How do we feel about a potential ateez x flight attendant reader? Sneak peek bc I haven't posted anything in a minute. If you can who the LI is, maybe I'll flesh this one out into an actual fic instead of just drabbling about with it. Or maybe if your theories are intriguing enough I will workshop the original plot into something new for you guys.
It's not every day that you find yourself at the hospital, but it always seems to happen when you’re already having a mess of a day. Fitting, you suppose, since it is the place best known for cleaning up messes and putting people back together. Luckily you aren't usually here as a patient, but with your penchant for clumsiness you probably should be. Fortunately for you, your trips over are usually just your best friends using you as a delivery service when they forget something or you coming by with peace offerings when they've had a particularly rough shift. You're not a stranger to long work days and the exhaustion of the on-call rotation.
You don’t have too many complaints, for all that you roll your eyes about it sometimes. You love your friends and you'd known the moment you befriended the charismatic boys in the dorm room down the hall during your undergraduate years that you were going to get pulled into their chaos. Having med students as best friends came with a few benefits though, and more often than finding yourself in urgent care, you end up at Wooyoung and San's apartment when something's wrong. Their space has become your own personal triage room, partly because you're more coordinated 3000ft in the air than on flat ground and partly because Wooyoung has a habit of being the responsible party behind your injury. San, bless his soft heart, hates to send you home with so much as a hair out of place so you're usually compensated with some kind of sweet treat as a reward for sitting well while they bicker about the best treatment for whatever is wrong with you that day.
It’s more bribery for your silence than anything but they patch you up well and you've become one of the very few people San shares his little snack stash with, willingly at least, so you consider yourself pretty lucky most days. It helps that you bring back international snacks to help replenish San's hidden drawers and baskets, and feed his not so secret sweet tooth after every long haul trip without him having to ask for anything. And that he’s really just a sweetheart at his core no matter how much he might whine about how you and Wooyoung test his patience on the daily.
As bad days go, this one has been more of a chain of small inconveniences than anything, so you're also pretty lucky in that respect. You've already managed to spill coffee down your favourite t-shirt, spend half an hour stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, burn your tongue twice on said coffee during that time and stub your toe getting out of the vehicle in the parking lot. Not to mention the ten minutes you spent convincing the electronic parking system to accept Woo's pass so you didn't have to pay out the nose and fight for a spot in the general lot to run this errand for your best friend. He's very lucky he's such a great cook, because few other people could drag you out of bed before noon on your first day off in two weeks without fighting for their life.
Even your roommate knows better than to try Wooyoungs loud koala bear wake up method. Hwa’s learned it's safer for everyone to simply toss a plushie at the lump under the covers and make sure there's a fresh cup of coffee waiting when you shuffle half awake into the kitchen. It works for you.
Wooyoung however, has no regard for his own safety and the survival instincts of roadkill on his best day. As a result, you're not exactly happy about being awake and still nursing a bruised rib from one the way one of Woo's elbows made contact when he tackled you in your bed this morning. The abrupt wake up call isn't exactly his usual preferred cuddle pile, so you're sulking but not exactly mad about it. At least this version didn't make you late for work.
You set the tray of coffees on the roof of your car for a second as you tuck your keys back into your purse and adjust the cooler bag over one shoulder. For all your complaints your best friend did make you breakfast and he's sending you on an errand to spoil two of his favourite people so you have to respect that. It's a little bit adorable the way he insists on taking care of your friends. You'll never say it to his face but he can be just as much of a mama bird with them as Seonghwa is with you. Ignoring that you're pretty sure your usually soft spoken drama avoidant roommate is the one who let that menace into your apartment this morning. He probably thought it would be good for you.
You won't admit he might have been right. Hwa is smug enough about it already. He practically grinned when Wooyoung had first dragged you out the door of your shared apartment earlier.
“I swear I took the spare key back last month.”
“You did.” Your best friend sing songs in response as he hands you your usual soup bowl of a mug.
“Then how did you get in here while I was sleeping? Sannie would've snitched if you'd made a copy.”
Wooyoung snorts. “Only because he couldn't come with me.”
You take a large sip of the sweet milky caffeine goodness. “If San had come with you I wouldn't have been woken up WWE style.”
Your roommate does laugh then as he hands Wooyoung some eggs.
“You would've been smothered to death instead.”
You narrow your eyes at the willowy man currently leaning one hip against your spotless kitchen countertop. “Just because you don't appreciate a little blanket burrito cuddle session does not mean the rest of us are equally ungrateful.”
Seonghwa smiles at you over the top of his own, much smaller mug, and runs a hand through his dark hair.
It's getting long now, almost as long as Wooyoung's, and you take a moment to note the similarities between the two men. It makes sense, these are the two people in the world that you spend the most time with so of course they would pick up a few traits from each other much the way Woo and San have become almost the same person in some ways after all the years of living, working and studying together every day. They both wear their hair down today, the ends almost brushing their shoulders, but where Woo is drowning in black track pants an oversized t-shirt Seonghwa looks unfairly put together in just sweats and a plain tank top.
“I have no issues with Sannie wrapping himself up in my blankets, I just have places to be.”
Hwa's voice is always soothing. You envy his easy morning routine. He’s not exactly more of an early riser than you, he's just adapted better to the hectic schedule. He’s probably already gone for his morning run, showered and had breakfast if you had to guess.
You decide to change the topic before Wooyoung stops being distracted by the food he's currently focused on not burning and butts in. You'll never end up leaving the apartment if he gets going.
“Are you working today?”
You know you could check the fridge, Hwa keeps the calendar meticulously colour coordinated, but you’re still just sleepy enough not to want to move from your current perch on one of the island stools.
“Mhm,” Your roommate hums. “Yongbok-ah called out today so I'm working the Paris flight with Hyunjin this afternoon.”
“Oh, nice.”
Seonghwa chuckles. It’s a good route. 6 to 8 hour flight time, depending on winds and turbulence, with a short layover in the city. It’s expensive there but the food is good, the views are beautiful and sometimes you're lucky enough to end up on a layover or to get sent on a little Eurotrip before coming back. Milan, Nice, Barcelona, Lisbon… there are so many short trips it's easy to take from there. It's all about scheduling and staffing, mostly at least, and you know Hwa has a fair amount of seniority now.
“Breakfast is ready.”
You let Wooyoung chatter on about his plans while Hwa inhales his food and then disappears to get ready. By the time he bundles you into your car with the large cooler bag packed full of containers of homemade food and kisses your cheek, you're less pessimistic about the day but your coffee stop on the way hadn't helped. Today is not your favourite weekday. In fact, it might just be going down in the books as A for awful after a whole coffee shop of office workers on their way to their morning shifts watched your spill earlier. The embarrassment is going to linger with you for a while yet. So of course instead of getting to the break room uninterrupted to leave their food in the fridge and sneak home in peace, you find yourself face to face with none other than Jeong Yunho whilst covered in half-dried iced coffee and with little patience left for the rest of the morning.
The always perfectly put together and effortlessly handsome shot of sunshine, best friend of your best friend has not a hair out of place. Well, okay so maybe it’s a little rumpled but he still looks gorgeous. You kind of hate him at this moment, or you would if he wasn't the actual embodiment of a golden retriever in human form. It's hard to hate someone who makes you laugh like breathing and finds a way to make even the shittiest day feel a little less brutal and exhausting.
“Good morning little bird.” Even his tone is upbeat and full of pep already.
“Put that smile away Jeong, I'm not in the mood to be laughed at this morning.”
The grin only quirks wider at one side as the man tries his best to suppress his amusement but the twinkle in his eyes betrays him. You hold up a hand and lift the tray of coffee cups towards his chest like a shield.
“Can I interest you in an iced americano?”
He considers the tray in your hand. “This is bribery I take it?”
“When do I ever do nice things for you without an ulterior motive?”
He does laugh then, carefully extracting the cup with his name scrawled on it and using one large hand to help rebalance the tray in your perilous grasp.
“Only when you've been threatened. You'll have to tell me what exactly Woo has over you one of these days. He's the only person I've ever met who can get you to do anything against your will.”
You roll your eyes. “Are you calling me stubborn?”
“Yes.”
You just sigh. “What happened in college stays in college.”
Yunho just shakes his head and you take a moment to soak in the calm presence. He's like a human battery. For every ounce of energy Wooyoung's chaos takes out of you, Yunho's soft easy warmth charges it right back. They make a good pair and you see why both your closest friends, and even your roommate, are quite fond of him. He’s always patient, great in any crisis, not to mention effortlessly gorgeous and with a glass half-full kind of personality to boot.
“Busy shift today?”
He shrugs. “Not any more than usual, so far at least. I did hear the night shift was a nightmare though. I don't envy Woo tonight.”
You shake your head as he sips his coffee. “If anyone can handle this place, it’s Woo. Give him a few more months and he'll be running the ER.”
Yunho laughs as he considers this. You can practically see him picturing it. You make eye contact and he nods.
“He is good at managing people.”
You snort. Good is an understatement.
“And he's great with the kids.”
You smile softly at that. “Mm kids and dogs always love him.”
Yunho chuckles. “Yeah he's a favourite amongst the young patients and every woman over the age of twelve.”
You can’t help the smile you share. “Casanova. Don't tell me he's out here flirting with all the aunties and grandmothers?”
Yunho just wiggles his eyebrows at you. “You know him just as well as I do.”
You sigh. “I'm starting to see why he sends me in on his days off.”
Yunho just smiles into his drink. He's grown into his gangly height over the years and you wonder if he'll stick with this hair colour. You have to admit, the honey blonde suits him more than you expected it would.
“Speaking of Wooyoung, what mission has he sent you on today?”
“Is San around? I've been voluntold to deliver you both lunch and coffee.”
Yunho just folds his arms over his chest, leaning a hip against the desk beside him. “Probably. He’s on the schedule for today but I haven't seen him yet.”
The nurses at their station don't even give the two of you a second glance. They're used to your quick visits to the floor and they have more important things to do than eavesdrop on these conversations. There’s much more interesting gossip most of the time to focus on instead anyway.
You sigh. Yunho cocks his head but before he can say anything more, a nurse shuffles over clipboard in hand and his attention immediately shifts.
“Dr. Jeong? We've had a development with Mr. Bae.”
Yunho doesn't even look at you, eyes already scanning the chart as he leans in over the petite woman's shoulder, but you know dismissal when you hear it.
“You know where the break room is, I trust you can find San without an escort?”
“I'll manage.”
You know he can't see your eyeroll but you think you catch the barest hint of a smirk on his lips from the corner of your eye as you turn to make your way down the hall. You'd make a snide comment about it but he's already walking past you, long strides eating up the space in no time as the nurse at his side struggles to keep up with his quick pace. You just shake your head and move to find your other coffee delivery recipient. Between the two of them your day is probably going to do a real one eighty, and you can’t say you aren't relieved to find it improving already.
sorry for the lack of fics lately. i've been in my word docs rambling and trying to make progress on some ongoing ao3 works.
at some point i'll get around to finding some beta readers for new things after i wrap these up and figure out a system but for now it might just be a little slow on updates around here.
I hope you're not mad. See, I've been taking medicine so I can relax. Yeah, so if you get a minute, call me back, babe. Here's hoping 20 minutes I'ma hear that phone ring. We're sorry, the number you have dialled is not in service at this time.
Mingyu was a mess who wouldn’t go to therapy and get the help he needed to clean up his act. You kept accepting his excuses and taking him back anyway until one day you finally decided you'd had enough. You were tired of always coming last. When he calls to make up this time your number is disconnected. It's time you moved on and found happiness elsewhere without him.
ex Mingyu x fem reader, hurt not so comfort, mental health is in the trash, bad coping mechanisms, angst, on and off unhealthy relationship, breakup, this one hurted a little (a lot).
Your phone hasn’t stopped buzzing for an hour. You set do not disturb and it still rings through. You sigh and flip it over. 67 missed calls from none other than your ex boyfriend. He’s not one to give up easily. It’s part of the reason you keep getting back with him. Mingyu is persistent, and unfortunately for you, good at making his apologies seem sincere. Looking and sounding sorry until he does it again. The sad puppy eyes have been your undoing more than once over the past few years.
Your phone rings again and you lift it to your ear, swiping to answer. “What do you want Gyu?”
“Oh thank god, you finally answered.”
You roll your eyes. He can’t see it. He sounds frantic and usually you’d feel bad but you’re still hurt. Still mad at him. Still aching over the breakup. It’s been weeks of no contact and yet for some reason you can’t bring yourself to delete his contact. Even when you know you’re exhausted and you don’t think you can do this again. You shake those thoughts away. The cycle needs to come to an end, and maybe today is the day you finally stand ten toes down on making it the last time you break up with him.
Even if it feels like the end of the world right now. You need to do this. Be firm. Not give in.
