This has been rotating in my head a bit since it got mentioned (I cannot remember where), but I wonder if Mewtwo really Is built for floating only, considering Mew never seems to touch the ground except at rest (like a hummingbird tbh), but Mew is also, a lot smaller than Mewtwo, and if larger objects need more energy to be lifted, then floating would still be harder for Mewtwo due to the larger body mass.
Or, if Mew is also not built for floating and she just, doesn’t care and uses it as her primary mode of locomotion regardless of physical consequence, what kind of movement are they built for? Both their legs to me seem built for plantigrade movement, not unlike rabbits, but mews front arms seem a bit too short for that, which then directs me to jerboas which have a kinda similar leg/arm ratio? Big’ol hopping legs.
Just musing on how Mewtwo could have moved if their body had been less fucked up
If we're considering purely anatomy, then yeah neither of their designs are fit to be moving on the ground (the only time Mewtwo has been depicted walking iirc is in Detective Pikachu, and it's being puppeted by a human person there). Though these are legendary and mythical pokemon, I don't think being energy efficient is in the equation for them at all. They can do whatever they want with no physical impact forever (the psychological impact of their choices notwithstanding)
The closest real life animal to Mewtwo is a kangaroo, which means it would probably be most comfortable hopping around on its toes and standing on its feet plantigrade style. It'd look absolutely ridiculous because it's got short digitigrade lower legs instead of a kangaroo's long skinny ones
The awkwardness reinforces how it is an unnatural creature :DD
As for Mew, glad you picked up that it is floating an Unusual amount! While I make a point to draw Mewtwo constantly touching things and lounging cat style all over the place, even with floating as its means of locomotion, Mew I keep as its anime depiction, which is always floating midair. I like the sense of detachment it gives it, this hovering higher being that hasn't been in touch with the world for who knows how long
