ultimately I think the place where I will never see eye to eye with the "you can do whatever you want forever" people is in the precision of language. I do think it is genuinely important for words to have widely agreed upon definitions that are only flexible to the same degree that the rest of a given language is. a word whose definition is whatever suits the speakers preference and makes them the most comfortable doesn't have any real reason to exist and serves no linguistic function. i support anyone's desire to do whatever they want so long as it's not hurting anyone, but there are always going to be words that accurately describe what they're doing and ones that don't.
The thing about the moon is maybe you donât need to write a poem about the moon. The moonâs been done, weâve discussed it. Itâs a coin a mirror an eye a lantern in the darkness. Itâs a rock in space. Itâs the dang moon weâve all seen it! Is there something you can notice thatâs is more surprising than the moon???

Currently in the middle of our tgwdlm performances, this time as Tess (Ted) Spankoffski. Having a great time!
Since i'm somewhat born to play the asshole, i got the role with ease, tho i insisted on playing him as a woman, because i had some fun ideas to make the character more interesting.
For now it's working out great.

I'd like to propose my headcanon of pre-Eye Jon having aphantasia [the inability to create images in one's mind] so whenever he tried to visualise or picture some details within a statement he'd try and doodle the concept on a notepad, or look it up, or make a note of it and look through books in the Institute library on the topic in hopes there's pictures. Then, after he starts serving the Beholding he just.. sees so clearly now. He doesn't even have to perfectly focus, he can just visualise things fine now.
Trying to explain even one ounce of class/caste/ethnic/religious dynamics in South Asia to somebody completely removed from it is so humbling like sometimes I forget how cartoonishly insane all of it is. The racism factory that churns out new types of racisms
There really is no equivalent to the amount of social hierarchies in South Asia and how intricate they are which makes sense for a variety of reasons but do you know how sad it is to try and explain new types of oppression to people. To introduce people to social hierarchies they couldnât have even dreamt up. The racism factory that produces new racisms
The notes on this 50 note post already shows how right I am. People donât ask my caste because they can tell based off of the most basic level shit related to my life within the first few minutes of meeting me. the only people who ask my caste are white people who have no idea the gravity of what theyâre saying
op feel free to tell me to shut up because I know I do not have a full grasp of this issue like I should BUT
Iâm a child of indian immigrants in the west and I thought I understood casteism because we definitely brought that shit over with us to the new country, but I donât think I really understood it until my dad was talking about his childhood.
we were talking about his childhood in the first place because heâs having some issues with his brothers right now (heâs the youngest kid and his brothers canât accept that heâs a grown man that makes his own decisions (heâs 60)) and he was talking about how they used to be so close and their childhood was so good and blessed but then he was like âbut maybe it was always rotten, maybe there was always this seed of judgement in usâ
he was talking about how they, an upper mid caste family in a tiny farming village, would hire low caste workers to help out during the harvest. as part of their wages, they would get meals from the family. but because they were low caste, they werenât allowed to use the same plates and cutlery as my family. it was thought that them using the dishes would permanently contaminate them. they werenât even allowed to keep their own âcontaminatedâ plates in the house. instead, they would take their meals on banana leaf plates. and I was like âok thatâs fucked up but banana leaf plates are commonly used by all castesâ
then my dad explained âif we were to give them sambar, they would dig a small hole in the ground and line it with leaves, and we would ladle the sambar into that. if they wanted water, we would ladle handfuls of it into their hands and they would drink it all and silently ask for the next ladle. this was part of my daily chores as a child, to feed grown men in such a degrading way. something about it felt wrong to me, but I was a child who couldnât understand why.â
I was already shocked at that but then he continued âonce, there were no banana leaves, so I went to give him the plate I was holding. the man wouldnât even take it from me, knowing how the rest of my family would react. when he accidentally brushed against it, I was surprised and dropped the plate. he then picked up the plate and built a small fire from the branches nearby and threw the plate in. these were steel plates, so they could survive that. he then used a different leaf to pick up the plate once it had cooled enough to give it back to me. not once had I even spoken or asked him to do this, but he knew that the plate needed to be purified before it entered our house. I think I was eight years old.â
I think this was coming up for him because he was already realizing that his family werenât always good people based on their interactions with him and this made him see their actions through a new light. my dad left the village and eventually the country fairly young so I think he hadnât interrogated his fond childhood memories like that. honestly, it made me think less of my family.
Iâve heard some people compare castes to different sects of christianity and I donât think thatâs a good comparison. thatâs bias based on thinking youâre the best. casteism is having a hierarchy and knowing exactly where you stand in that hierarchy and knowing that you canât change that no matter what. that you are dirty and that you were born dirty and that you will never be clean.
being mid caste means we get shit from brahmins, so I thought I understood. Iâd read about dalits, so I thought I understood. but that was the day I really started to understand.
For anyone whose completely removed from South Asian caste (like me) and struggle to understand it, here's a really excellent 2 hour video of caste, it's history and politics, by an Indian:
It's really in depth, cites research and is probably valuable to anyone who wants to learn more about the history, but still explains everything in a very accessible way. Basically everything in it was news to me, so if you know very little like me you'll definitely get very much out of it.
In the video he does actually compare Indian caste to several similar social categories in different places in the world, though I don't believe anywhere else this type of caste system has been as intricate (at least as far as we know, since our knowledge is limited of ancient societies). For example France and Spain had Cagots, who were basically completely indistinguishable by looks, language, religion etc. from the general population, except for being descendants of certain families and they were segregated, seen as impure and heavily discriminated till the 20th century. Japan has burakumin, who were class in feudal Japan, which consisted of professions considered impure, like slaughters, butchers, tanners and gravediggers. They were also indistinguishable from the general population, segregated and discriminated against. Even after feudalism their descendants continued to exist as a separate oppressed class until very late into 20th century and even in this century in some areas especially social discrimination continues.
Can we include darebee.com with ao3 and wikipedia on our list of really good nonprofits with excellent services that we stan?
It's a free, no sign-up, no ads fitness resource created by professionals who view this as activism (fitness should be accessible to everyone), and it's very thoughtful and thorough.
Features I really like:
- all instructions for workout routines are diagrammed on single pages with a clean, easy to read layout
- there's 30 or 60 day programs you can follow if you, like me, don't know what to do. they take you through a rotation of workouts so you're working different muscle groups on different day for a specific purpose
- there's so much variety and there's a filter so you can find the level and your goals and type of workout you wanna do
- you don't need any equipment
- some of the programs are RPGs or adventure stories! How's that for motivation. There's also badges and achievements or something but I haven't looked that closely at how that works yet
- they're nerds. they name workouts after D&D classes. There's a Lannistrr workout, a batcave workout, a witcher workout
- I've only scratched the surface
I'm doing this really easy one to start out