“Stop calling me Mingyu.”
You don’t know how you manage it but your voice barely shakes. Maybe you really are just that fed up with this.
“I can’t.” You hear a sigh on the other end of the line.
You can picture the way he runs a hand through his long hair. You close your eyes and shake your head trying to erase that image like wiping an etch a sketch, You’re not allowed to let yourself miss him. Not until you’re alone and he finally starts respecting your boundaries. You need to stay strong. Even though it feels like the hardest thing you’ve maybe ever done. You can do this. You know you can. Shua’s pep talk rings through your head as you take a breath and don’t give Mingyu an angle to work, don’t feed him a response to work with.
“I can’t stop y/n. Every time I try to forget you and move on you’re all I can think about. I’m sorry. I know that doesn’t fix it but I’ll do whatever it takes. Please. I can’t stop calling because it’s the only way to get you to talk to me. You have me blocked everywhere else.”
You shake your head. Your heart aches at the rasp in his voice, the way you can tell he's been crying, and you rub at your chest. You really do love him and you know, deep down, he loves you back in his own way. It just isn’t enough. Not anymore. Not when he won’t fix things despite all his promises and sweet words.
“Please baby.”
That breaks you. You have to take a minute to recompose yourself. You know the makeup is always so wonderful but that bliss never lasts. You’ve run out of rose coloured glasses to get you through once that honeymoon phase of his apologetic behaviour wears off and the bullshit starts again.
“I'm not your baby Mingyu. I'm not your anything anymore. You made that choice, over and over. You had chances and you fumbled them. You make this promise every week and never keep it. I'm not doing this again.”
You blink back the tears, hand pressed to your sternum like you can hold back the hurt. Like if you push hard enough against the bruising skin above your heart you can hold in the tidal wave of pain and hurtful words dying to spill out of the open wound he left you with. Like maybe there’s a way to zip it all back in. There isn’t. It’s been too long. The wound has festered, it’s overflowing, and you can’t hold back any longer. The words spill out and the honesty feels freeing.
“I'm not coming back. We're done. I meant it then and I mean it now. Stop. Calling.”
You hang up before he has a chance to beg. That's how he gets you. With promises he'll only break in a day or two, maybe a week if he's feeling particularly apologetic. With alligator tears and those pathetic sad eyes that always make you fold and forgive him for things that don't deserve forgiveness. You drop your phone on the table and lean forward, elbows on your knees and head in your hands as you let the tears fall. You've lost track of the times you've cried over Kim Mingyu. It's a miracle you even have any tears left to give now.
You make a trip to the store the next day. Exchange your phone number for a fresh new one, text all your friends the new contact information and ask that none of them share it with anyone without asking first. You spend the morning staring at your old sim card, all out of tears, feeling nothing but hollow until you snip the tiny thing into pieces and toss it in the trash. It’s done. You barely sleep, barely eat, spend hours under the shower just staring at the tiles on the wall processing that this is really over for real this time.
Joshua knocks on your door the next day and brings you a loaf of still steaming banana bread. He sits beside you on the couch with a cup of tea in hand, your silent comfort, while you delete all your old pictures and texts with Mingyu. As you slowly erase every trace of him from your life. Shua sits on your bed while you put Gyu’s things in garbage bags. As you purge all of his old belongings. Feeds you bites of the now cooled banana bread and sips of water between hugs and soft assurances that things are going to get better. Squeezes of your shoulder as he tells you that you’re doing well, that it’s going to be okay even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. He hands you tissue after tissue, wipes your tears and snot and shoos you into the shower when you stop making progress. Puts out fresh clothes and helps you dry your hair, pats on your skincare with gentle fingers as he chats and jokes and does his best to take your mind off things.
“You’re a good friend Shua.”
“I know darling. I’m here for you.”
It only takes three days for Mingyu to find out you’ve changed your number. To show up at your door with flowers and a thousand apologies pouring from his lips. With those alligator tears and promises to change and gifts every day until your hallway is filled and the concierge starts turning all his deliveries away because there’s no place to store them. You don’t answer. Even when it’s hard. You watch through the peephole the first time and that’s a massive mistake. The next time it happens, Seungkwan nearly marches right out into the hall to rip your ex a new one but takes one look at your expression and spends the entirety of Mingyu’s sad monologue holding you. It helps a little. The way he strokes your hair and rubs your back until Mingyu goes away. The next time it happens you call your brother, and Seungcheol sighs as he shows up and guides your ex away.
“Hyung please, I know she’s in there. I just need to talk to her. I know I can change her mind.”
“She doesn’t want to talk to you Gyu-ya, it’s time for you to go home. I don’t want to have to press charges.”
Moving is your next step. That takes so much out of you that it’s almost easier, you’re too busy to have time to be upset. Your friends are lifesavers, showing up to help you in any and every way they can. By the time you get settled into your little cozy one bedroom apartment just down the hall from your best friend, it almost feels like you might just get through this. It happens slowly but you find your smile again and after a few months, things stop feeling quite so heavy. Shua and Scoups are big parts of that. So is Seungkwan. They’re your rocks. So when, almost eight months post breakup, your best friends set you up on a blind date you think you might finally be ready to dip your toes back into that pool again. You don’t ask too many questions. You trust Shua and Kwannie with your life. They talk you through the nerves, help you get ready and talk you up until you feel confident and do a single good luck shot with you before sending you out the door.
You’re early, only by a few minutes, but it gives you time to pace. You try taking deep breaths. You know it’s going to be fine but you get so lost in your own thoughts and worries that you nearly bump into someone. You blink and step back.
“Oh, I’m so sorry.”
“No, no it’s okay. It’s my fault. I wasn’t paying attention. Are you… wait y/n?”
Your breath nearly knocks itself right out of your chest. “Gyu?”
He looks good. Better than he ever did while you were dating. He looks polished, like he’s finally taken the time to look after himself.
“What are you doing here?”
His voice is soft, but the tiniest hint of a smile pulls at his lips, as if he wants to be happy to see him but he’s not quite sure his presence is welcome. Maybe it isn’t. You don’t know. You’re just tired of being upset with him, of having a million questions with no answers, of blaming him for everything that broke down between you. You’re tired of being upset.
“Would you believe me if I said I was on a date?”
That makes his face twist but he pulls it together, offering you a sad smile. “I guess it’s about time you moved on.”
You shrug. “It wasn’t planned.”
“It doesn’t matter if it was y/n, you don’t owe me anything. You were right. I needed to sort out my priorities. I don’t have any claim on you or any right to be upset with the way you choose to live your life now without me.”
He really does seem to have changed. You’re not sure you trust it just yet but you find yourself wanting to. You look around.
“You look better.”
His smile is real this time. “I feel better. Scoups hyung helped me find a therapist, and a new job, and started dragging me to the gym.”
You smile back a little hesitantly. “That sounds nice, I’m happy for you.”
And you are. It’s easier now, seeing that he isn’t struggling, to find a little forgiveness in your heart.
“I don’t know if I’m ready to say it’s okay just yet.”
He shakes his head. “Please don’t. It wasn’t okay and you don’t have to forgive me, you already did enough of that for both of us.”
You nod.
Mingyu smiles softly. “Good luck on your date y/n, maybe I’ll see you around.”
You do smile back then. “Yeah, thank you, maybe you will. Good luck Gyu.”
And this time, when he walks away you don’t feel your heart aching.
With your lips and your thighs you pull them closer to mine.
You struggle with your mental health and Woozi wants to help but there's only so much he can do. You need to be the one to pull yourself out of those places but he can be a support when you need someone to lean on so you don't relapse or listen and hold your hand when you need someone to talk to. In the end his patience always wins out and helps you claw your way out of the mental funk. You make a great team and he definitely appreciates the way you show your gratitude in more than words.
bf Jihoon x fem reader, supportive healthy relationship, reader deals with depression, patient sweetheart Woozi is there to be leaned on until you find the strength to pull yourself out of it. Soft domestic mostly comfort.
It’s been a long day, a long night, a long week. You’re exhausted when you finally make it home, silently slipping out of your work clothes and dropping face first onto the bed. Jihoon hovers in the doorway but doesn’t say a word, even as he steps into the room to root through a few drawers and hand you an oversized t-shirt. This wordless communication has become a routine, especially lately.
You’ve both been so busy neither of you has much energy left at the end of the night for small talk and you’ve been finding yourself struggling to muster up the spark to get back into more of a quiet winding down in the evenings, even with Jihoon who’s usually happy to sit and read or watch a show with you while you both eat and exchange few words. You’ve stopped making time to curl up on the sofa with his head in your lap, cooking together on Friday evenings, or even sitting with a glass of wine and your temple resting against one of your boyfriend’s large biceps as he works, lost in the world in his laptop screen or locked away in his studio with you comfortably folded into his lap cheek pressed to one strong shoulder as you lay half asleep against his chest.
Your usual routines are crumbling and you don’t even have it in you to be sorry for not having the capacity to fake these little moments right now. Jihoon seems to understand. You find yourself tucked in, a soft kiss pressed to your forehead as he ferries you food and water and makes sure you’re comfortably propped against the headboard. You barely manage to mumble out a thank you. Your boyfriend just smiles softly and reaches over to brush a hand through your hair fondly. You fall asleep quickly that night, cradled in the circle of his arms, but fail to notice how he lingers awake for hours after your breathing evens out.
“I wish I could do more for you.”
This quiet acceptance lasts a week before Jihoon takes your hand, leads you over to the couch, and asks what’s wrong one night when you get home a little earlier than usual. You try to brush it off but he isn’t having that. Jihoon is okay with silence, with giving you time to process, but he won’t accept avoidance. You know you need to face this, he’s right, but you’re just so tired and the way he looks at you with pity in those pretty brown eyes just sets you off. You end up pushing him away, insisting everything is fine, saying things you don’t mean and starting a fight instead of fixing anything.
“Hoon, it’s fine. I’m just overworked right now. I just need to get through this project.”
“Bullshit.”
“Leave it alone.”
“No y/n, you’re not okay.”
“I don’t need a babysitter Jihoon. I’m a grown woman. I can handle it.”
“I’m not micromanaging you, I just want you to talk to me.”
“I don’t want to talk, I’m exhausted. I just want to go to bed. Get out of the way.”
“Y/n, please.”
“Stop looking at me like that, I don’t need your pity.”
“You need a break.”
“I need you to leave me alone.”
“No baby, I’m sorry but I can’t do that.”
“Oh fuck off, I need some room to think.”
Still, he remains patient. Your sweet boyfriend, understanding and kind to a fault sometimes because he knows you need that gentle approach even when you drive him crazy. He doesn’t snap back, just steps away and the hurt in his eyes sends you fleeing to the bathroom to cry under the spray of the shower like neither of you knows you’re falling apart in the steam from the water you’ve set so hot it burns your skin. You just need to feel something, and for now at least this is working.
He doesn’t join you in bed that night but when you exit the bathroom your favourite t-shirt of his is laid out on the bed, warm from the dryer and spritzed with a fresh dose of his cologne just for you. He’s also left a cup of tea on your night stand and an advil for the headache he already knows you’re going to have.
“Oh Hoon…I’m so sorry. It isn’t you, I just… god I don’t even know what I need right now.”
That isn’t the night you decide you need to buckle down and find your way out of this, but it does get you thinking. Progress is slow but you start making more of an effort. At first it’s just little things, lacing your fingers together when Jihoon reaches for your hand and dragging yourself out to the living room to sit with him even when you want nothing more than to crawl under the covers and sleep for three days. Pressing soft kisses to his shoulder, jaw, collarbone or the back of his hand when he pulls you close or brings you something to drink or shares bites of his snacks to make sure you’re eating.
The little things start adding up until doing more feels less and less impossible. You spend a little more time in the living room with Jihoon, make time for a few more coffee dates and quiet homemade dinners in with your closest friends, getting back to cooking together once a week even if more days than not you’re perched on the counter while Jihoon does most of the talking and actual work. You’re grateful for the nights when he holds you close and lets you vent or cry or just say nothing at all, lulled to sleep by his soothing steady heartbeat.
“I hate feeling this way.”
Jihoon opens his arms as you step into your shared apartment. You’re shattered but you come bearing a bag of freshly baked croissants from Shua and a tupperware stuffed to the brim with Mingyu’s homemade remedy for everything that ever ails you - your favourite soup. You drop them on the kitchen counter and sink into the bear hug. Your boyfriend rocks you both slowly, humming your favourite song under his breath as you take a deep breath and squeeze him tightly.
“I just feel empty, even when I know I should be happy. I have everything going for me. You’re wonderful, our friends are so lovely, and life is good right now. I don’t know why I’m struggling.”
