So I made this edit to cope with my feelings about losing Claudia
sorry i just. bigotry aside, i can’t believe how those writers butchered tvl that bad. like, tvl is a bigger book than iwtv, and yet it only got one season and it was Like That. i don’t even care that the show was renewed i don’t want any of these people butchering qotd too
So many amazing bits slashed. I like the season I think it has many good parts but I am concerned with the way the shows going. I'm concerned about the lack of armands rape of lestat which establishes the extent of lestats mistrust and anger at armand and what if they fuck akasha up and make her seem like girl boss of the year
What do you think about Hannah being the showrunner for Season 4 and Rolin not being in the writers room?
Said some of it here:
💬 1 🔁 52 ❤️ 102 · #*eyeroll*#so much for TVL “part 2”#and hannah being showrunner now?#well okay then#expectations just went to the sevent
One word: Mistake.
I knew that they were going to do it at some point, however. All the signs were there that she was gearing up to succeed Rolin. I was just hoping it wouldn't happen until after Season 5, if it had to happen at all.
Which I was very much hoping they would rethink and NOT make her showrunner at all, ever, but ...
Anyway, get ready for a whole lot of shit characterizations of everyone and their motives for doing things. 😑 🙄
And it being the season when we're about to get full Devil's Minion, too!? I, frankly, am livid and scared about how much she is going to fuck this up, given I have been waiting 30 years to see that relationship done, and I was hoping Rolin would still be around to write it since I actually trust him with it and not her.
Nothing I've seen from her so far has given me confidence that she can do this, especially after the season finale.
“The trial, murder night, Lesmand, whatever.”
I wholeheartedly agree (I found the post I told you about and they mention sth about the trial too, PS: i was gagged about the anusree pic) https://x.com/waspinyourear/status/2078817184764072162?s=46&t=zpXnP3iOOCzJtI7a6DPVWg
I mean, yes, I also have posted that Anusree pic repeatedly :)
And yes, that is a good summary.
And as said, I will give them season 4 to show if this really will be part 2 of 2 then.
And if they follow-up on all the things left hanging.
It's just... if they had just done the "butcher scene" with Lestat there, they COULD have addressed all that in a VERY satisfactory way. Without having to sacrifice precious screen time from the QotD arc for it. (Which we then could have used for proper backstory on the twins and the blood wars. 😣)
Instead, we got Louis hurt, again. Dynamics, re-appropriated, again.
Instead, we will spend time on the loose ends of s3 in s4.
Instead, we will - necessarily - have to shorten Akasha's actual arc because SOMEWHERE in the next season we will also have some of Armand's backstory and Devil's Minion.
S4 is already PACKED.
And they chose to put MORE into it, all-the-while frustrating just about 99% of the fandom while they were at it.
I think only the Fem!Stat fans are happy, and honestly, only because they don't think of the implications of what and who and why this is said as it is said, but that's another issue and I don't have the spoons to get into that. Let them be happy at least, lol.
"ending has repercussions for the setting" I don't understand your complaint, genuinely? Can you elaborate please
Them destroying Montreal means they are shifting into a "show universe". Out of "ours".
Now, I know that might not make that much of a difference, ultimately, for many, but one of the big things about the VC has always been that they were part of "our universe". "Our world." Despite the lore, the fantastical elements, these vampires were part of our world.
That was part of the charm.
By making Akasha's (?) destruction this massive they pulled the story into its own universe, where they can just do what they want, really.
It's not rooted in ours anymore.
And I, personally... don't like that. *shrugs*
"Reckless. Self-sabotaging. Vain. A brat. Stupid. Trashy. Tawdry. A rotten boy. Failure. Impulsive. Impudent. Stutterer. Cowardly. Selfish. Wretched. A waste. A failure. The bimbo himbo of hambone"
MY FAVOURITE FICTIONAL CHARACTER OF ALL TIME
Armand in the butchery with the hair tied back and the whole thing may be the hottest he's ever been I fear
Daniel said something about Lestat jerking off I think, to refer to his documentary bit with nicki and in daniels head and dangling the footage in front of him then it being not real but like Daniel! You were the one who looked like you were getting off on his pain and tears over his ex lover!
let him be evillllll
so we‘re getting the imagery of daniel looking in on the long table in episode 7, right?
i’ve been patiently waiting for this scene since i saw it in the trailer and given all that we know now… honestly guessing the context is even harder but like i don’t think this is a hallucination or anything. i think we are getting a purgatory-esque liminal between-undead-dead surrealist sequence. i think this is the ultimate dissection of lestat‘s psyche, maybe almost literally given the fact that he’s now decapitated but also the dissection imagery from the title sequence…
Something I literally can't stop thinking about in the DM park scene is when Daniel looks at Armand and is like "Yeah?". BECAUSE FOR A SECOND I SWORE WE WERE GETTING A "YEAH? YEAH".
