Hey! So I have been scrolling through tumblr recently and I used to play The Freshman series, TRR, Perfect Match, HSS (but I got sick of Class Act), ROE, Love Hacks (my favorite!), and I am currently only playing the Elementalists and it’s the best because I love magic and fantasy. Does anyone have any recommendations of the new books I should try? Please let me know!!
Ok I may be way off base, but…I think Edgar basically is a creepy dude who wants to be a polygamist and marry all of these women. He used the fact that almost everyone Betty knows and loves is there (except for Jughead because my BB would never fall into that bullshit). Edgar needed to keep the female baby because he probably wants to make her one of his wives one day. (Literally so gross). I think Edgar also orchestrated Hal’s accident because he wants Betty to feel alone and isolated so he can recruit her for whatever creepy kink he has. There’s definitely more to it but that’s my initial reaction. (Also Evelyn could be charged for doing so many things with minors since she’s 26 ew)
If you don’t like the fact that The Perfectionists doesn’t follow the books then there’s a simple solution:
STOP WATCHING.
Every week I’m seeing people complain but honestly if they followed the books I think you’d still complain for it being ‘too predictable’. The show is good so appreciate it whilst it’s here.
Agreed! We’ve known since the character list and initial plot details were announced something like a year and a half ago that the show was going to be completely and utterly different than the books. I get loving the books and being disappointed, but I just wish people would either get over it and move on, or stop watching! The show is different! It’s not going to change! Hearing the same complaints over and over and over and over again every single day is just seriously grating.
Yes I totally agree!! I really liked how the original PLL didn’t completely follow the books because I could be a fan of the books and the show separately. Of course I would have loved to see MacKenzie, Julie Redding, and Parker on the show as well but i really like how the show is playing out. It’s unpredictable and really examines how the world pushes perfectionism on college students. I feel like I can relate to these characters.
So lately I have been feeling insecure about this. It seems like all of my friends around me either have boyfriends or have guys that like them and I don’t. I never really made that a priority in my life, to find someone to date because I am very occupied with school and activities. However, a lot of people in the world use having a significant other as a form of validation or a way that someone is seen better than someone else. To human beings, having something is better than not having something. I have some thoughts about how damaging this can be to people my age.
I’m in college, and in college there is now this hookup culture (which is not the point of this post but definitely something to keep in mind) that some people want and some don’t. Both options are perfectly normal and valid. However, there is this norm in place that if you’re in college, you’re more likely to be in a relationship or at least have the option to be in one. I can say straight up, that this is not the case. Sure, if you want to find someone to date and you actively pursue it, could you? Probably. But, there are some people, like me, who really just don’t have time, need or energy to go looking. When I say this to people, their usual response is “Well it will come to you, it happens eventually”. I think that that response is bullshit. While lately, I have seen my friends have it “come to them” and it not happening to me, I have felt even more left out and frustrated witnessing this.
So through my downward spiral, I had a few thoughts.
1. Having someone like you and want to spend time with you does make you feel good about yourself and that’s why you crave it.
2. I don’t think I know if I want to date right now or if I don’t.
3. Am I convincing myself I don’t want a relationship because I feel left out? Am I self confident enough to just keep going with the flow?
What I’ve realized through all of this, and in talking to my friends I have an answer for all of these things.
1. Yes, of course it makes you feel good when someone likes you, but there are so many other ways to seek happiness and self-esteem. I am such a unique and cool person and I need to know that before someone else does.
2. It’s ok to not know what I want. That’s the cool part about being 20. I am going to own the fact that I’m unsure and keep having fun experiences.
3. The fact that I even thought this is such crap. The way that people have forced this norm on us is disgusting. Not only does it diminish confidence, it makes us think we need someone else to validate us. We are all awesome people and we deserve to know that about ourselves. A lot of people, especially young women get comments made to them about not having a significant other. Those comments are not only hurtful, but they make people think that they’re not good enough on their own.
Whether you’re in a relationship, dating around, single or any other possible circumstance, it should be your choice and what makes you truly happy. Doing it because you think you have to should not be the reason. Next time you talk to someone about this, think about their feelings before speaking. Your words really can have a lasting effect on people’s mental states.