Jihoon rests his cheek against the top of your head. The small height difference between you is just enough to make you comfortable with your head tucked against his chest, listening to his heart and trying to match his slow breaths.
“Your brain is just feeling mean today.”
You laugh softly. “Just today?”
He hums a soft thinking sound before acquiescing. “Okay so maybe she’s been a little mean for a while now, but you’re trying.”
You sigh, snuggling deeper into his hold like there’s any space left between you to close. Jihoon’s hands tighten on your hips, squeezing lightly to remind you he’s not going anywhere. You blow out a breath, relaxing a little in his firm hold.
“I wish this wasn’t so hard.”
Jihoon just presses a kiss to your temple. “I know. You’re doing your best baby.”
“Sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough.”
He just tucks your face into the crook of his neck and rubs your back until the tears stop falling. His constant presence and familiar scent help too. The way he hovers sometimes frustrates you and sometimes makes you smile.
“I need to brush my teeth, but I don’t want to get up. I feel so heavy today.”
Jihoon sits with you for the hour it takes to force yourself off the sofa, arm looping around your waist to steady you when you stumble over your own feet, and follows you into the bathroom. He doesn’t chatter on, doesn’t provide motivational speeches, just nods in encouragement and leans against the countertop beside you. He provides a soothing presence, and a little external accountability, just what you need to push you to get things done. It helps that there’s no judgement in his eyes on the hard days when you don’t manage to get anything done, that there’s someone there for you to come home to and arms to collapse into without saying much. A listening ear when you just need to let out the frustration with yourself or the crushing weight of all the things you are and aren’t feeling. A hand reaching out to pull you from the current when it gets too much, or to hold on with a grounding little squeeze of reassurance that reminds you that you aren’t alone when you just need to sit in it all. It feels like nothing changes at all for a while but at least you aren’t drowning anymore.
Then, one day you wake up and the sun feels so nice in your face you can’t help smiling to yourself. You turn to find Jihoon still fast asleep, his arms banding tighter around you as you reach over to brush the dark hair out of his face. He murmurs and stirs slightly but his eyes stay firmly closed and you nuzzle closer to the warmth of his bare skin. It almost glows in the morning light streaming in through your curtains.
“Good morning my love. Thank you for sticking with me through this.”
He doesn’t respond but you didn’t expect him to. Instead you trail soft kisses from one wrist up his arm, slow and gentle, just expressing your gratitude for every time he’s held you through a rough patch or tough day with your lips. You pepper butterfly kisses across the entire span of his shoulder, smiling to yourself as you map out his soft skin in your own time. He blinks his eyes open and looks at you as you trail those same lazy kisses up his neck, across both cheeks and over his nose, along his jaw and temple. Jihoon just sighs and lets you, the hand on your waist resting heavily in place as his thumb strokes a simple back and forth rhythm on the slice of skin where your tank top has ridden up.
“Good morning. What’s all this about?”
His voice is still rough with sleep, and barely loud enough for you to hear him.
“I’m expressing my gratitude.”
Jihoon chuckles softly. “Oh, yeah?”
“Mhm.” You continue to trail kisses over his skin, leaning up to press your lips to his.
He doesn’t protest. He pulls you closer until you’re pressed flush against his chest and something about his hold makes you feel more safe and secure than you know how to express. You try to show him, pulling him back in and deepening the kiss. He makes a soft noise in the back of his throat but doesn’t stop you. You’re not in a rush, you take your time exploring his mouth, hands sliding down his chest to trace shapes against his skin. He shivers when your fingers brush over his nipples and you take the opportunity to arch into him further.
“I love you.”
His reply is muffled against your lips as his hand slides lower. You wrap your legs around him and giggle into the kiss as he rolls you both over until he’s hovering above you, eyes full of fondness and laughter. You trace his smile with your fingers and he doesn’t miss the chance to kiss each of them in turn.
“Are you sure?”
You nod, smiling back at him with all the love you feel shining in your gaze. He doesn’t ask again. One tug as you slip your hands into his hair is all it takes to have him taking full advantage and making you moan his name. When he's buried inside you and you cup his face as your eyes lock, he knows you're going to make it through this and your relationship is going to be alright. When you get up to shower and make him breakfast after, finally peeling yourself away from the post-haze cuddle session you’d both melted into together, he sees you smiling over your cup of coffee and he knows the worst is over again.
The rest of the day feels easier somehow, like you can finally breathe again. Jihoon doesn’t say much but his frown is gone, the furrow between his brows where he carried his concern has softened. You spend the rest of the afternoon curled up together on the couch, wrapped in your familiar soft quiet intimacy. You’re a team again, just like always, and you feel secure in the knowledge that Jihoon will be beside you through every bad day to come and you’ll figure out how to navigate them together until the clouds clear.
Well, I don't give a fuck about your friends I'm right here. Oh, baby, take a look around. I'm the only one that hasn't walked out.
Minghao Doesn't care what other people say about your relationship or whether your friends like him because at the end of the day they always end up leaving you out of things, hurting you, being replaced or growing apart from you and he stays. He’s always going to be here when you need him. Can they say the same?
bsf Hao x fem reader, your friends suck and who else is there to pick up the pieces whenever they let you down but your always reliable best friend Minghao. DJs Hao and Vernon, it's the last time your so called friends let you down, you finally give in and admit Hao is more than just a fwb.
You dial a familiar number, sipping the drink you’ve been nursing for nearly an hour now. It’s the third time this week that your friends have let you down. This time their excuse for not showing up is that they mixed up the dates of this night out you’ve had planned for months, they already made other plans they can’t bail on. Surely you’ll understand. This behaviour isn’t new. You used to overlook it, just thinking they genuinely got busy and confused plans or mixed up dates on their calendar. Lately though, it’s become such a pattern that even you can’t write the way they continuously brush you off as accidental anymore.
So you call the one person who’s never let you down since you first met in middle school, your something more than a best friend but something less than a boyfriend - Minghao. It isn’t fair the way you string him along without committing, you know it isn’t, but neither of you ever speaks about it. You’re pretty sure he’s just waiting for you to admit you’re in love with him, something you realized months ago now and you’re sure he already knew. His patience far outweighs yours. You press call. He picks up on the first ring.
“Hao.”
“Hello darling, how are drinks with the girls going?”
It sounds loud but you can’t tell if the noise is coming from your end of the line or his. It doesn’t really matter. His voice is soothing even though he has to speak up for you to hear over the music thumping in the background.
You sigh, always feeling like an idiot when you have to admit they’ve left you out. “It isn’t.”
“Hmm?”
Hao makes a lot of judgments, you know how he feels about your friends, but he never makes his thoughts on them your problem. You appreciate it. You feel stupid enough right now for letting them walk all over you once again. You’ve decided it’s the last time you’re going to let it slide, but you’ll figure out what to do about it and how to finally cut them off tomorrow. Right now you just want a little comfort, or maybe reassurance? You’re not entirely sure. All you know is you’d like to not continue having to drink alone tonight and you’d like to turn this sour mood around before the night ends.
“They stood me up.”
“Again?”
You both know he expected this. He told you as much when he helped you pick out what dress to wear last week. You hate admitting he’s right but then, he usually is. Minghao is oddly good at reading people and their true intentions. It’s a skill you envy sometimes.
“Yes. Again.”
“You should stop letting them get away with treating you like this.”
It’s a conversation you’ve had more times than you care to count over the last year and a half since the behaviour started to escalate.
“I’m done Hao, I promise, but can we talk about that later? I just want to have a nice night.”
“You don’t need them for that.”
You smile softly. “I know.”
“You don’t need overpriced drinks at that shitty bar they keep insisting on dragging you out to either.”
That makes you laugh into your glass. Minghao has a lot of disdain for the place your friends like. He has a point. The drinks are expensive, and not even that good, and the whole place is just all about image. Your friends use it to sell a picture of themselves, the aesthetic photos and indirect bragging that they’re able to get exclusive vip tables whenever they want. They post a million stories whenever you come here, hoping to show a certain lifestyle you know isn’t really how any of them spend most of their time.
“Did you have something else in mind?”
You can almost hear the smirk through the phone. “Yeah, come watch Hansol and I play tonight instead. You can stay up in the DJ booth with us and actually enjoy yourself. Plus we play music that doesn’t suck.”
“How do you even know the music sucks here?” As far as you’re aware he’s only been once, and that was just a quick pop in to pick you up when you got way too drunk on Aerin’s birthday.
“Turn around.”
You do, on instinct, and it takes a moment to be able to focus enough but then you spot him. Minghao lifts his glass in a mock salute from where he stands just a few feet away, lounging against a concrete pole and watching you. You down your drink, hang up, and grab your purse. Your tab is already paid and honestly, getting out of here has never sounded better.
“Hello darling.” He’s practically purring when you make your way over and you have to shake your head at the confidence.
“You knew they weren’t going to turn up.”
He nods.
“So you followed me here to what? Sweep in and save the day?”
Hao raises a brow and finishes his drink in one long swallow. “I figured you might want an out.”
He’s right. He usually is. You just sigh and nudge him lightly with your shoulder.
“You look too good to let that dress go to waste on people who aren’t going to appreciate the effort you put in for them tonight.”
You roll your eyes but let him slip an arm around your waist and pull you into his side.
“You just want to get me out of it.”
He grins, leading you towards the door. “Later. FIrst I plan to appreciate the way it hugs every inch of you while you’re dancing along to remixes I made and watching me like I’m the only man in the room.”
“Confident, are we?”
“Mm, are you saying I shouldn’t be?”
The easy banter has you both smiling as you exit the bar and Minghao sweeps you into a cab, giving the address of the club where he and his friends work on weekends for the free alcohol and excuse to indulge in their hobbies.
“No, I’m just saying maybe you’re getting cocky.”
Minghao presses a kiss to your temple. “Tell me that again when you’re waking up in my bed tomorrow morning begging to go again and letting me make you breakfast even though we both know I can’t cook for shit.”
You don’t refute that, you both know you can’t. His smirk grows and you shake your head, but take the hand he offers anyway and lace your fingers together without another word.
“Maybe you were right.”
You break the silence when he helps you out of the taxi and he blinks.
“About what princess? I’m right about a lot of things.”
You just smile softly and wait on the curb while he pays for your ride. You know he’s going to make you say it even though you both understand. You wait until the cab drives off and he turns back to you, slipping his wallet back into the back pocket of his oversized jeans.
“You really are the only one who never left my side.”
He smiles and slings an arm around your shoulders, bringing your cheek to his. “I told you y/n, I’m right here whenever you need me. And even when you don’t.”
“I know. It’s why I keep calling. You always show up.”
He smiles softly, shakes his head and steps back a little. You just watch, leaning into the touch when his hand moves to rest against the small of your back.
“I’m not going anywhere, love.”
“Thank you.”
It’s so soft, so quiet, that you’re not sure he hears you as you walk together towards the club. But the way he pulls you a little closer as you walk past the line and the soft kiss he presses to your forehead as he shakes hands with the bouncer and walks you inside says he does. You think tonight might just be the night where his patience wins out and you make the choice you know he’s been waiting for. You’re not going to bother yourself about those fake friends anymore but Minghao? You’re not letting him walk away tomorrow without finally giving this thing between you a label. The way he smiles as he helps you up onto the small stage behind the booth, and the grip he keeps on your hand the whole time he greets Hansol tells you he knows he’s won. You just down the shot he hands you and smile back, letting your body fall into the rhythm of your friend’s music. He was right, it is better here, and you can feel Minghao’s breath on your ear as he sways behind you.
“I told you this place was more fun.”
You just laugh and reach back to settle his hands on your hips. “Okay, I’ll admit you and Sollie have much better music taste.”
You reach over to high five Hansol who smiles at the compliment before turning back to his work.
“And the vibe is infinitely less stuffy.”
Minghao laughs and you feel it vibrate through you where his chest presses against your back as he leans in to speak so only you can hear him.
“Fuck your awful friends darling, you should spend every weekend here with me instead.”
You shiver when he punctuates the end of that sentence with a little nibble on your earlobe.
“I’ll consider it.”
Your voice comes out breathier than you intend and you know he notices. The hands on your hips pull you back into him like there’s any space left between your bodies to close, and Minghao’s chin rests on your bare shoulder as he watches the crowd while you dance together. He doesn’t say anything for a minute. Doesn’t need to. The silence is peaceful. You both know you’re back where you belong now.
“Tell me you’re not going to walk out of my apartment tomorrow and pretend we’re just friends with benefits or whatever you keep telling those people.”
You hum softly and rest a hand over one of his, shaking your head. “No Hao, I don’t care what they think anymore. You’re still here and they never have been. I’m done pretending you don’t mean everything.”