And the look on Daniel's FACE??? He totally looked like he wanted it as much as I did. He looked EXPECTANT for it, that call and response, that return to their dynamic in Dubai, their arguing as foreplay.
And then the look Armand gives him after??? IT'S SO FUCKING LOADED DUDE! GO WATCH IT AGAIN RIGHT NOW AND TELL ME I'M WRONG
Can't wait for people who hate The Vampire Lestat to maybe one day stop watching um, The Vampire Lestat, because while innocently scrolling the tag or browsing other socials, I've had to see multiple posts about how homophobic this season is and I'm like um. Do you mean the show where Lestat sings "I am a meteor / colliding / writing your name in dust as I fall" to a teary-eyed Louis while they stare into each other's eyes???? Or the show where Daniel shoves Armand against a wall and Armand starts talking about pseudo-stalking Daniel for most of his life??? Or the one where Lestat had sex in an elevator with a woman, a nonbinary person, and a man all at once?? Or the one where we see Nicki asking Lestat " are you going to teach me how to be a man, Lestat de Valois?" and then it cuts to them having sex in a candlelit flat? Ghost Claudia is searching desperately for her dead wife in some kind of purgatory??? That show?????
If anything, I've noted Lestat in his own POV, without Louis' own early shame about his sexuality muddling the view of himself and Lestat both, behaving in an even more queer way than before? His gender nonconformity, the way he speaks, his just general behavior. All of it is beating in the veins of the season. But whatever! People on the internet didn't get a sex scene exactly how they wanted it, or something, so that means it's not queer.
RE: TVL 3x06
the two black lead writers iwtv had 1) didn't work on the same seasons, 2) were men and only one was black american, 3) were always co-writers never sole. we have no idea if they have sensitivity readers/editors.
we've all heard heinous shit from family born in the 40s-60s. claudia was born in 1903. she is gonna say some wild shit to louis bc black ppl say wild shit to each other especially when we're mad. we should not be judging claudia by our 2026 pro-black standards. she is rightfully angry and trying to hurt louis. i say this as someone who's only read excerpts of merrick, they adapted her anger very well from the book seance.
last thing: what if they did have someone (a black woman from the south?) come in add the extra 'umph' and now she's seeing a bunch of black folk call her writing the product of a racist writer's room? the core writers who made this show we all love hasn't changed.
#black men betray black women every day#she could've said worse
I mean, I've seen comments from other black viewers/creators on TikTok who think Claudia not only could have said worse, but should have said worse. 🤷🏾♀️
Though yes, if she had said worse, and a black female writer had written it, it would be interesting to see what fandom would be saying right now about it. 🤔
I think what Claudia said was pretty tame compared to what she said in Season One. Which, yes, given the time period Claudia was born in? That language matches.
Because yes, I too have heard much harsher shit from family who were born after Claudia would have been, in the 20s, 30s, and 40s. And not only that, she's a vampire. Language like this is one way in which she has already tried to hurt Louis because of her hate of him. Again, as we saw back in Season One.
And many in fandom appear to have developed a case of collective amnesia about that wrt Claudia's character.
Trust me, if I felt a line had been crossed with this, I'd say it. As it is, I think they barely walked up to the line, never mind not crossing it.
On a discord I'm on for Black fans of IWTV/TVL, we're pretty much in agreement that she was pretty tame all things considered. I think she should have said worse. It's really wild to me that Black fans are acting like Claudia didn't call Louis (and herself) Lestat's slaves and that her calling him nappy headed and a slave was OOC and purely racist writing.
I think that some Black fans don't get how some Black people talk to and about each other or at least are trying to act morally/racially superior by acting like they've never said some out of pocket, over the top shit to another Black person.
A lot of this faux outrage and screaming about racist writing is largely because their view of Louis as some innocent, helpless angel and selfless father that just got dragged out back and shot in the head for good. Just Claudia calling Louis out for going after Bruce being about her and the audacity to act like she should have been grateful for too little, too late. Daniel literally called Louis out for not prioritizing Claudia and choosing Lestat over her but because a lot of them see Daniel as racist, his words don't hold weight.
