I love how book lovers reward themselves with finishing a book by buying more books.
Sometimes we don’t even finish before buying more. We tend to congratulate our selves for buying books by buying more books.
random person: so... what is your favorite book?
me: you have no idea what you've just started
Person: So, which book is actually your favorite?
Me: You mean, like what are my top ten?
Person: No. Which book? Just one.
Me: Which series?
Person: No. Just pick a favorite book!
Me: Uh....... *brain short circuits*
Heartless by Marissa Meyer is the amazing story of the Queen of Hearts before she took the throne.
It's a fantastic exploration of Wonderland and the amazing characters who live there. Today on the MKB blog, Marissa tells us more about why she loves Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Take it away, Marissa!

I grew up with Alice. Not in the way that a lot of people grow up with Alice—though we had the Disney movie on VHS, it was never my favorite (I was always a Little Mermaid girl), and I don’t even recall reading Lewis Carroll’s work until I was in college.
Me: *finishes a book*
Family: Please, stop.
Me: *picks up another while maintaining eye contact*
Me: There is no stopping me.

Me: I bought that book for you before I bought it for myself
Me: That is the definition of true love
It might not be our Book of the Month anymore, but we’re still pretty excited about Heartless by Marissa Meyer!
It's the stunning story of Catherine Pinkerton, the girl who would become the Queen of Hearts. Heartless explores the familiar world of Wonderland introducing us to characters we thought we knew in a completely different way
Inspired by this brand new look at Wonderland, we've pulled together a list of some of our favourite YA fairy-tale retellings. If you’re itching to read Marissa Meyer’s Heartless, here’s a list of other books to satisfy those fairy-tale retelling cravings!
1. Beastly by Alex Finn
Kyle Kingsbury was the most popular guy at school. Although rich and handsome, he could also be extremely shallow and cruel which ends in him being transformed into a beast. Sound familiar? Set in modern day New York, this retelling of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is unlikely to feature gothic castles and clocks. However, all the elements of the traditional tale are still there as Alex Finn demonstrates that love conquers all – even now!

Me: To save myself from emotional trauma, I pick one character and become utterly obsessed with them. That way if anyone else dies it's not as big a deal.
Friend: But what if something bad happens to that one character?
Me: *suddenly serious* We don't speak of that possibility.
Today on the MKB blog we've got the wonderful Marissa Meyer talking about her inspirations behind writing her amazing new standalone novel, Heartless - a story filled with familiar places and characters as you've never seen them before...
Take it away, Marissa!

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love villain stories. Whether they’re of the “how did they get to be so evil?” variety, or the type that turns a story on its head and reveals that the villain is truly a misunderstood victim, I am fascinated with the various ways writers and artists can transform some of the most legendary fictional characters.