The way he looks at you when you turn around in his arms is exactly what you’ve spent so long trying to find in other people. His gaze is soft, fond, and the smile curving his lips just begs for you to kiss it. So you do. That makes him laugh, His arms wind around your waist and you reach up to slip your own around his neck, fingers sliding into the soft hair at the nape of his neck.
“It suits you when you grow your hair out like this.”
He just shakes his head and leans in to press his forehead to yours. “Say it again.”
You smile. “What, that I’m yours?”
He hums softly.
“Hao, I always have been.”
He sighs softly. “I know. I just needed to hear you say it.”
Your smile only grows as he leans back to brush some stray hair behind your ear.
“I’ll say it as many times as you need, but right now I think you’re up.”
He glances over your shoulder to see that Hansol’s set is indeed coming to an end. Hansol just winks at you both as he hands over the controls, slips the headphones around Hao’s neck, and disappears into the crowd.
“I’m holding you to that as soon as we get to my place.” Minghao whispers in your ear as he sets up, refusing to let you move from where he has you pinned between him and the deck. “I want to hear you repeat it all night long, love.”
And you do. The words roll off your tongue from the moment his apartment door closes behind you until the sun streams in through the gauzy curtains hanging in front of the windows. When you wake tucked into rumpled sheets to the smell of burning green onion pancakes, your smile feels like it might split your entire face in half. It's so wide.
It turns out you don’t have to think about how to show up your shitty ex-friends. You open your phone to check the slew of notifications only to find that Hao posted several stories, and even tagged you in a post, showing everyone who turned you down last night for their “better plans” that you had way more fun without them. You don't really care how annoyed they are that you aren't coming crawling back because when you look up Minghao leans against the doorframe, arms crossed loosely over his chest, hair still ruffled from the way you ran your hands through it last night, dressed in a pair of sweatpants that hang just low enough on his hips to tempt you to drag him back into bed.
The amusement dancing in his eyes says he noticed. “Good morning darling.”
You climb out from under the covers and throw on his shirt, still draped over the chair in the corner where it landed when you got back. “Good morning Hao.”
You let him take your hand and when you follow him into the kitchen you can’t help laughing. “You should have let me help.”
It’s a mess. You can still smell the burnt rejected attempts he’s tossed in the garbage but the table is set with fresh flowers, a pot of your favourite fruity tea, and there’s more food than you know either of you can possibly finish.
“I mean, it looks great but how many tries did it take you?”
Minghao just sighs. “I gave up after the third batch still didn’t come out right. This is from that little diner you like a few blocks down.”
You just smile and lean up to kiss his cheek. “Thank you for trying.”
“I think I’m going to need more lessons with my mother before I make breakfast successfully.”
His determination shines through and you laugh softly.
“I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it eventually.”
He gets your chair for you. “Mm, but today this will have to do. Sit down and eat up, I’m taking you to meet my family properly this afternoon.”
You nearly choke on the one sip of water you’ve managed. “So soon?”
He shrugs and slides into the seat opposite you. “They’re in town for a visit, I didn’t want to wait.”
You just smile and let him start loading all of your favourites onto your plate.
“You really don’t leave anything to chance, huh?”
He smiles. “I play to win, love. And I don’t plan on ever not showing you off.”
“I noticed that.”
Neither of you stops smiling for the rest of the day. His patience really did win in the end.
hii i was wondering if u cld make a cute little woozi fic where hes very clingyy after work n reader takes care of him :3
ofc! woozi is always a fun little challenge to write haha. I hope this is what you had in mind.
cozy clingy woozi x reader, domestic fluff, babying, jihoon is very sleepy.
It's nearly seven when Jihoon steps into the apartment and the sun is still finding its place in the sky. You don't hear the door at first, so busy making a second cup of coffee that you miss the sound of quiet footsteps dragging along down the hall. It's not until he steps up behind you, chin resting on your shoulder, that you register he's home.
"Hi baby."
Woozi just presses a kiss to your cheek and steals the mug of warm caffeinated goodness from your hands. It's his sleepy form of greeting. You watch as he shuffles over to the sofa, sipping coffee the whole way.
"Have you slept?"
He grunts as you follow, setting the empty mug on the coffee table and tugging you onto his lap. "Soonyoung interrupted my nap."
You do your best to stifle your laugh, but the way he narrows his tired eyes at you says you haven't completely succeeded and holding back the smile. Your amusement must be contagious because he just sighs and pulls you closer. You squeak, arms slipping around his neck, and watch as he leans his head against the back of the couch.
"He has been known to do that."
"Hmm."
Jihoon's eyes flutter shut and you take the opportunity to reach up and run your fingers through his hair. It's a mess, escaping the tie he had it pulled up into at some point and floating around his face. He hums contently and leans into the soft touch. You give it a few minutes before shoving at his shoulder and trying to get up. Trying being the imperative word because Jihoon's arms tighten around you until you can't move.
"Hoon..."
He peels one eye open to regard you suspiciously. It reminds you so much of a grumpy cat being woken from their nap. You sigh and shake your head, leaning in to kiss his nose. He scrunches it but doesn't pull back.
"Let me go please."
"I like you here, it's comfortable."
You wiggle in his grasp. "Too bad, you need a shower and I was in the middle of making breakfast. Food first, then you can sleep."
He huffs but considers this. "Does this sleep come with cuddles?"
"As many as you want."
He's going to hold you to that. He always does when he's clingy like this. He's adorable when he's tired but you'll never tell him that or he'll stop seeking out your affection just out of principle. He groans as you climb back to your feet and drag him up off the couch, using the excuse to pull you into his arms and sway back and forth for another few minutes before letting you go again.
"More coffee?" You ask as he shuffles off down the hall.
"Can I have two please?"
"That bad huh?"
"Soonyoung spent three hours making me record a song about how he stole Seungcheol's hat."
You whistle. That might be a new record. It's not exactly unexpected but you're starting to understand why your boyfriend is feeling extra clingy today. Soonyoung is lovely, but he can also be a lot. Jihoon's social battery is probably in need of a recharge.
"I'll make a whole pot."
When he emerges from the bathroom again your boyfriend looks much more alive. His blonde hair is still damp and he's thrown on his comfiest t-shirt and shorts. It takes about two more cups of coffee to get actual words out of him and he spends the whole time you're cooking pressed against your back with one arm looped around your shoulders silently tasting everything you pass him without question.
The sleepy cat behaviour continues as you eat, Jihoon reaching over to tug your chair closer to his when you sit too far away but protesting when you try to feed him even a single bite. He lingers close while helping you with the dishes, cheek resting against your shoulder, and when you finally declare it's time for a nap he can't shuffle you along to the bedroom fast enough.
"Lee Jihoon," Your attempt at scolding doesn't really land because you can't seem to keep the smile from creeping into your tone. "what's the rush? I'm not going anywhere."
"We have like half an hour before someone needs something from me, if we're lucky." He mumbles against the back of your neck.
"Tell them to bother Cheol."
He grunts. "Scoups hyung is tired."
"So are you."
He doesn't reply to that but he does slow down just a little.
"Here, hand over your phone. I'll put it on silent and if someone needs something urgent they'll ring through and I can talk to them while you get some rest."
He doesn't hesitate. The phone ends up on your bedside table and your boyfriend's head nestles into your lap as you lean back against the headboard, fingers carding through his hair. Woozi lets his eyes drift closed. You sit in silence for a while until you think he's fallen asleep and his soft murmur makes you jump a little.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"Making sure I rest."
You laugh softly and lean down to press a soft kiss to his forehead. "Your members do that too."
"It's not the same."
"So what you're saying is my cuddles are better?"
"Yes." Silence for a minute as he adjusts his position a little, leaning further into your touch. "I'm not dealing with them sulking if you bring it up in front of them though. You can handle that."
Throw another stone at a glass house. He might kick my ass if he finds out. I don't wanna share, it's a damn shame. I'll still play it fair, won't drop no names.
Wonwoo knows that you only come to him when the guy you're casually seeing fucks up. That you use him when you're fighting. He's fully aware that you post showing him off to make someone else jealous. And yet he's the one you always come back to. The one you get vulnerable with. He doesn't have to fight for your attention, he already has it. Even better if that makes your boy toy mad. He's the one who gets you exclusively in the end. He doesn't have to fight when you keep choosing him.
fwb Wonu x fem reader, toxic relationship, you're on and off with your bf, Wonwoo is a little smug, he doesn't have to be posessive bc all it takes is one small disagreement and you're jumping into his arms again.
It’s Wednesday when he sees the first signs. The first cracks in your composure. You don’t make it obvious at first, no one else would even notice, but he knows you. The way you stop posting. Radio silence. No stories, no quotes, no change in the wattage of your smile in your friends’ posts. On Thursday you repost something vague, that no one else would read too much into. It could mean anything. Sprinkled in with clips of your night out with the girls, and goofy pictures from your sleepover at your sister’s it’s not out of place. He sees the little details though. The lack of an arm slung around your waist, the backless dress that clings to you like pure sin, the matching pyjamas where everyone else has chosen pants but you sit there with your legs exposed in shorts so dangerously small you’ve purposely posed strategically not to let anything show, just barely. It’s Friday when you first hit him up. At first it’s just a fairly innocent suggestion to get drinks. He smirks. You both know that two glasses of somaek will have you draping yourself all over him. He agrees. Tells you to meet him at your favourite bar. What’s the point if no one sees you after all? He makes sure to choose the black dress shirt you keep saying makes his shoulders look extra broad, leaves two more buttons than he would usually deem proper unbuttoned to frame the simple silver chain you gifted him for his birthday a few years ago, and tops it all off with a few spritzes of the cologne that always has you dragging your nose along his neck when he hugs you just to sniff him.
He’s early. That’s not a surprise. It’s expected at this point that you’ll find Wonwoo already comfortably seated with a drink in hand. He’s at the bar, dark jeans doing wonderful things for those powerful thighs, and nursing his second beer of the night when you arrive. He sees you coming from across the room because of course he does, he would know the way you make the room feel electric anywhere and the sinfully short red dress doesn’t make you any harder to spot in the crowd. He lets you make the first move. You always do.
“Wonu,” Your voice is almost a purr as you come up behind where he sits perched on a stool and wrap your arms around his neck.
You always sound happy to see him. He takes a sip of his drink, just taking in the way you lean over one shoulder to press your cheek against his. You’re still too sober, not yet teetering in those heels and leaning into his side to steady yourself. Good. That means you know exactly what you’re doing here. He’s not in a rush, you’ll figure out one day that the loser you keep going back to isn’t the right one for you. Tonight you’re with him. You end up in his arms, in his bed, every time you’re fighting. It will happen again.
“Long time no see Jeon.”
He chuckles, turning to glance up at you. “It’s only been two weeks.”
Your nose scrunches and you drop into his lap, leaning over the counter to ask the bartender for a glass of wine and a whiskey on the rocks. The latter is for him. He takes a moment to appreciate the way the low neckline of your dress stretches, and the opportunity to slip an arm around your waist. You lean back into his touch easily, without even thinking.
“Two weeks too long. I missed my best friend.”
He rolls his eyes but lets a hand trail up your thigh. “You mean you missed my dick.”
You sigh, shoving at his shoulder with absolutely no conviction. “And your handsome face.”
“Don’t forget my wicked tongue.”
You shake your head but you’re smiling as you slide his drink over and take a sip from your glass. “Among other things.”
It takes almost no time to slip into your usual banter. He lets you talk, filling him in about your week and chatting about mutual friends. He watches the way you don’t even seem to realize you’re leaning into him until you’re practically slurring into his neck, arms around his shoulders as you plaster yourselves chest to chest. He just tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, presses a kiss to your forehead and lifts you gently to your feet.
“Time to get you home sweetheart.”
Your whine would be annoying if it wasn’t so adorable. If it didn’t have you clinging tighter to him. He doesn’t get a chance to coerce you before someone steps up to the bar beside you. He’s too close. Too sure. When Wonwoo glances up he sees why. It’s your latest boy toy. The sad excuse for a man you’ve been casually seeing for nearly a year now. It’s the longest anyone else has ever lasted. He’s starting to get tired of the punk, always pissing you off and then expecting you to come crawling back to him.
“Wonuuuuuu.” You tuck yourself closer to his chest, eyes too wide to be innocent doing their best to focus on his face when he looks down at you.
“Yes darling?”
“You’re so pretty.”
Your honesty makes him laugh. You never stop with the compliments when you’re tipsy, you’re like this with everyone, but it never fails to surprise him just how much it floors him every time.
“So are you.”
The man behind you clears his throat. You sigh. Wonwoo narrows his eyes but doesn’t step in. He doesn’t need to handle this. You’re already squinting at your…ex? He makes to take you from Wonwoo’s grasp, hand sneaking around your waist a little too low to be doing anything but trying to cop a feel. You slap it away and frown.
“You!”