Hungarian slang & everyday language: #1 general stuff
Most things on this list are slang, but some are just words or expressions used commonly in everyday speech. It includes sample sentences, and, if possible, also the non-slang versions of those.
hali - hi
mizu - mi ĂșjsĂĄg? - whatâs up? (nowadays used rarer) Mizu is also a name of a very well-known 2011 song. So well know that my classmate put it on in 2016 and 80% of us sang the first verse without a mistake. That doesnât mean itâs good, it was popular back then, and it left so many deep scars that ppl still remember this. Here, go watch it: Mizu The lyrics: dalszöveg

fyi the point of fucking up your data patterns isnt to avoid suspicion. itâs to make EVERYONE suspicious. same logic as the bloc, pals. protect your comrades, be suspicious. ESPECIALLY if you arenât doing anything likely to get you arrested.
the state is less omniscient and significantly more incompetent than youâd think. overextend their resources at every possible opportunity. make them cry wolf repeatedly. run their data analysis agents fucking ragged. and strike. attack.
YES iâm a postgrad statistics researcher and i can tell you that the state honestly has NO IDEA what to do with the data it collects, it has an obsession with big data but itâs almost impossible to work with in practice. the traditional statistical approaches that are used canât be scaled up, the adapted approaches are substantially weakened, and the machine learning approaches have the same problems and often tell them nothing. data scientists are only just coming around to these issues too, most still just push on with it anyway - incompetence is the word. above all this though, like you say, the biggest issue for the state is at the point of data collection. they will NEVER get anything useful if theyâre collecting shitty messy data. they will eventually figure out that the real solution is working how to collect accurate and meaningful data, we should make it as difficult as possible for them to do that
This makes me think that we need WAAAY more apps that generate junk data
Apps that generate junk data? tell me moooore.
Ooh I know this one!
Ad Nauseum is an adblocker that stores the ads it blocks and continuously generates fake clicks, fucking with analytics and costing the ad companies money
TrackMeNot automatically does randomly generated searches on a variety of search engines to obscure your real searches and fuck with analytics, and you can set it up to work with anything that has a search bar (including facebook, twitter, amazon, youtube, etc)
WhatCampaign replaces analytics parameters in links with the string âFuckOffâ. I thought there was a similar extension that used random strings, but I canât seem to find it
Privacy Possum is a fork of Privacy Badger with a focus on costing tracking companies as much money as possible, and idk if my limited tech knowledge is enough to understand what it does but the description does say it falsifies some data so thatâs good enough for me
