who wouldâve thought? || h.h. x uma

warnings: descendants 3 spoilers, and an insane amount of fluff
âahhh!â uma screamed as yet another water balloon was thrown in her direction.
harry grinned, pleased that his balloon met his target. he reached behind him to grab another from his bucket when a balloon hit the tree he was hiding behind.
âoh, you are so dead.â he said to uma as she raced by.
it had been like this the past few weeks. harry and uma and all of the kids from the isle, really, being able to run free, make friends without worrying they need something in return, not having to look over their shoulder every second, and just be happy. ever since mal had broken down the barrier, the vks were living lives they never thought possible.
gil noticed the change in harry and uma before anyone else did. clearly, there was always something there between them. but on the isle, it was reverted to subtle lingering touches, holding each otherâs gaze just a little too long, silent conversations with just their eyes.
now it was like they were completely different people. when they first arrived and were in school, they barely said more than two words to each other. but gil noticed, and so did uma, the couples that would stroll through the halls together, laughing, talking, holding hands, like they didnât have a care in the world.
it was like a whole new experience for them. affection wasnât shown this way on the isle, especially not in public. but once it caught on that this was normal in auradon, the next week gil caught harry walking uma to her class, their hands intertwined.
it started like this, just little things. harry carrying umaâs books for a week when her locker was broken, the occasional kiss on the cheek when passing each other in the hall, sitting outside together during free period, harryâs head in umaâs lap as she ran a hand through his hair.
but as the weeks went on, the couple became more comfortable (and obnoxious, in gilâs opinion) in auradon. harry pressing uma against the lockers in between classes because i just couldnât help myself, gorgeous, pressing a firm kiss to her mouth. introducing each other as their boyfriend or girlfriend, the words still foreign on their tongues.
these days, it seemed as if a smile was permanently stamped on their faces. and as jay laid back with gil and audrey, watching the couple carry on with their water balloon fight, he turned to her.
âyou know this is all because of you, right?â jay questioned her, gesturing to the couple in question.
audrey smirked. âoh, absolutely. uma just about threatened my life after i asked harry to dance with me.â
jay laughed. ânothing like the magic of jealousy.â
âmore like the magic of audrey.â gil chimed in and audrey flipped her hair over her shoulder. âseriously, though. that made her so determined to make sure no other girl went after him. now look at them.â
all three heads turned to where harry had finally caught uma, arms wrapped around her waist. she leaned in, pressing a kiss to his lips and just like that, they were off in their own world.
jay and audrey turned back to each other and continued talking, but gil watched his two best friends just a moment longer.
never in his life had he seen them so happy, and theyâve known each other a very long time. auradon has been good for them, finally giving them the chance to be who they want to be.
yup, he thought as he settled back into his spot next to jay, nothing like the magic of audrey rose.