“Come on baby, it was just one time.” Even his voice sounds weak and sleazy.
Wonwoo has to drag you out of there before you get both of you arrested. You’re still swinging when he leans down, folds you over one shoulder, and carries you outside. It doesn’t take long to catch a cab and then you’re sulking the entire ride back to his apartment. That’s just fine. You don’t take much distracting. He knows exactly how to make it up to you. It starts with pressing you up against his apartment door, lips trailing down your neck, and ends with you nestled between his legs in a rapidly cooling bath head lolling sleepily against his chest. He presses a soft kiss to your temple and you hum contently. Still just clinging to consciousness.
When you blink tired, but satisfied, eyes open and tilt your head to look up at him he doesn’t bother hiding the soft smile that slips across his face. Doesn’t shutter the fondness in his gaze. You reach up clumsily to trace your fingers along his cheek, down his jaw. He relaxes a little more fully when you wiggle closer, other arm settling around his waist.
“You always did know just how to placate me.” Your voice is just a whisper.
He grins. “Among other things.”
That makes you laugh and he sees that you’re sobering up as you sigh and nuzzle your face against the bare skin of his shoulder. He runs a hand through your wet hair, stroking it slowly.
“Why can I never just date someone good for me?”
He shrugs. “You like the chase. It’s more fun when you make it a game.”
You snort. “For all of five minutes. No one keeps things interesting like you.”
He kisses the tip of your nose and pulls you closer, not that there’s really any space left between you to close.
“You had to come to that conclusion on your own.”
“Have you been waiting all this time? For me to catch up?”
He rests his cheek against the top of your head. “Not the whole time, in the beginning it was just fun for both of us. Somewhere along the line, I realized I didn’t want it to end.” He admits quietly.
You don’t answer. It’s silent for a moment. When you speak again your voice sounds certain. Like you’ve already decided.
“And if I said this was it?”
His breath hitches.
“If I told you I was done with games, with Gaon, for good this time?”
You nearly ripped the heart right out of his chest. He takes a few moments to settle it. Then, so slowly, he lays his hand over the one you have resting on his chest. You watch as he laces your fingers together and brings it to his lips.
“I would say I always knew you’d choose me in the end.”
“Mm, I guess I didn’t exactly make it subtle.”
He laughs then.
When you fall asleep, in his shirt and tucked into his covers, he snaps a quick photo. It’s the first one he’s kept. And when you slip into his discarded black button down in the morning, dragging him over to the mirror behind you, this time you don’t crop his face out of the photo. It’s the first time you’ve posted him where he’s clearly recognizable. This time he knows it isn’t for anyone else. He makes you watch yourself fall apart around him in that very same mirror, and when he reaches for your hand to take you to breakfast after he doesn’t think about the way you’re going to let go later. You’re not walking away today, or ever again. He lets himself smile about it until you climb onto his lap and ask him what’s got him in such a good mood that he’s glowing with it. The way you melt and take cover in the crook of his neck when he says you is worth the off the charts level of cringe he feels in the moment. He won, fair and square, and he never has to share you again.
just a little best friend hoshi x roommate woozi drabble. mostly fluff, entirely crack, it's pretty short.
It's easy to leave your week behind. All it takes is one text asking your best friend what he wants for dinner, and using the spare key he gave you last month for the first time since he moved into the new apartment. You don’t announce yourself, just step into Soonyoung's condo like you own the place bags of takeout in one hand and your purse slipping off your shoulder as you struggle to shut the door with your other hand without dropping your keys on the entrance mat. Thankfully Jihoon is home and he appears, silent as a cat, just in time to sigh and roll his eyes before nudging you out of the way.
"Why didn't you just ask for help?"
He shuts the door easily, scooping the keys dangling precariously from your fingers into one hand and depositing them in the dish on the table down the hall, and freeing your other hand from the bags of food.
"I didn't need help, I was handling it just fine on my own."
He snorts. "You were about to cause a disaster."
You open your mouth to argue but he's already stalked off towards the kitchen. You just slip your feet out of the pumps that are starting to pinch at the toes and follow.
"You live with Soonyoung, you should be used to disasters by now."
He doesn’t respond verbally to that, just shoos you towards his roommate's room while he sets the bags on the counter and starts unpacking all the food. You don’t try to argue, there's no point. Jihoon is more stubborn than a mule and you do want to change into something more comfortable. Your work clothes are cute, but not exactly conducive to relaxing in. You borrow a pair of Soonyoung's sweatpants, rolling the waistband a couple times to keep from stepping on the hems, and smile to yourself when you find your drawer full of clean clothes. Jihoon had probably washed them. He did most of the laundry in the apartment.
When you finally emerged twenty minutes later, makeup free with your hair thrown up and in your favourite soft worn t-shirt, Soonyoung is just coming in the door. He makes more noise than one person should be capable of, already shouting about his day as he puts his keys and jacket away and wiggles out of his shoes. Jihoon stops where he stands in the kitchen, glass of water in hand, nods towards the unpacked food and takes his cue to disappear just as silently as he arrived to rescue you at the door earlier. By the time Soonyoung steps into the living room his roommate is long gone, door to his room quietly closed, and you barely have a moment to brace yourself before you're swept into a hug.
"Y/N!"
"Soonie, I love you but I can't breathe."
He doesn’t care. He does however loosen his grip on your ribs just enough that they stop protesting. You sigh but melt into the contact, rubbing his back lightly until he finally releases you and steps back.
"Welcome home."
His grin is contagious. You can’t help smiling back.
"Go change, I'll make you up a plate."
"What about Jihoon?"
You shake your head and shove him towards his bedroom.
"Jihoon would like some peace an quiet tonight."
Soonyoung frowns. "He isn’t eating with us?"
You poke his cheek. "He's probably on in the middle of a rewatch."
Your best friend hums. "Okay. But you got enough to leave him some leftovers, right?"
You turn him around, laughing at the way he lets himself be manhandled and even helps you along a little bit.
"I did. I'll make him up a plate too. He can eat in his room. Now, go put your stuff down I'm hungry."
He skips off at your assurance. Jihoon opens his bedroom door the minute the sound of Soonyoung's footsteps disappear into his own room. You just blink.
"You're not making me anything."
You raise a brow. Jihoon can be direct but he isn’t usually rude. Just a man of few words. You wait while he shuffles over, surprised when he hands you a plate as he gets one for himself.
"You shouldn't feel like you have to cater to me."
You blink and he sighs.
"You're not my mother y/n, you don't have to serve me."
Oh, so it's an equality thing.
"Lee Jihoon, are you trying to be respectful by telling me you're a grown man who is capable of serving himself his own dinner?"
He shrugs. "I'm not trying, I'm doing it."
You just shake your head and smile, moving to hand him your plate when he reaches for it. You watch as he serves all your favourites in just the right quantities, even going so far as to separate certain foods because he knows you don't like them touching. He narrows his eyes at you when he hands the plate back and catches you watching him.
"What's with the staring?"
"I'm just surprised."
He moves past you to pour a glass of juice. You accept it with a soft thank you.
"Surprised?"
"You remember what I like."
He goes to get cutlery, handing you some as he adds his own to his plate.
"I notice things."
You laugh softly and sip your juice. "Yeah, but usually about Soonie."
He sighs. "y/n, you basically live here. I'm not blind. Thank you for dinner."
He slips away without further explanation and you have to admit you do spend a lot of time in their space. You've been friends with Soonyoung for as long as they've lived together but he has plenty of friends. You're still trying to wrap your head around why he would pay that much attention to you of all the people that come by their space often when Soonyoung reappears. He slides into your space, head peeking over your shoulder just as you finish plating up his favourite dishes.
"You're thinking so loud I could hear it all the way down the hall."
You push his face away, palm against his cheek, and he nips at your fingers playfully but moves back a little.
"Did Jihoon get replaced by an alien?"
"Not that I've noticed. Why?"
You shrug. "He's been weirdly considerate lately."
Soonyoung just blinks at you. "That's just Jihoon. He does nice things for everyone all the time."
You roll your eyes and hand the plate over. "Sure, but he's usually grumpier about it."
Soonyoung shrugs. "He's probably just in a good mood."
You decide to take his word for it, getting your plate and moving to follow him over to the small dining table tucked into the corner. Your glasses are already there, on coasters per Jihoon's house rules. You nearly drop the entire thing when Soonyoung speaks again.
"Or maybe he's finally decided to do something about his massive crush on you."
"His what?"
Soonyoung sets his plate down and reaches over for yours without even turning around. He doesn't seem to notice the way you've all but frozen in place.
"Have I not mentioned he likes you?"
"No you have not."
"Oh, well it's not like that's new."
You step forward, finger poking at Soonyoung's chest. "Elaborate."
He blinks when he turns and notices your expression. "Was this news to you?"
You nod.
"Okay, so it turns out you're oblivious. Good to know."
"Kwon Soonyoung."
He just grins. "Jihoon's written like ten songs about your smile. He's been all gooey and annoyed about it since I first introduced you."
"He so asked you not to tell me that."
"He threatened me actually."
He doesn’t look the least bit sorry about spilling Jihoon's secret.
"You are so dead tomorrow."
"No," Soonyoung nods for you to sit and takes his own chair. "I would be a dead man if you didn't find him charming but you think Jihoon is neat."
You sit. "I think Jihoon is a nice person." You correct. "Who has manners."
Soonyoung waves his hand. "Same thing. You've called him your favourite on at least two different occasions."
You roll your eyes. Soonyoung inhales a bite of food, humming happily, and you lean back in your chair to see where this is going.
"Jihoon respects my personal space."
"You like my koala behaviour, don't even pretend it bothers you."
You sigh. "I overlook your koala behaviour because I love you. Who knows why."
Soonyoung takes a long drink. "I'm cute and charming."
You laugh. "Unfortunately."
"Anyway, point being you think Jihoon is a good guy and you'd be open to seeing where things go if he got the guts to ask you out."
You consider that statement and you have to admit you can't say Soonyoung has read you wrong.
"I wouldn't say no." You agree.
He nods. "So there's no reason to kill me because I'm not making anything messy. I'm just speeding up the process."
"I'm going to ignore this information."
Soonyoung sighs. "Why are you both so boring?" He's almost whining and you have to force back the smile at his antics.
"Because if Jihoon wanted me to know he would tell me himself, and I don't want to overstep. So I'll let him take his time."
"For the record, I'm going to bring this up when it takes you two a year to actually go on a date."
You add an extra piece of chicken to his plate. "Noted. I'm still respecting Jihoon's choice. So, are we going to finish embroidering your jeans tonight or did you want to do that tomorrow?"
"Can we do that later? I want to finish that drama you were watching the other day first."
"Sure, I'm here all night."
"You know if you and Jihoon were dating we could have more sleepovers."
"Have you considered that I would not be sleeping in your bed?"
"I take it back, don't date Jihoon he's not stealing all my cuddling time."
"I can't make any promises."
"Rude."
"I will make time for your emotional support cuddles whether I end up dating anyone or not."
"I can live with that. Maybe."
"Take it or leave it."
"Second place in your life it is."
"Oh stop being dramatic you know I love you."
"Only because I'm cute."
"Mostly that yes."
"I'm writing this down in my diary."
"With your sparkly pink gel pen?"
"It’s black actually. Some best friend you are, you don't even remember my favourite colours."
"How do I always end up in the doghouse? You're the one meddling!"
Hello! How are you? May i request a monsta x's Kihyun story, whatever plot you want is fine ♡
Thank u ~
ooh yes ofc! monsta x are always a fun little challenge to write. thank you for the req! 😄 it's a little short but let me know how you like this one and maybe I'll get back to writing more monek. as we can tell I am a big fan of domestic Kihyun.
Yoo Kihyun x Reader - domestic fluff, brief mention of Changkyun's enlistment + other members, soft sleepy time.
It's already dark when you come in the door, keys dropped into the bowl on the side table, and wiggle out of your office shoes. Immediately your feet thank you. The soft sound of music drifts through the apartment and you can hear your boyfriend singing along in the kitchen. It brings a smile to your lips as you make your way to the bedroom to drop your things and change, listening the whole way. He has some oldies jazz station playing it sounds like, and not a care in the world for what the neighbours might think. That's Kihyun.
You're careful to put your dirty clothes into the hamper and not disrupt the tidy flow of the room as you take off your makeup, leaving the day behind as you peel off the layers of work and stress and everything that doesn't get to come home with you through a short face cleansing ritual. Next comes skincare. You're not tied to an elaborate routine tonight but a little moisturizer and a short scalp massage as you let your hair down never hurt anyone. You snag one of Kihyun's hoodies from where it lays draped across the back of the reading chair in the corner on your way back out of the bedroom. Nothing washes away a long day quite like the sight of your boyfriend in the kitchen.
