good on ya.
You like Rope halters and you add a loop of twine to make them breakaway? Good on ya.
Bad shit can happen to a horse wearing any type of tack, because lets be real… we’re talking about horses and they find the most interesting ways to hurt themselves.
Anecdotally, I saw, in person, a racehorse who had snapped his neck from a halter that was left on him while was in his stall overnight getting caught on his waterbucket handle (that loop at the end that attaches the handle to the bucket). He was found dead in the morning. The halter was leather and it did not break.
Whatever you choose for your personal set of *~*a e s t h e t i c s*~* the horse doesn’t care.
Just make sure the halter is safe, practice GOOD HUSBANDRY, and screw what other people think.