Louis had shown time and again that for all Louis's insistence that Claudia was all important to him, his words and actions never quite aligned and even if they did. It wasn't for very long i.e. attacking Lestat for choking Claudia to choking Claudia himself to dismissing Armand choking Claudia.
They also really don't like hearing Lestat threatening her with rape was a lie despite all the textual evidence even before the book was published to get Louis to go along with the murder plot.
There's also the fact that Claudia admitted to hating Louis more than Lestat which really doesn't gel with their racist White abuser view of Lestat (I've really seen takes about how that was the writers absolving Lestat of wrongdoing nevermind that it's quite literally lifted from canon and they are doing the books like it or not. She literally talked about using Louis to destroy Lestat and by extension himself to punishing them both for trapping her in the body of a child)
There's also so much of this believe that you can't hate someone and do things for them and show care when you 100 percent can. So much of "Claudia took care of Louis so she couldn't have hated him". It's both mind boggling and annoying.
It's also like relationship are usually nuanced and complex, loving someone doesn't mean you cant hate them. Just like liking or even loving someone doesn't mean you just accept everything from them.
And don't get me started on the thought that liking Claudia behaving in a very canon compliant manner is somehow internalized racism/anti Blackness.
A good portion of this fandom really has a problem with seeing Claudia as anything other than as a perfect victim, just like with Louis. She is/was a victim but that's not a free pass or an excuse.
Because let's just ignore that that scene is a near accurate lifting from the canon text or that vampirism is literally a metaphor for slavery, pretty sure that one of the characters saying that that's how vampires reproduce but can't applaud her getting over on Lestat and act like she's incapable of lying to and manipulating Louis, that's not how that works.
Twitter girl here. Im gonna say on the whole NAACP email thing......its not the black fans that started it. The emails started from white "activists" taking steps on black people's "behalf". And I find it incredibly distasteful to even fathom the idea that you'd be upset about the backset language of a girl who grew up in the 1900's. And while they sit there trying to be activists over a TV shows fiction and not the real fucking world rasicm at play.
Im sorry to sit here and rant, but this shit is ridiculous. The treatment some black fans have gotten just being in the fandom. The digital blackface going wild. Like its not cool. Its not funny. Its not activism. It's perpetrating stereotypes and its just fucking mental. The NAACP has bigger fish to fry!
And the colorism is going wild. Jacob identifies as black. Debating his blackness IS THE SAME RACISM people are sitting here mad about on a TV show....while doing it in real life. Perpetrating the 1 drop rule is just....its fucked.
Go outside touch some grass, read a book, and get your dumb asses off of social media spewing spewing dated rethoric.
Nothing to add.
White writers writing for Black characters
So yeah, fandom, you wanna talk about this? Then let's talk.
Because, first, after the collective amnesia of forgetting what Claudia said to Louis about being a slave in Season One (when there was a black writer on staff btw) seems to be no-so-much anymore right now as far as I can tell, the other side of the argument seems to be the fact that there were no black writers on staff this season, and that means the writers shouldn't have done it, even if it wouldn't have been out-of-character for her to say such things.
But the real nonsense -- yes, nonsense -- I've been seeing lately is this idea that, if there had been a black writer or two on the show this season, the things we are seeing when it comes to the whole show, would not be happening. Or, somehow, be drastically different.
Well, let me give some of you who might be thinking this the reality check you seem to desperately need -- because no, it would not.
Because this show was not CREATED by a black person or POC. It was created by a white man. Rolin Jones. The vision of this adaptation, and the direction in which it is going, is based on how HE wishes to adapt the source material.
And no matter who is on the writing staff? That will always remain the case.
That vision of this show and the story it's telling isn't going to change, no matter how many black writers -- male, female, they or them -- you put in that writer's room.
What the show is doing right now, the direction of the story that is being told, would not change just because a black writer or two was in the writer's room.
Because, again, overall, this is Rolin Jones' adaptation of Anne Rice's work. And it will always be that, at the end of the day, no matter who is on the writing staff.
That you would have gotten this ship you wanted because there was a black writer or two on staff? (Because I'm not stupid, I know that is what is at the heart of much of this talk.)
You are being naïve at best, and basically advocating for tokenism at worst. Because guess what? Nothing would be different wrt how the show was being written or where it is going from where it is right now.
Because at the end of the day, this show is Rolin Jones' vision. And it will always be that. And those black writers would be writing with Rolin's overall vision of the story in mind.
Now, I'm not saying that no black or POC writers should ever write for the show. Not at all! I think such a thing would, hopefully, benefit the show even more, particually when it comes to such voices advocating for the black and POC characters in the show.