He stands in front of the stove, apron tied haphazardly around his waist, using the wooden spoon as a microphone between stirring something and checking on what appears to be noodles in the pot on the burner beside him. You don’t bother trying to be quiet as you step into his space, leaning back against the island and just watching the scene in front of you. He always manages to make the smallest tasks look so domestic.
"Welcome home honey."
He doesn’t even turn around. It stopped surprising you about two months into the relationship that he senses everything. He manages the chaotic foursome of Hyungwon, Minhyuk, Jooheon and Changkyun on a regular basis. He's learned a few things. They can be a handful so you understand why he's become so perceptive.
"Thank you handsome."
He hums softly and reaches over to turn the music down without even missing a beat.
"How was work?"
"Exhausting, but it’s only Tuesday so I'll manage."
He turns then, flicking the burners off and holding one arm out for a hug. You step forward, slipping easily into his embrace. He presses a soft kiss to the crown of your head and you smile against the orange sweater he has rolled up to the elbows, stepping back to take him in.
"Why are you home early? I thought you guys had a recording session today."
He nods. "We did. None of the takes were giving what Hyungwon wanted and he couldn't explain why. Min was so frustrated we took a break before he and Honey got into it. They're back to fighting this week more than they aren't."
You squeeze his shoulder lightly. That explains the cooking. The soft music. The low lights and trying to center himself again.
"They'll sort it out."
He nods. "They always do. It's just different right now. Everyone misses Kyun. We're still adjusting."
You nudge his shoulder with yours. "And your solution was to make enough jjamppong for ten people?"
The smile on your face matches your teasing tone. He plays along, scowling just a little.
"I was testing out a new combination."
You glance down at the ingredients laid out on the cutting board and soften slightly. Kihyun settles in behind you as you take over the stirring, handing over the spoon without a word.
"He would have liked this one. You'll have to share the recipe with the others, or bring some when you go see him next."
He just hums softly and slips his arms around your waist, leaning in to rest his chin against the top of your head.
"Maybe. I haven't perfected it yet."
"Ki, baby you know they'll eat anything you feed them."
"I know. But I want it to be just right for them."
You just take one hand in your free one and press a kiss to his wrist.
"Do we have time for a dance before the noodles are ready?"
He considers it, checking the timer he set on his phone. "We have time for one."
You smile softly and set the spoon aside, letting it sit in its holder while you turn to face your boyfriend.
"Just one then."
When you finish twirling around the kitchen you're both laughing and the radio has moved onto announcing the scores for the baseball game still ongoing at Jamsil stadium. Neither of you are listening as you step aside to grab bowls while Kihyun drains the noodles and checks on the other ingredients. The silence that settles over you both as you sit down to eat is comfortable and his shoulders are just a little less tight when he joins you back at the kitchen sink to wash up afterwards. He doesn't say anything but his smile is soft as his shoulder bumps yours and the way he lets you slip your arms around his waist as he folds the tea towel over one shoulder when you finish up says everything he doesn't. You stay like that for a few minutes, cheek pressed to his chest and his arms looped around you just holding you close as you both decompress.
He breaks first, stepping back with a kiss to your temple. "Time to catch up on the next episode?"
You laugh softly but nod. For all that he pretends you're the one insisting on watching this drama together, he's really the one who's most invested in finding out how it ends.
"Mm, maybe we can even fit in two episodes tonight if you don't have an early morning tomorrow."
He checks his watch. "Two it is."
That's all it takes to end up curled into his side on the sofa, cup of tea in hand, forgetting all about the long day you've had with your favourite person putting down the weight he's carried this day right beside you and smiling right back even as he argues over plot points and theories with you.
It comes out as a whisper, almost like he isn’t quite sure he has the right to ask this of you. He sounds wrecked, broken, and the pleading eyes make a strong case.
"Please."
It's the desperation in the second word that gets you. The way his voice cracks in the middle makes you press your heart to your chest like you can feel it doing the same. Like if you hold yourself a little tighter you can keep all the pieces together long enough to stick back the way they used to fit.
"Cheol."
You barely manage to choke out his name. His hand twitches like he wants to reach for you but catches himself at the last minute.
"I shouldn't."
Every time you stay, it makes leaving harder. Makes waking up to the light of day and knowing that none of this matters past sunrise too heavy. Too hard. Makes it all too real. Seungcheol is a dream you were never supposed to have. A nightmare you can't seem to wake up from.
"No." He agrees.
He doesn’t move from the doorway. He says you should leave but his eyes, they tell another story, even as he crosses his arms over his broad chest and leans back against the frame.
"But you want to."
You can’t refute that. You want nothing more than to give in. To stay, tonight and every other night that follows. You know you'll wake up and regret it tomorrow, but you still have to talk yourself into saying refusing him.
"Give me one good reason not to walk away."
He does reach for you then, hand finding yours and lifting it to his chest. He rests your palm over his heart and meets your gaze as you count the beats. His eyes are open, honest, and his heart is racing.
"Because I'm not ready to give you up."
You shake your head. "That isn't good enough."
"What do you want me to say y/n? That I love you? You already know that."
"Do I?" It's your turn to whisper, pulling your hand away and turning so he can't see the way you nearly break at those words. "I've been waiting three years to hear you say those words Cheol, and yet every morning I wake up to an empty bed and an even emptier heart. No calls. No texts. No messages. Every time I see you while the sun is out you act like it never happened. Like you don’t even know me."
You shake your head, shore up your courage, and let out a shaky breath.
"I'm done being someone you're ashamed of. Someone you only care about when no one is around to see it. I'm done only mattering when it’s convenient."
You take that first step away, and you think nothing has ever hurt more until you follow up with the next. Each one is worse, but also a little better than the last. It takes you nearly three blocks of following wherever your feet lead you to feel like you can breathe again. You stop then, pausing to look up. You can still spot his building in the distance. Still know just which light is his condo in the skyline. It feels like a blow.
You don’t turn back again. Just orient yourself and make your way towards the nearest subway station. You don’t look up again. You don’t need to. The ride home is quiet. For the first time in a long time you don’t have too many thoughts all fighting for volume. You breathe in the night air as you exit the station by your apartment and smile softly at the crescent moon looking down at you from the sky. The air tastes like a fresh start. The soft breeze feels like freedom.
It's time to move on, and tonight you're finally ready.
You’re not quite sure how you’ve become the assigned taste-tester but every time you show up at Doe & Bean for your morning coffee and Junhui is working, you get handed a little box with a sticky note taped to the top. At first it was a little funny, asking for your rating and often with a little note from Jun penned just for you. You like the guy and getting friendlier doesn’t bother you. But one day you come in to find Minghao working and there’s still a box for you. He raises a brow as he hands it over and you sigh.
“If I ask Jun to stop sneaking test pastries away for me, how offended is he going to be?”
That gets a smile out of the normally stoic barista. Minghao just shakes his head.
“Enough to sulk about it for a week and make it my problem, so please don’t. Besides, he’s not stealing them out from under Shua’s nose. The boss is the one who keeps pushing these little tester boxes on us to give you.”
That has you blinking in surprise. “Joshua is the one sending me these? Why doesn’t he just ask me for my opinions himself?”
Hao shrugs. “He’s usually in the back busy coordinating seven different batches of things and trying not to let Junhui give him premature grey hairs.”
That tracks. You just shake your head.
“Tell the boss I’ll come in on weekends to taste test for him if it’s really that helpful, but if you guys keep sending me to work with free pastries someone is going to get ideas. And I can’t keep accepting these without paying for them, experimental new combinations or not.”
Minghao doesn’t say anything but the look in his eyes softens just a fraction and he nods. “I’ll pass that along.”
“Thank you, I’ll tell him myself if he gives you any trouble about it when I’m not on my way to the office.”
Minghao just rings you up and lets you insist on paying at least half the cost of the mystery pastry in today’s box. You walk out feeling a little conflicted and more than a little confused, but somehow the warmth in your chest that’s been present since your first visit to the café doesn’t seem to have waned at all despite this.
It’s not until two days later that you find out Minghao championed your wishes with a fervor you hadn’t anticipated. When you pop in after work Joshua is working the counter and the smile he offers you is sheepish.
“I’m sorry for forcing all those boxes on you.”
You shake your head. “You don’t have to apologize, it wasn’t a bother. I just felt like I was taking advantage. I mean, I barely know any of you.”
Joshua looks confused. “Oh, is that what the problem is? Hao did not explain that.”
You laugh softly. “What exactly did he tell you?”
He scratches the back of his neck. “He didn’t tell so much as he berated. I got a scolding and Jun… well… Jun got on Hao’s last nerve but what else is new. I swear those two like fighting with each other, it’s fun for them or something.”
You nod. “I can see that.” You have no issues picturing Junhui smiling while Minghao lectures him.
“So, you got the third degree? I didn’t ask him to do that.”
“You didn’t have to. Hao… lets just say you’re a good customer and he values those. He’s big on people who don’t come in and test his patience or interrupt his peace. You keep Jun occupied and don’t complain about stupid stuff so… you’re in Hao’s good books so far.”
“Huh, why does that feel like an odd sort of accomplishment?”
Joshua laughs, folding the towel he’s been using to wipe down the counter over one shoulder. “It is, in a way.”
He wears the same soft pink apron as the last few times you’ve seen him and somehow it suits him. You look around but the space is pretty empty today, a few lingering regulars busy working on their own things and no one waiting in line behind you yet.
“I appreciate that you trust me enough to value my feedback, I just…I don’t feel close enough that such special treatment felt fair. I haven’t earned that.”
Joshua considers this. “Yet.”
You bite your lip, and decide that’s an acceptable adjustment. “Yet.” You agree.
You have no plans to stop coming by and that means probably getting closer with Jun at least, if not the rest of the staff. That doesn’t automatically mean you’ll end up being friends or that everyone will like you, but you do like the two main baristas and you wouldn’t be upset at developing a friendship with either of them or their boss.
“Can we pull it back and slow down a little? I like you guys, and I would like to keep talking when I come in and eventually maybe be friends, I just… didn’t expect Jun to get comfortable to quickly or to drag you into that.”
Joshua nods, smile soft. “I know he can be a lot, but he does mean well.”
“I know.”
Junhui has been nothing but friendly, kind, compassionate and funny so far. You believe he doesn’t have any ill intentions. You’re not uncomfortable exactly, it’s been kind of nice but it’s also hard to tell if it’s just his customer service personality. You never want to assume so you’ve been friendly back but you have to take every interaction with a grain of salt. It’s always been polite and that’s great, you’re happy if it is more than just a customer/employee relationship Jun is building, but you need to be sure before you get caught up and let either of you get too comfortable without defining that. As silly as it sounds. This is his job, his workplace, and you never want to make him uncomfortable by getting too close or assuming if he’s just trying to keep things professionally friendly.
“I appreciate it.”
“But?” Joshua leans back against the counter behind him.
“But, I don’t want to overstep. You guys work here and I don’t want to get… parasocial I guess?”
He smiles. “I appreciate that, and the honesty, but I can promise you the friendliness isn’t just an act to charm you into coming back. Jun does that without realizing sometimes, that I can admit, but I think he genuinely enjoys just chatting with you. You always go along with his bits and I think he likes that you don’t treat him like that weird silly employee.”
“He is weird and silly but it’s kind of endearing.”
Joshua chuckles, nodding and stepping forward again. “Let me grab you your usual, and if you’re comfortable with still being our taste tester maybe you can come by Saturday and we can talk about setting some boundaries or signing you on part time or something?”
You consider that. “Yeah, yeah I’d like that. Thank you.”
Doe & Bean Cont. - pastry chef shua x reader. barista jun has no sense of personal boundaries and adopts anyone he decides is worth befriending. this is entirely crack so far. i can't promise that will not continue.
The next time you pop into the café you find Minghao at the register again, this time with a stressed looking Joshua running around behind the counter. The barista looks cool and composed as ever while his boss's smile is so strained you don't know how he's still holding his polite little greetings to every guest together. It's busier than you think you've seen the place yet. Minghao looks perfect but Joshua's apron hangs at an angle and he sports streaks of flour across one cheek. When you make it up to the front of the line it's finally slowed a little. Jun slides behind the counter to join the chaos just as your turn to order arrives and he swaps places with Minghao, smiling widely as he recognizes you.
“So, how did the house special work out for you?”
You smile back, shaking your head. “It was perfect.”
Jun nods. “I knew you could handle it. What can I get for you today?”
You consider for a second. “Can I get a Jun special?”
He glances over his shoulder. Minghao is working efficiently, getting through drinks with practiced efficiency. He shoos Joshua into the back after the flustered man gets in his way for the third time and Jun nods.
“Only if you promise not to tell Shua hyung.”
You grin and hold out a pinky. “Promise.”