reasons why the princess diaries 2 is actually the best movie ever made
ok so i know that when we were all young fanchildren we all watched this movie and sighed dreamily. but i am here to tell u that this movie is even better than u remember
1. the main conflict in the movie is the arranged marriage. i’m gonna stop right here, because princesses in arranged marriages are a classic fanfiction trope that we are all trash for. don’t lie to yourself. but it gets BETTER. not only is there an arranged marriage… the guy she’s arranged to marry is actually a really chill dude. u like this dude. u know they would be good friends and partners. he would make a good king. but sHE DOESNT LOVE HIM!!! she doesn’t love him. and it would be so easy for the narrative to say ~oh look at this selfish girl she has a handsome titled good man ready to marry her she’s so SELFISH for wanting passion and true love, so naive~ (see fuckboys: i’m so nice and handsome why doesn’t she love me she’s horrible) instead the narrative presents her not marrying him as a perfectly valid choice and one the viewer sides with her on. the narrative supports her choice and makes it clear it was the right decision. ADDITIONALLY, the solution presented to fix the arranged marriage problem is to DESTROY THE PATRIARCHY. like???? don’t fuck with me this movie is perfect
2. literally the other main conflict is the love interest. he’s essentially a conman trying to convince mia to fall passionately in love with him so he can steal the throne. but along the way… he falls in love with her. THIS IS LITERALLY THE PLOT OF THREE THOUSAND FANFICTIONS PEOPLE
3. speaking of fanfiction…this movie is one. like, i’m not even joking. the first princess diaries movie essentially compiled the first 3 books into a movie, but the sequel wasn’t based on the books at all. disney just pulled something out of their asses and was like “this will make the fangirls happy”
4. at the beginning of the movie mia graduates from princeton’s woodrow wilson school of international affairs… literally one of the best international studies programs on the planet.. then she’s flown to a castle…where she’s a princess..and has hot men falling all over her…and wears ballgowns…like…mia is such a mary sue but somehow the movie manages to avoid making her one AT ALL
5. also holy shit??! mia doesn’t just stand around looking pretty as a princess.. she’s clearly really smart and genuinely cares about the people of genovia and does her best to serve them well even to it’s hard work… like damn mia is fucking committed to being a good queen she’s not just a princess because castles make good backdrops for romances
6. the queen/joe YAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS u fucking know u shipped that shit
7. THE ENTIRE MOVIE IS ABOUT FUCKING THE PATRIARCHY. MIA IS PORTRAYED AS KIND AND SENSITIVE BUT THAT ADDS TO HER APPEAL AS A RULER NOT DETRACTS FROM IT. AT THE END OF THE MOVIE SHE’S LIKE “fuck these rules written by old white men, i’m gonna make my own less sexist rules” AND THEN SHE FUCKING DOES?!? SHE FUCKING CALLS OUT THE SEXISM OF THE LAWS AND THEN CHANGES THEM. HELLO WOMEN IN PARLIAMENT! GOODBYE BOYS CLUBS! A WOMAN IS FULLY CAPABLE OF RULING ON HER OWN WITHOUT A MAN AND SHE FUCKING DRILLS THAT INTO THEIR GODDAMN HEADS

9. the number of times something fucking bizarre happens to mia and she theoretically looks into the camera like she’s on the office is comedic gold honestly. the maids?? flirting with her arranged husband?? climbing out a window?? the fAKE LEG!? mia is just trying to live her life but the universe keeps fucking it up. i feel u mia.
in sum i have n o idea how the fuck this movie got made but goddamn is it not god’s gift to man
10. It’s women working together that foil the plot. Uncle Gimli’s maid is the one who tells Chris Pine that his uncle sabotaged the romantic night out in order to discredit Mia, aka the love of his life. The last we see of her is her eating pear-flavored popcorn with her feet up.
11. Also the arranged fiance, when she dumps him AT THE ALTAR, he THANKS HER for saving him from just doing his duty and not actually living his own life.
12. Lily. Everything about Lily. “Should I shoo him or should I shoo him? Tell me who to shoo and I’ll shoo.” “My hello is insignificant. Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, come with me.”
Also this was the first time Julie Andrews sang post-surgery, when she didn’t think she’d ever since again, and the director was all “Okay, we have to get this in one take, because the actors will be emotional” but the crew TOTALLY LOST IT and still managed to get it in one take, even though apparently as soon as she started, it was just TEARS EVERYWHERE.
you forgot the part where Mia is choosing her future husband and one of the Eligible Princes is gay, and instead of making a joke or derisive remark, Mia and and Lily go “right on!” and move on to the next candidate
I was looking through old posts and found some responses to them I didn’t know happened and damn some people are just plain rude. Like it’s tumblr where everyone can just express themselves and have fun like people have different opinions and it’s ok that they express them and that people disagree with them. But there’s a difference between politely disagreeing and being mean about it. Like damn some of those were harsh.
Here are my thoughts on Once. While my heart is absolutely broken about the end of this era and probably the end of this show, I think that “The Final Battle” will be a good place to end it. Emma has been fighting this battle for six seasons and I think it is time that her and her family’s story comes to an end. I can’t think of any other plots they could create after “The Final Battle”, and having Emma and her family live together happily ever after would be the easiest way to end the show than to figure out how to explain her exit and keep Killian on the show without her.
So honestly, I hope this show ends after next week because it would be a good closure for long time fans. If they do renew it, I don’t think I will watch it without Jen since she is the center of the show for me. It will be like the Office without Michael Scott which was kind of funny but not really as good as the other seasons. Now I will be resorting to rewatching the show from season 1 because I skipped a few episodes lol
Once Upon a Time, and particularly Emma Swan’s journey shaped me and made me who I am today. The show gave me hope and strength when I needed the most. I started to watch the show at 12 and now I’m 18 and it just helped me grow so much and I’m so so grateful for Jennifer Morrison for portraying one of my favorite characters so beautifully.
But I just really can’t process all of this. Once Upon a Time is a MAJOR part of my life. It gives me such joy and honestly is one of the things that moves me forward. I plan my life around episodes and cons and maybe it’s not healthy but it’s the way I’m used to living and it’s the way my free time was filled those past 6 years. I’m completely devastated and heartbroken. I just don’t know what the future will hold and I feel exhausted and so confused. I just hope they give us the ending that Emma deserves, hell that we deserve.
(Now excuse me while I sob uncontrollably for the rest of the day)