My point is, however, that if you think such a thing would change the overall direction of the story the show is telling? That we wouldn't have gotten the seance scene -- which is lifted directly from the books, btw -- or that the focus of this season, and what it's setting up, would have not happened and changed completely?
Then you are being naïve at best about that. Because none of those writers would be the actual creator and showrunner of this show. The one who actually dictates the overall story and direction of this show.
Rolin Jones is the one who has always been directing how this story, how it is told, from the very first episode. Because it is his pitch for the show that AMC decided to go with.
So where the show is right now is always where it was going to go. And that would not have changed even if there had been a black writer or two on staff.
So, with that said, should white writers write for black characters?
Well, instead of making a long argument about this myself (though yes, I'm still going to have comments about it), I'm going to let two actual black TV writers and, even more importantly, showrunners/creators talk about what THEY think about this.
This video is from The Hollywood Reporter Drama Showrunners' roundtable back in 2018. And the two black showrunners on the panel, Courtney Kemp and Lena Waithe, had, IMO, some of the most insightful comments on that panel, IMO, especially about this very topic, starting at 46:04. (Transcribed below).
Courtney Kemp --
I just feel like, when we start to say "Only this person can write this narrative," those of us who are of color, or somewhat othered, that means we can only write ourselves. Nuh uh, I ain't signing up for that. I am not going to say that only people of color can write people of color because that means only white people can write white people, and that's not okay. Every writer should be able to write anything; if you do the research, you're sensitive enough to ask the questions, because I come from journalism. Would we say the same thing about journalist? Would we say that only certain journalists can cover certain things? No. Educate yourself! Ask people!
Lena Waithe --
A big thing for me is, if you are a white, straight showrunner? And you want to tell a story that isn't like your life? That's totally cool. But you've got to have someone whose life you are writing about, right next to you. And you've got to be asking them, because sometimes the thing that I don't love is the white male straight showrunner that acts as if they have the audacity to tell a narrative that isn't theirs without asking for help.
----
Seriously, watch the whole roundtable if you can. It's one of the best ones The Hollywood Reproter has done, IMO.
Anyway, what Lena said about having someone in the room next to the person writing about things such as this?
Well, that is exactly what IWTVL has with Jacob Anderson and Delainey Hayles. The two black actors who are playing Louis and Claudia, respectively, and who have talked openly and often about the collaborative process that Rolin has done with them. Both of them, especially Delainey, have done so in the After Dark episode post EP306. And even more recently, Jacob did so in a TV Guide interview.
But, as is always the case with this fandom, their opinions are either ignored or dismissed. Some people even treat them like they shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion because they are biracial and, therefore, a poor, dumb sell-out who doesn't know any better (Jacob).
Which, frankly, I find way more insulting -- along with the just outright ignoring of what Delainey has said -- than anything the show has done this season.
Jacob and Delainey are not just some poor, dumb, black people who some of you think need to be "saved" from the show via a bunch of performative advocacy, thanks. 🙄
Because it is also not lost on me that the majority of people doing things like this are white fans. (Like the one who was reporting the show to the NAACP. Really!? 🙄)
Anyway, as I said above, at the end of the day, this show is Rolin Jones' vision. And it will always be that, no matter who is on the writing staff for it. The white showrunner who created the show and the overall story arc that the show is telling.
And any black writers would did join the writing staff would be writing with Rolin's overall vision of the story in mind, not their own.
And definitely not with any fandom fanons or headcanons some of you think would be implemented on the show if there were a black writer or two on the staff.
And, at the end of the day, when the things you think would change about the show didn't change, many of you would just do the same thing with those black writers that you are doing with the black actors on the show -- Jacob, Delainey, and now Sheila -- and just ignore everything they have said regarding the show, their characters, and the collaborations they have done with the writers regarding where the story is going, at best.
At worst, you do the same thing to them that some of you have already done to Jacob, especially if any of them are biracial like he is. But even if they were not, you'd still probably just call them sell-outs when you still didn't get what you really wanted the show to do, and things remained exactly the same.
Plus, thinking that any and all black writers would think the same about the story is just, once again, seeing black people in a monolithic way that some people have -- that all black people think exactly the same about all things.
Because, for all anyone knows, if there had been a black writer on staff? That scene might have gone down even harder than what we got . . . with even harsher language than what we heard.
And maybe also with the stabbing of Louis that Claudia did in the book to him during that scene, remaining in as well.
jacob why you heal me like that