It turns out the Jun special is a little lighter on the coffee than you expected, which works out perfectly today. The crowd dies down as you sit at a corner table and get through some of the latest book you picked up but haven't had a chance to really get into this week. By the time you look up again the sun sits lower on the horizon and Jun has made his way over to clean up the table next to yours.
“Oh, you're with us again.”
You can’t help the smile as he startles a little when he notices you've closed your book.
“Mm, it looks like the rush ended.”
He nods. “About twenty minutes ago.”
You look around. There are a few people settled into tables or seated by the window, and a customer or two milling about the counter but it's much calmer than it was when you first walked in.
“Is it always like this?”
Jun shrugs. “At this hour, usually. You tend to stop by before we get busy.”
You nod, that makes sense. Your work hours often have you arriving between the early risers and the 9am rush. Not that you've been here that often, yet, but you have a feeling you're going to become a regular. The coffee is good, the baked goods are great, and the staff keep you entertained even on tough mornings.
“Do you always work the morning shift?”
He shakes his head. “I work most mornings but sometimes Hao covers if I'm busy or he likes certain weekdays. Something about it being peaceful being awake before the sun while everyone is still sleeping.”
Your smile grows at his admission. “Is Minghao not exactly a people person then? He seems friendly enough.”
Jun grins and shakes his head. “Hao… loves what he does and he reciprocates how you treat him but he doesn't put up with bullshit customers and he has no patience for people who can't use their critical thinking.”
“So, in other words, he hates stupid questions and entitlement.”
Jun nods. “You could say that.”
You consider this. “And Joshua? He seems nice but a lot more easily frazzled than the two of you.”
Jun laughs. “Shua hyung, he’s too nice for his own good. Not always, don’t get me wrong, he can be as politely rude as Hao when he needs to but he’s generally a sweetheart unless you start something first. He opened this place because he loves to bake, so he's usually in the back and he's great with people so the customers love him but he's not exactly used to the rush.”
You nod. “Uh huh, so he makes all the tasty treats you sell?”
Jun moves to lean one hip against the side of your table. “Yup, bakes them fresh daily.”
“And his charm is the only reason he's popular with the customers?” You raise a brow at this.
Jun just grins. “It’s part of the appeal. He's popular with customers for the same reasons people keep coming in for a five second interaction with Hao even when they're brushed off and he forgets their names.”
You laugh, glancing over to where Minghao is finishing up an order for two elderly ladies who are absolutely cooing over him. It's easy to see why. He's patient with them, his smile easy today and even with his hair pulled back into a ponytail he's gorgeous. You turn back to Jun.
“What would you recommend today?”
He blinks at you. “Well, no more coffee for starters, but if you want to get something to eat probably the strawberry tart. Shua's been testing it for weeks and we can't seem to figure out exactly what it's missing but maybe you could help?”
You nod, slipping the book back into your bag. “I would be happy to. Do you always taste test new creations before they go out to customers?”
He nods, stepping back so you can stand. “Shua's a little bit of a perfectionist.”
You smile softly. “That… feels like it makes sense from the little that I know about him.”
Jun just takes your hand and steers you back behind the counter. “Trust me, you'll get it in a minute.”
Minghao blinks at you as Jun drags you past him towards a door to the kitchen but doesn’t say a word. He just lifts one perfect eyebrow and when Junhui grins in response he sighs but moves aside to let you both through.
“What was that about?”
“Oh don't worry about him, he's just dramatic.”
You're not worried but you are a little wary. You really shouldn't be back here and despite how friendly he seems, you don't know Junhui well enough yet to call him a friend. Or to have earned friend privileges.
“Are you sure this is okay?”
“Trust me y/n.”
You probably shouldn't but he hasn't led you astray yet, so you take the chance. Joshua looks up at you both in surprise as Jun leads you towards the kitchen and back rooms. He steps around a rack full of cooling trays of croissants and a variety of other pastries you can’t identify from here.
“Jun, what is she doing back here?”
It's a reasonable question. You both turn to look at the taller man. He just blinks.
“I told her you needed another opinion on the strawberry tarts.”
Joshua looks between you both, flour still streaked across one cheek, and sighs. “That's true, but you could have asked me to make another batch and brought one out there for her to try once they had cooled.”
You don’t want to get caught in the middle so before Jun can say something that gets you both into more trouble, you step in.
“I'm sorry, I can get out of your way. I didn’t realize I was intruding. Jun said it would be okay but I should have checked with you first.”
You offer an apologetic smile and start to back away, moving to head out through the same hallway you had entered from, when Joshua’s voice stops you. You don’t have to turn to see the exasperation on his face, his sigh says everything his words don't, but you do catch the thumbs up Jun flashes you from behind his back out of the corner of your eye.
“No, no it's not your fault. My meddling employees just refuse to be told how to do absolutely anything.”
The look he flashes Jun is disapproving but somehow still a little fond. The barista just smiles back and eventually, after a very emphatic eyeroll, pats him on the back.
“You already have a batch cooling, don't you hyung?”
Joshua narrows his eyes and squeezes Jun's shoulder. “Luckily for you, yes. Please take her over to the break room and I'll bring one over.”
You blink and Jun takes your arm gently. “Come on, I'll show you to our world renowned tasting room.”
His serious attitude makes you laugh. You flash him a smile and turn to look at Joshua over your shoulder.
“Thank you. And sorry again for interrupting.”
He just shakes his head but there's a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
“Don’t worry about it, but maybe don't trust Junhui again.”
You nod solemnly. “I'm learning he's absolutely full of terrible ideas.”
Joshua does smile then. “Oh always. Just ask Minghao.”
Jun huffs. “Hey! I'm right here. Not all of my ideas are bad.”
“Sorry, he's full of many bad ideas and a few okay ones. Every once in a blue moon we get one brilliant one but I can't guarantee even those won't come paired with something crazy.”
Jun rolls his eyes and tugs you forward. “Okay. I take it back. Ignore him.”
You're laughing as you follow a sulking Junhui to the break room.
It’s tension that sits between you like a live wire — humming, dangerous, unavoidable.
You and Changkyun have been circling each other for months. Almost touching. Almost saying it. Almost crossing that line.
But you’re scared.
And he’s tired.
Tonight, it finally breaks.
You’re in his studio again — the same place this always seems to happen. The lights are low, the air thick with the faint scent of coffee and something darker that’s just him. He’s leaning back against the desk, watching you with that unreadable expression he hides behind when he feels too much.
“You’re quiet,” he says.
“So are you.”
“That’s because I’m thinking.”
You try to laugh it off. “That sounds ominous.”
“It is.”
Your stomach flips.
You shift your weight, pretending to look at something on the screen. You can feel his eyes on you — heavy, searching. You know what he wants. You know what you want.
But wanting is terrifying.
“I don’t get you,” he says finally.
Your heart stutters. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He pushes off the desk and steps closer. Not enough to touch. Just enough to make it impossible to ignore.
“You look at me like you want something,” he says quietly. “Like you’re about to say something. And then you don’t.”
You swallow.
“That’s not—”
“It feels like you’re playing with me.”
“I’m not playing,” you say quickly.
“Then what is this?” His voice tightens. “Because I’m starting to feel stupid.”
You shake your head. “You’re not.”
“Then why do you pull away every time it gets close to being something?”
Because if it’s something, you can lose it.
Because if it’s something, you can get hurt.
Because you’ve done this before and it didn’t end well.
But you don’t say any of that.
He steps even closer now. Close enough that your breath mixes. Close enough that your pulse betrays you.
“Do you want me to beg?” he asks suddenly, frustration threading through the words. “Is that what this is?”
Your eyes widen.
He laughs once, bitter and self-aware. “Because I will. If that’s what you’re waiting for.”
“I’m not waiting for you to beg,” you whisper.
“Then what are you waiting for?”
You look at him — really look at him. The tension in his jaw. The way his hands flex like he’s physically restraining himself from reaching for you.
“I’m scared,” you admit.
The anger in his expression falters.
“Of me?”
“No,” you say immediately. “Of this.”
Silence stretches between you.
He searches your face, like he’s trying to decide whether to believe you.
“You’re not playing with me?” he asks, softer now. Vulnerable in a way he hates being.
“No.”
Something shifts in him.
He steps into you this time, and your back nearly brushes the desk. His hand lifts — slow, deliberate — hovering at your waist like he’s still giving you time to stop this.
“Then don’t make me beg,” he whispers.
Your fingers curl into the front of his shirt before you can overthink it.
“I won’t.”
That’s all it takes.
His hand slides to your waist, firm now, grounding. He leans down and the kiss isn’t rushed — it’s not desperate — but it’s everything you’ve been holding back.
Careful at first.
Then sure.
His other hand comes up to cradle the side of your face like he’s afraid you might disappear if he doesn’t hold on. Your hands grip his shirt tighter, anchoring yourself to him.
When you pull back, it’s only because breathing becomes necessary.
His forehead rests against yours. His thumb brushes lightly over your hip, like he’s confirming you’re still here.
“I don’t do halfway,” he murmurs.
“I know.”
His lips ghost over yours again, softer this time.
“Good,” he says quietly. “Because I’m not letting you run anymore.”
And for the first time in months, you don’t try to.

i will format these at some point. that time is not today. anyway. enjoy.
Trusting your new favourite barista, Minghao you learned this morning, was the best choice you’ve made all week. The pastries he provided were such a big hit at your morning meeting that your cubicle neighbour from HR asked for the business’ details so they could add the bakery to their regular roster of vendors for company events. Luckily you may have grabbed a business card or three on your way out the door earlier. It gets your day off to such a good start that you find yourself setting your alarm ten minutes earlier the next day to make sure you have time to stop by for a coffee.
This time you run into a new lanky barista. Also slightly cat-like but this one is taller, and all chaotic sunshine to yesterday’s quiet calm. His voice is also soft and his smile even more welcoming, eyes bright as he greets you when you walk in, but he’s bouncing around behind the counter like he’s already had a quad shot of espresso and humming to himself happily. You blink and when he turns back around to take your order you make note of the equally opposite aesthetic from Minghao’s. Where you were expecting dark and understated, this man wears light colours and has a whole pastel aesthetic going on.
Hair a soft brown that turns blonde where long bangs sweep over his face, a white t-shirt and lightwash jeans paired with a pale blue cardigan that somehow manages to be oversized even on his long frame. You have to look up to meet his eyes and when he notices, he leans down to meet your eye level without blinking.
“What can I get for you this morning?”
You smile softly. “I would love whatever you’re on.”
He just sighs, shaking his head. “I can’t make you that. Secret recipe I’m afraid. The boss would ask too many questions about whether putting that much redbull in the coffee is legal.”
Your lips twitch and you’re not sure how he manages to keep a straight face.
“Now you have me curious.”
His expression is solemn. “I don’t think we’re allowed to sell battery acid.”
You glance around and nod. “Doesn’t seem like you have the right license for that kind of liquid.”
His eyes twinkle with mischief at you playing along. You don’t know how you find it in yourself. You’re exhausted and still half asleep but the conspiratorial smile he flashes you is worth it.
“I can get you a house special though, if you need enough caffeine to take out an elephant and you don’t mind a little creativity. Just don’t tell the boss.”
You nod and take the pinky he holds out waiting for your promise.
“Don’t tell me what?”
You both turn as a shorter man strolls up and swings an arm around the barista’s shoulder. This one makes the double denim look work in a way that makes you mad he’s so effortlessly pretty this early on a Wednesday.
“Where all the white monsters disappear to.”
The newcomer sighs at this admission and turns to you with a slightly concerned expression. “Let me guess, Junnie’s trying to sell you on one of his new creations?”
You shrug. “That depends, does the house special count as a science experiment?”
The man blinks, turning back to his barista. “We have a house special?”
“You left Hao in charge while you went on vacation for two weeks. He took being deputy manager very seriously.”
“Of course he did. Okay,” Mister boss man blinks at you. “Are you sure you can handle enough caffeine to fuel a dinosaur?”
You consider that. “I’m going to err on the side of yes.”
The barista gives you his best innocent face. “Shua hyung, please let the nice pretty lady make her own grownup decisions. She knows what she’s doing.”
You play along, sure that you’re going to get exactly the motivation you need to make it through the day of meetings and site visits you have planned.
Shua just sighs and throws his hands in the air. “Don’t leave me a bad review when you can’t stop vibrating for three days.”
You lock eyes with the barista, whose name tag you have now noticed reads Junhui, and nod. “Perfect. If you can find a way to put some vanilla syrup in it I’ll rate you five stars on every platform.”
He grins. “Can I recommend a pastry to go with your morning bean juice?”
You tilt your head, considering. “Do you have any of those fabulous blueberry cream cheese danishes today?”
He nods. “We do.”
“I’ll take two. Minghao was a very bad influence yesterday.”
