UNMUTE 💯 🥺
A sick wizard castle with a nondescript van painted on the side. A gothy pin-up girl with the portrait of a random trucker tattooed on her thigh. A bathroom-themed beach vacation. A beautiful brightly coloured cupcake that tastes like soap.
Jesus with a portrait of my grandma on his wall. A scimitar-wielding fantasy protagonist reading about the adventures of sixth-grader Kelsey. A National Park with a framed print of somebody’s living room.

You know a character is goated when the AO3 tags look like this
Hi my name is Matthew Ellis Alex Goodwin Andrew Birch Jonathan Pine and I have short NATURALLY blond hair with blonder streaks (NOT BLEACHED) and icy blue eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Loki (AN: if u don’t know who he is get da hell out of here!). I’m not related to pine trees but I wish I was because I love trees. I’m British but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I’m also a spy, and I work for a secret spy club called MI6 in London where I live in a suspiciously expensive flat (that's British for 'apartment'). I’m bisexual (in case you couldn’t tell - I would not blame u for that because I couldn't tell either LMAO) and I wear mostly suspiciously expensive suits. I did not embezzle ten years of interest from 300 million dollars that is not mine and it is rude to ask about that. I also own an omega watch. Today I was wearing a dark blue suit with matching dark blue shirt and a dark blue tie (ppl say I look nice in blue) but not blue shoes because I have big feet and can only get ugly brown shoes in my size. I was at a charity gala to chat up an arms dealer. It was night so there was no sun, which I was very happy about because I prefer to work at night. A lot of preps stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them. But I only did that because it was in-character for my spy alias at the time. I would not have done it otherwise because I am very polite.
I am learning to imagine the future:
My sycamore tree began life in the gravel at the edge of a parking lot. If trees can feel pain, that is a painful, unlucky death. I carefully dug it up and put it in a pot I made out of a disposable cup.
Hello small one. This world may be cruel, but I will not be.
I decided to take care of it, not expecting it to survive, and when my sycamore tree unfurled one tiny leaf and then another, it chiseled a tiny foothold in my terrified brain, the kind of brain that doesn't remember a world before the atomic bomb and before 9/11.
I googled the lifespans of trees. My neurons had to stretch and expand to accommodate what I learned: My sycamore tree may live five hundred years. It's hard to think something so big. In twenty years, my baby sycamore tree will be three stories tall, and the home of many creatures. In five years, my sycamore tree will be taller than I am. In one year, it will be summer.
There's this concept called sense of foreshortened future where people who have lived through trauma can't conceptualize a future for themselves because deep down they don't expect to survive, When I look forward, all I see is fire and death, melting ice and burning sky. We were raised Evangelical. All we see is Judgment Day, except there is no heaven.
But now there is a tiny gap in the wall, a crack in the door of my cell
and on the other side, I see a tree
There is, in the future, a great old sycamore tree, full of clean winds and the stir of a thousand wings. A hundred years from now. Fifty years from now. There will be forests in that world. There will be a world.
It takes courage, but we have to imagine it.
Most tree species can live in excess of three or four hundred years. I think I'm learning something. I think there are ancient voices saying hello small one, touch the dirt and the leaves, for now you are part of something that cannot die
in 2030 I will be thirty years old and the world will not have ended and there will still be hummingbirds, and we will have photos of the stars more beautiful than we can now imagine.
I planted an Eastern Redcedar; they may live nine hundred years. There will be nine hundred years. The people in that time will remember us. Maybe we will meet the aliens (hi aliens!).
I will blow out the candles on many birthday cakes in a world where there are wolves in dark forests far from home. I am learning to imagine the future. I learned recently that elk were reintroduced to the Appalachian Mountains after over a hundred years of extirpation, and that they are expanding their range.
That tiny crack I can see through now opens a tiny bit more:
Maybe elk will pass through my hometown, maybe there will be a forest where the pasture is on the high hill that I can see from my home
say it, say it, say it: ten years, thirty years, a hundred years from now
I am learning to imagine the future. There is a crack in the wall of this prison, of this machine, of this darkness, and through it, I see a tree.
today
I thought about just tagging this 'nuff said, but it's not.
I want to say something to all of the women under 50 on this site. Ready? You do not have to be over 50 to start taking up space.
Can I make that blink? Is that a thing Tumblr can do? Because, seriously. The sooner you believe you are allowed to take up space, the better life will be.
I'm 44 and I've been thinking a lot these past four years about what it would look like to lean into aging. To look forward to becoming an elder, to intentionally not cling to youth and the social rewards of being seen to cling to youth. I realized that my vision for my grey-haired self is simple: biker grandma. TO this end I started lifting weights, combat training, and making patch vests. I don't have the motorcycle yet, but I do have a savings account.
i made this in 2013
Probably about five people will think this is funny, and I hope the other four see it.
…My calculations appear to have been in error.
I for one am existentially terrified of the HMS Incomprehensible.
His Majesty’s least Euclidean ship.
HMS Indigestible should prove a problem for any foolhardy sea monsters.
Is HMS Inoperative a Type 45 in the modern RN?

Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!

OH HELL THE FUCK YES
You know, if we have to make another Star Trek movie, I propose we start one with twin brothers. Not sure what their names will be but it's implied they are children of Vulcan-Human pair. One looks like a brunette human boy but when he speaks, it's all Vulcan seriousness and logical deductions. His brother, on the other hand, has blond hair and Vulcan ears but is all expressive and always gestures like crazy. The only thing they have in common is their insecurities (they think the other is the better brother/superior Vulcan/Human, etc).
Shenanigans happens because it is. It requires them to team up with other hybrid children and after a whole learning curve of 'my brother loves me and he doesn't have it better or easier than me despite seeming so' both saves the day. The end scene will be them coming home, the door reveals only to see Bam! Jim and Spock, older and worriedly, demanding to know where they were. Applause 👏
The Chinese shoe manufacturer decided to demonstrate the indestructibility of their shoes
And also the indestructibility of that woman's ankles
