to be clear the end of Hysteria As A Diagnosis wasn't even the end of "hysteria". I cannot believe that. in a world where many women (and people perceived as such) still experience medical neglect at the hands of post-hysteria diagnoses. anyone would think it would ever be appropriate to go "haha hehe this is me and my female hysteria". don't even joke. I spent 30 fucking years dealing with Endometriosis. I would bleed multiple weeks out of each month. "Day four" was my code for "I am physically incapable of walking because something has ruptured inside me yet again". (Rupturing cysts. Starting at age 9.)

30 years.

My doctor informed me after a merciful hysterectomy that she had been a doctor, practicing for 20 years, and it was the worst scarring she had ever seen. Ever.

So for the 30 years before that? I was told that the pain was in my head when I begged doctors for a resolution. That if I just thought about it less, the pain would get better. Perhaps take a couple Tylenol. (Golly gee willikers, why didn't *I* think of that?!! </sarcasm> ) This concept? Is "female hysteria" at its core: the belief that we are falsely claiming distress and becoming distraught without cause. That it is "all in our heads" when we exhibit distress.

Do not fucking try to reclaim female hysteria. Do. Not.

Do not let our pain and problems be brushed off as "poor widdle schnookums must be so confused. Would poor widdle baby like a lollipop while we denounce every reasonable thought and concern in her head?" Because that's what reclaiming female hysteria will lead us.

Some concepts need to remain dead.

Hi! Sorry this took forever to answer oops I've been travelling and yeah I dont actually post much about my ocs other than my bahlk ones on tumblr! Most of my original novel drafts and such are only shared on my discord lol

I'll choose Katie for this one! Katie is the love interest/debatable antagonist/secondary protagonist from my current main draft. My favourite thing about her is that, well, despite being the love interest, she is kind of awful. She blackmails, annoys and taunts the protagonist, grosses people out, and mocks people often. She's also terribly violent, always looking for something she can get away with, and letting loose when placed into a situation where anything goes. Her baseball bat is used for everything except sports, and I hardly have any art of her where she isnt drenched in blood.

She is 15-16 and full of hormonal teenage rage, which is also great for her spinning herself into an incredibly intense love for a man who hates the very look of her. But that's kind of what she wants, really. Who can make fun of or mess with you if they hate and fear you so much they won't even approach?

Katie has her reasons. They don't entirely justify her actions, sure. But they're reasons nonetheless.

They’re also shooting for 100% renewable plastic sources by 2030! All of the soft plant/leaf elements in sets right now and going forward are made out of bioplastic made from sugarcane, and they’re working on getting the regular hard plastic bricks out of that, too.

They’ve done it, actually! The full bricks are in the prototype stage now, and are expected to be 100% biodegradable without the need for a commercial compost facility. It’s very cool. Right now they’re testing the durability and playability of the bricks and seeing what needs to be revised/reworked on their final model.

Actually, this isn’t “easy” and is huge news. You see, Lego is absolutely meticulous about their quality control. Their standards for manufacturing are stupidly high, as are their safety requirements. You know that distinctive “click” when you pop two Lego bricks apart? They engineered that. That sound is so distinctive that it can be used to tell genuine Lego bricks from counterfeits and it’s a sound that would be based on shape and material.

Furthermore, one of the hard requirements for a Lego brick is that it must be compatible with any other Lego brick. If I buy a set today and pull a set from the 1980s? Those bricks would fit together perfectly. This requires a huge amount of precision engineering and controls on manufacturing quality. (I can’t remember the source, but I’ve at least heard that once the brick molds wear to a certain point, they’re pulled from the line and either melted down or turned into construction material for Lego HQ. Point being, no one is getting their hands on a worn Lego mold)

Recycled and non-petroleum plastics are different from other plastic. The chemistry is different. The timing and process to use them is different. This has been a reason why more companies haven’t moved to them, because there’s a drop in quality for material (so they claim).

What Lego just did is completely obliterate that argument. The corporation with some of the strictest quality control requirements for plastic just kicked the basic foundation of the “bad quality” argument out from under it, because if they feel confident enough to guarantee the same experience as using a brick from over 40 years ago, if they are confident enough that they can meet their own metrics at a huge industrial scale….

Nobody else has any excuse.