Jun’s grin widens. “You met Hao? And you came back? Yup, house special with extra pep just for you.”
You just shake your head and smile as he skips away to get something started. Shua turns to you and holds out a hand.
“I’d apologize for him, but unfortunately it seems like you’re already fond.”
You just laugh and take the hand he offers, letting him shake on it. “What can I say, he’s made my week a little more interesting.”
“Well, thank you. I’m Joshua, that’s Jun and it seems you’ve already met our Hao. Please do come back, and if they give you any trouble let me know.”
You smile as he steps back to grab your pastries while Jun sings softly as he swirls a cup next to the espresso machine.
“I’ll definitely be back. You guys are like ten minutes down the street and very conveniently between me and the office.”
Joshua smiles back and it’s blinding. “I’m glad to hear they haven’t scared you away.”
“Not yet.”
This time as his hand brushes yours while handing over the paper bag, you feel a jolt of electric current along your skin. It’s like you’ve shocked yourself and you shake it off until you glance up and find Joshua’s eyes locked on yours and wide with surprise. He opens his mouth to say something else but just then Jun saunters up with a large drink and a grin so wide you don’t know how it doesn’t split his handsome face in half.
“House special for my favourite customer.”
“I’m your only customer.”
“So far.”
You forget all about the tingle in your fingers as he rings you up with more banter and sends you off with a wave.
If you can guess who our emo barista is maybe I'll drop part 2 tomorrow.
It doesn’t take you much convincing to end up in the bakery. You were finally running early for work, for what felt like the first time in weeks, and the window display had pulled you in. You’ve spent every day since it first opened walking past the building every morning, admiring how cute the new owners had made the place and how good everything looked, but not having the time to pop in and find out for yourself. This morning you want to try everything. That might be a little too much just for yourself but you do have a meeting this morning, so maybe it wouldn’t hurt to get a variety for sharing. You find yourself drifting up towards the counter, and the lanky barista blinks at you like he wasn’t expecting anyone even though he’s been bustling about behind the counter preparing several different teas and types of coffee since you first walked in.
“Good morning.”
His soft voice and welcoming smile have you believing that today really is going to go well. You hope it does because boy do you need it right now.
“Morning.”
He stretches a little like a cat as he leans in while you scan the menu but his eyes are watching. You can tell this man doesn’t put up with nonsense. He seems to be trying to pin down what kind of customer you’re going to be.
“Could I get a variety box of whatever pastries are good?”
You really can’t decide. It all looks amazing and you don’t have enough time to press your face to the glass display case and stare at them all up close to make a proper selection. The barista probably wouldn’t appreciate it very much either, he doesn’t seem like someone who would like you smudging the surfaces and making a mess. You can respect that.
“They’re all good.” His tone doesn’t change, but one eyebrow raises slightly like he’s daring you to contradict him.
You find yourself smiling back at the way he doesn’t hesitate. Doesn’t elaborate. Just makes it a statement and leaves the asking of any questions to get further information to you. He’s testing you out. It’s a little entertaining. It feels like a friendly game of back and forth. You’re not awake enough to be much of an opponent this morning but you make note. The dark haired man has a sense of humour, and you might actually like the staff here just as much as you’re starting to like the space.
He clears his throat and you blink back into the present moment. Right. Variety pack. You take another look at the pastry case beside him as he leans back, arms crossing over his dark blue apron as he waits for you to make your choice. He isn’t rushing you, not that there’s anyone else waiting behind you to hurry you along for, just watching.
He might just be trying to sell you on things because he works here but you trust this man’s honesty for reasons you can’t explain even to yourself. You think that he seems the type to tell you how it is and if something sucked, he wouldn’t hesitate to not only not recommend it but to actively tell you explicitly to avoid it. Something about the way his eyes track your every movement and the corner of his lips twitch upwards in the slightest show of amusement has you trusting his judgement. You really hope you don’t regret it but something about his whole look just makes you believe he has taste. You’re not sure if it’s the way he pairs the three different shades of dark clothing he’s wearing, or how he layers the different cuts and fabrics, or maybe it’s just the chipped black nail polish he does nothing to hide as his fingers tap against one forearm where he stands.
He isn’t even doing anything revolutionary. He’s wearing a uniform. Black baseball cap, navy t-shirt, black jeans with a little matching chain dangling in front of one pocket. It’s all designed not to take attention away from the shop’s logo stitched across his apron, the way a model is a hanger to show off the clothing they’re selling he’s just a vessel to market the business. And yet, somehow he’s made the simple outfit his own. It takes on a unique style with some help from his chain necklace and the shaggy dark hair that frames a face you wouldn’t be surprised to see on a magazine. He makes it look chic and effortless and the way his hair shows tints of blue in the light coming through the windows just seems to tie it all together.
The way he looks at his fingers, like he doesn’t much care what your decision ends up being it’s going to get judged anyways, you decide that for some unfathomable reason you kind of like him. Something about him not being overly peppy and caffeinated this early, and not afraid to speak to you straight even while putting on his customer service persona sits right with you. You decide to go out on a limb.
“What would you recommend then? Something tells me you know best.”
The smirk he’s quick to hide tells you it was the right choice.
“You would be right.”
You laugh. “Okay then mister pastry expert, can I get two dozen of the barista’s assorted favourites?”
He shakes his head, eyes rolling, but there’s a smile on his face as he moves to grab a box.“To go?”
the wedding - hwiyoung x reader arranged marriage au
finally getting around to the ending. thank you to everyone who pushed me to flesh this one out into this whole series. i hope you've enjoyed.
One thing about Kim Youngkyun is that he's always going to take your breath away. You've already seen him all dressed up in his suit and tie, hair styled, and yet that moment when you step into the aisle of the church and lock eyes with him feels like the first time you're seeing him today. He smiles so wide you don't know how it doesn't hurt and it flashes you back to every time you've seen each other of the last many months. How he's always looked at you warmly, and how his smile grew fonder over time, but still none of those moments felt quite like this.
Your father's arm keeps you steady as he leads you down the aisle, his presence at your side the only thing keeping you from tripping in your heels as you keep pace with his even strides. The pride on his face as you reach the front and he turns to hug you before handing you over to your husband-to-be almost has you crying. Almost.
"I asked you once if you were sure about this wedding y/n," Your father shakes his head softly as he pulls back, head resting against yours for just a second. "the look on that boy's face, and on yours today, say that you were right when you told me yes."
You nod and your father pats Youngkyun's shoulder as he places your hands in his.
"Hi."
Youngkyun laughs. "Hey."
You reach up to brush a stray tear from his cheek. He leans into your touch, eyes sparkling as he watches you in a way you can't describe as anything other than pure adoration. It warms you inside.
"Are you ready to do this?"
You nod and let him lead you up the few steps onto the altar. You can see Youngbin behind Youngkyun, Inseong and Chani and Taeyang beside him. The pale blue of their suits is bright in the lighting up here and you finally lose it when your brother's eyes meet yours over Youngkyun's head. Inseong just nods and the smile he gives you says everything.
Youngkyun squeezes your hands as your eyes water. "Hey there beautiful girl, don't go crying on me just yet. We still have to get through the vows first."
It makes you laugh and lightens the mood just enough to let you blink away the tears. He gives you a moment and when you nod your okay, he turns to your officiant to let them know you’re ready to begin.
The ceremony feels like it flies by. Maybe because you spend most of it staring at Youngkyun and wondering how this moment can be real. How it can finally ve happening. When he slips the wedding band he picked out on your finger it's like the world slides back into place again and before you know it you're clasping hands, both now wearing double rings, and turning to see all your closest friends clapping for you. Their smiles make yours tug wider against your cheeks and then Youngkyun is leading you past the pews and out towards the bridal suite for a moment to yourselves while everyone relocates for the reception.
You blink as the door to the room closes behind you and then he’s there. Looming. So close you can feel the heat of him everywhere. Youngkyun leans his forehead against yours, eyes closing, and just breathes. You laugh softly.
"You okay there handsome?"
He hums an affirmative, hands resting lightly on your waist.
"Do you have any idea how stunning you look right now?"
You forgot that you had seen him but he hadn't seen you, not until you walked down that aisle with your dad and the final dress reveal happened. You reach up to brush your thumb over his cheekbone. He blinks at you, eyes fluttering open as he leans back just a little to take you in.
Your hair has been twisted and styled and pinned with so many pearls and little gems you're sure it must sparkle under the lights. It makes you feel like a princess. You don’t hate it. Youngkyun just leans in to steal another kiss. Slow and soft and full of all the love that has your heart feeling ready to burst at just the sight of him.
"You like the dress?"
He sighs softly. "I love the dress, but sweetheart you could wear a paper bag and I'd still think you were beautiful."
You just shake your head, smiling as he steps back and moves to unclip the veil where it sits folded back behind the little tiara Minju picked out for you. The sapphires in his engagement ring wink as he moves, matching the ones in the dainty little jewelry woven through your hair. Right on cue, as if you've summoned her with that thought, your sister-in-law peeks her head into the room.
"Everyone is making their way to the reception hall, we're ready for you two whenever you're finished gawking at each other."
Youngkyun huffs at his sister. "We're not gawking Min."
She opens her mouth to tease him, smiling at you, when Youngbin steps into the room around her.
"Min, Mom wants your help at the card table. Something about arranging the gifts?"
She nods and pats his shoulder. "I'll leave getting the happy couple to the reception room to you then."
Youngbin blinks at her sudden disappearance as Minju quickly walks away. You laugh softly and Youngkyun turns to his brother with a soft smile. You haven’t seen them so civil in years.
"Could you help me with this? It clips into her hair around the back, I don't want to ruin the style but I can't see to get the last few ones out."
Youngbin nods and the two of them make quick work of your veil. They don't have much time to bicker the way Youngkyun and Minju always do because your brother is the next unexpected guest and, to absolutely no one's surprise, it takes all three men to figure out how to remove the train from your dress so they can escort you to the reception.
By the time you walk in, hand in hand with your new husband, the mingling has already started and Mrs. Kim just shakes her head at the boys before shooing them off to meet important business partners while you and Youngkyun find your parents.
Mr. Kim is the first one to pull you into a hug and Youngkyun almost has to fight his own father for your time the way he swings his arm around your shoulders abd proudly shows off his new daughter-in-law to everyone who will let him boast about you.
You can't help laughing about it just a little and Youngkyun whines in your ear about it when Taeyang finally swoops in to save you with some help from Sanghyuk, trotting Mr. Kim away with questions about his latest business venture while your husband sweeps you away to greet his grandparents next. By the time you've made your rounds of the room you regret not vetoeing the heels despite how gorgeous they are. Your feet are beginning to ache and Youngkyun doesn't hesitate to make excuses to cut conversations short until he's pulled back your chair and made sure you kick them off under the table.
"Better?"
You nod. "So much."
He laughs softly. "I'll ask Chae to bring your slippers when she comes up to do her toast."
"You really planned for everything huh?"
He just smiles. "I like to think I know my wife pretty well."
You just shake your head and turn to the crowded room as everyone takes their seats. Youngkyun reaches for your hand and you lace your fingers together without thinking.
"You know me better than anyone else in this room, including myself sometimes."
His smile could light up the entire country the way he beams at you. You catch a glimpse of Youngbin over your husband's shoulder as you finally look away from that blinding smile and he holds up his champagne glass in a silent toast. For the first time since you stepped off that plane, you find yourself thankful for his cowardice. By running away, he opened the door to the future that led you here.
Youngkyun catches the way your gaze lingers and shakes his head as he turns to see what you're looking at. His brother just smiles back.
"You sure you married the right Kim? You two still do that weird telepathy thing you used to."
You laugh softly, "Feeling left out baby?" nudging Youngkyun's shoulder lightly. "I'm sure. It took me a little detour to find out but I'm more than sure."
His expression softens as he slips an arm around the back of your chair, leaning in to rest his forehead against yours. "Good, because you're stuck with me now y/n. 'Til death do us part and all that."
You just shake your head. "I made my choice gladly Kyun. I'd marry you all over again any day."
He only whines a little when Minju steps over to steal you away for the bouquet toss. And your words ring true. You're glad things worked out the way they did because every time you catch your husband's eye through the crowd, over your dad's shoulder as he spins you through the father daughter dance, or when you find yourself staring up at him as Youngkyun finds his way back to your side, your heart still manages to skip a beat. Or three. He's right. The wedding could have been two witnesses in an office at the courthouse and you would have been just as happy.
"Hey Kyun?"
"Hmm?"
"Thank you, for agreeing to this."
He just grins.
"Thank you for finally giving me a chance."
And just like that, you know you've found your happy ending. However your career goes, wherever that takes you, as long as Youngkyun stays by your side it will all have been worth the rude it took you both to get here tonight.
